THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is looking for a dynamic, energetic, team-oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to coordinate the library’s outreach and deliver innovative programs and services for children and families throughout the community. The position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II or Lead Librarian level, depending on the candidate’s experience. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

The current opening is based at the Downtown Library and will provide services and programs for youth at all three library locations and in the community. The position will require work during the day, evenings and weekends. The mission of the Redwood City Public Library is to cultivate community and advance equity by welcoming all people to experience the shared joys of literacy and learning. This position plays a key role in advancing that mission by fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging for the diverse youth and families in our community.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled gardening and turf maintenance duties in the development, maintenance and repair of landscaped areas; and related work as required.

Groundskeeper Gardener I is the entry-level class and Groundskeeper Gardener II is the journey-level class in the series. Incumbents in the Groundskeeper Gardener I class will progressively perform most of the duties required in the Groundskeeper Gardener series but are not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent direction and judgement on matters related to work procedures and
methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established pattern that has been explained before the work is started. Generally, changes in procedures or exceptions are explained in detail as they arise. Under the flexible staffing concept, Groundskeeper Gardener II positions that may become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Groundskeeper Gardener I or Utility Maintenance Worker level for training purposes.

Positions in the Groundskeeper Gardener II class are flexibly staffed and normally filled by advancement from the Groundskeeper Gardener I class, or when filled from the outside, require prior specific experience in gardening and general grounds maintenance. Appointment to this class requires the employee to be performing substantially the full range of gardening and general grounds maintenance duties and to meet the qualification standards for the class. This class requires the ability to work independently exercising
judgement and initiative. Duties will normally require the ability to operate the full range of mechanical equipment related to gardening and general grounds maintenance.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plant, cultivate, water, spray, and propagate plants, hedges, trees, flowers, and lawns and perform grounds maintenance work; operate hand and power machines; aids in keeping greenhouses and other structures in repair and free from plant diseases and pests; maintain equipment, tools, and supplies in proper condition and repair; do general laboring tasks related to grounds and garden maintenance work. Install, maintain, and
operate manual and automatic irrigation systems. Input and retrieve data and work orders from the computer system. May assist in supervising utility workers, temporary employees, court referrals and other subordinates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Approved methods of planting, propagating and caring for hedges, ornamental trees, shrubs, lawns, and flowers; gardening materials, tools and equipment, and their use and care; the common plant diseases and insect pests and the approved methods and materials used in controlling and destroying them.

Ability to: Safely use hand and power gardening tools and perform heavy physical labor; follow oral and written directions; follow and abide by the City's Rules and Regulations of the Classified Service. Learn to use the computer system. Maintain an appropriate public service demeanor and positive customer service interactions. Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Physical capability to: Perform sustained, strenuous manual labor; climb, lift, crawl, stoop and bend to reach work; may work outdoors in temperature extremes and inclement weather.

Experience:

• Groundskeeper Gardener I, entry level: one (1) year, full-time, paid experience in construction, maintenance or other semi-skilled, physical work.
• Groundskeeper Gardener II: two (2) years of full-time experience in gardening and general grounds maintenance work.

Education:

• Groundskeeper Gardener I, entry level: completion of the tenth grade. Graduation from high school or the equivalent is desirable and required to advance to Level II in the classification series.
• Groundskeeper Gardener II: A high school diploma or the equivalent.

License:

• Possession of a valid, Class C California Driver's License.
• Groundskeeper Gardener II: A current Qualified Applicator Certificate is desirable.

The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellow program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland Public Library is seeking a motivated and creative Library Fellow to lead a hands-on, project-based program for children in our makerspace, Square One. This fellowship provides an immersive opportunity to gain practical experience in program development, youth engagement, and community collaboration within a library setting.

The Fellow will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a part-time day camp program for elementary-aged students that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning. This includes evaluating existing curriculum, identifying areas for enhancement, and developing new project-based activities that align with educational best practices and the library’s mission.

Key responsibilities include:

• Program Development: Plan engaging, age-appropriate projects and activities for the makerspace, ensuring alignment with learning goals and safety guidelines.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

The Position:

Are you seeking a meaningful career serving youth in a diverse, multicultural community? Join our team and make a positive difference every day. The Community Services Coordinator is delegated lead responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating a program of activities or services within a specified program assignment, and, typically, for providing direct leadership in a portion of that assignment. This assignment may be a specifically defined programming area that is narrower in size or scope than those assigned to Supervisors or comprised of multiple delegated responsibilities. This position will coordinate programs and services for the Police Activities League (PAL). This position receives general supervision from higher-level recreation positions and may exercise functional and technical supervision over lower-level and part-time recreation personnel and volunteers.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a valid State of California driver’s license. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: Two years of responsible paid leadership experience in recreation or a related human services setting
• Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level courses in recreation or a related field.

The candidate should know the basic principles and methods of planning, coordinating, and leading recreation and human services programs and activities. They should understand simple arithmetic and how to handle recreation equipment and materials.  A candidate should have knowledge of general office procedures and an understanding of community groups, activities, programs, and facilities. They should understand the basic principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluations. Bilingual ability in Spanish is highly desirable. A bilingual pay differential is available for candidates fluent in identified languages. Availability is required between 20 and 40 hours per week, depending on the time of year. Availability is typically Monday through Friday; however, occasional weeknights and weekends will be required for PAL special events.

Job Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Instruct and lead specialized recreation and human services activities in such areas as sports, cultural arts, programs for the handicapped, senior citizens, crafts, teens and other areas of leadership requiring leadership in a structured environment.
• Provide activities and general facility supervision and control at a community recreation center or special use facility.
• Coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services in assigned program area. Perform a variety of office related functions including program registration, answering citizen inquiries both in person and on the telephone and maintaining routine records and reports as required.

The City of Redwood City is offering exciting opportunities to support local youth through after-school programs at various school sites. We're looking for enthusiastic and motivated Program Leaders to join our team!

In this role, you will support Program Leader II staff with the following:

• Academic and homework support
• Organizing and facilitating engaging enrichment and recreation activities
• Contributing to creating a positive, well-managed classroom environment

You'll work directly with the Program Leader II position, gaining hands-on experience in youth development and report to the Recreation and Community Service Program Coordinator. This part-time position offers 20–28 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during the 2025–2026 school year (August to June, depending on site assignment).

Recreation Leader I/II
The City of Foster City is searching for talented, energetic, responsible individuals who are serious about having fun! If you can think on your feet and be a fun team player, this could be the position for you! As a Recreation Leader, you’ll be responsible for implementing quality youth and teen programs and providing a safe environment for our participants. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position limited to approximately 20 hours per week and 980 hours in a fiscal year. Level of position will be determined based on the experience (see Education and Training Guidelines). 

Summer Camps
Candidates must commit to working for the entire Summer (June 15, 2026 - August 8, 2026). There will also be a mandatory training for all new and returning staff on June 8, 2026 through June 12, 2026. Work hours will vary between 7:45am – 6:00pm depending on the camp, Monday through Friday. No weekends shifts are available. 

Summer Camps: Kamp Koala, Camp Outback, Camp Way Outback, Camp Breakaway. 

The Vibe Teen Center
We are looking for Recreation Leaders to assist with supervision, lead recreational activities, supervise rentals, and plan special events for teens. This position will start in June and Recreation Leaders must be able to work on a Friday or work a weekend shift each week. Work hours will vary, but typically will be from:

School Year Schedule: Positions are limited.

• Monday - Thursday 3:00pm-6:00pm
• Fridays 3:00pm-9:00pm
• Some weekend shifts are available.

Summer Schedule: 

• Monday-Thursday: 3:00pm-6:00pm
• Fridays: 3:00pm-8:00pm
• Some weekend shifts are available.

Salary 

• Recreation Leader I: $17.85 - $20.48
• Recreation Leader II: $19.12 - $21.96

Important and Essential Responsibilities 

• Must be at least 15 years of age to work at Summer Camps and 16 years of age to work at The Vibe.
• Supervise youth and teens in city programming, which may include after school programs, teen center, vacation and summer camps, and special events. 
• Take initiative to plan, organize, and implement high activity games, program special events and daily schedules, and community events. 
• Stay active and engaged with youth and teens. 
• Act as a professional role model, mentor, and leader. 
• Enforce guidelines and maintain a safe, clean, well-organized environment. 
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with youth, parent/guardians, staff, and community members. 
• Provide exemplary customer service. 
• Attend monthly staff meetings and trainings. 
• Work closely with external organizations and staff. 
• May provide leadership to staff 

Education and Training Guidelines 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to qualify would be: 

Recreation Leader I: Completion of eighth grade. No previous experience required. Volunteer or paid experience with groups of children is desirable.

Recreation Leader II: Completion of the ninth grade. Experience as a participant in a variety of recreation activities. Some experience in group leadership is desirable.

Special Requirements 
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 25 lbs.); complete forms and reports; ability to set-up and coordinate activities; remain calm and use good judgment in difficult and emergency situations; work flexible hours. Physical strength and stamina will be required in some positions to perform demonstrations and leads activities. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration 

• Certificates: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Course or equivalent (including adult, child infant CPR, and Standard First Aid) or ability to obtain at the beginning of employment.
• All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview.

Oral Panel Interview: Week of April 20

Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee that a candidate will be invited to participate in the selection process. The City of Foster City reserves the right, at its discretion, to limit the number of qualified candidates invited to the selection process.
