Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. THE DEPARTMENT

The Communications Center in the Support Services Division of the Hayward Police Department is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire Services throughout the City of Hayward. THE POSITIONS

Under direct supervision, the Public Service Assistant II will perform litter/trash pick-up, barbeque maintenance, leaf/debris pick-up, and miscellaneous park duties in Central Park and other community parks.  The Public Service Assistant II will also perform related duties as assigned.
 
WORK SCHEDULE

The Pool Tech is an hourly employee of the Parks & Recreation Department. The Pool Tech's primary responsibility is the maintenance of on-site recreation facilities at the Aqua Adventure Water Park and the safe operation of all rides. The Camp Director is primarily responsible for general and/or specialty camps. The Camp Director is responsible for all aspects of camp planning and implementation of camp programming.

• Plan and implement daily and weekly activities
• Develop, schedule and supervise part-time staff and "Counselors in Training"
• Handling parent and community inquiries
• Conducting weekly staff meetings

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by a coordinator or Recreation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age and one year experience in a recreation related field (or equivalent) or two years working experience as a leader in a recreation program or similar work experience (one year equals two full summers of program); preferable with school age children
• Possession of Class "C" California Driver's License and a good driving record (3 year, no points) from DMV
• Must have experience planning camp activities for school age children in a variety of settings (after school, child care and classroom experience may be substituted)
• Must have strong organizational skills and work independently and reliably complete tasks
• Must be able to work in changing climates (indoors and outdoors)
• Must be physical ability to load/unload, and carry bundles of supplies up to 25 lbs.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

· Ability to requisition supplies and/or purchasing program supplies within City guidelines

The Shallow Water Lifeguard is responsible for the supervision of on-site recreation activities at the Aqua Adventure Waterpark and safe operations of all rides (in water 4 ft or less). This responsibility may include public assistance, public education, enforcement of rules and regulations, administration of first aid and life support, and light maintenance. The Lifeguard is expected to work weekends and holidays on a regular basis.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive.)

• Provide outstanding customer service while performing assigned duties, including interpreting and conveying information throughout the Waterpark
• Supervise public use to enhance recreation activities and insure safe and legal uses
• Ensure the safety of all guests and staff within the Waterpark
• Respond to emergencies in a timely and safe manner
• Produce competent reports of incidents and injuries
• Recognize hazardous situations and contain area until help arrive
• Comply with standards of City designated safety agencies
• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality in performing all aspects of assigned responsibilities
• Attend training and staff meetings as assigned
• Perform duties of Water Safety Attendant as needed
• Assist other City departments in the event of major emergencies
• Perform other duties as assigned

The position is supervised by the Lead Lifeguard and/or Coordinator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 15 years of age

  • Sit or stand for long periods of time (90% of assigned shift, possibly in excess of 10 hours)
