EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Training: High school graduate or equivalent qualification, and 30 semester units from an accredited college or university desired (not required)
 

Certification: Must pass a comprehensive physical examination, meeting the standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST)
 

License: Possession and maintenance of a California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
 

Minimum requirements for lateral entry officers:

• Must meet all minimum requirements for entry level officer with the exception of written and agility examination requirements.
• Must possess a POST Basic Certificate.
• A minimum of one-year satisfactory past police patrol experience within the past three years.
• Must have no record of felony criminal convictions or misdemeanor convictions that could affect credibility as a witness in a court of law.
• Vision and hearing capabilities consistent with guidelines by POST and/or the City.
• Must be of good moral character to be determined by a thorough background investigation, which will be conducted under POST guidelines.

Physical Skills

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced Associate Engineer with a passion for public service. This position will provide exposure to large-scale projects and internal collaboration and performs engineering work on water and wastewater capital improvement projects. They will perform regulatory reporting for utilities as well as the Sanitary Sewer Master Plan. Utility experience is desirable. 

It is essential that the candidate should have project management experience from conception to completion and be able to manage a wide variety of projects simultaneously while developing and maintaining positive and effective working relations with others. The ideal candidate would be able to effectively communicate information to non-engineering staff or persons, both orally and in writing, which are necessary for interacting with contractors, vendors, manufacturers, and residents.

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in civil engineering work including project design, plan checking, and project management.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California, desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works department will make the hiring decision.

Building Inspector I/II

• Conduct combination field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling; ensure proper and safe installations of routine and complex building systems; ensure building progress conforms to all applicable California Building Standards (Title 24, California Code of Regulations), City adopted codes and ordinances, and pertinent provisions of Federal, State and County health and environmental ordinances.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Transportation for the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. Instruct Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance, and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Document Bus Operator Students’ performance. Must be willing to work shift assignments from Santa Rosa, Novato, San Rafael, or San Francisco Division locations. May be assigned to perform other duties.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Conducts training class for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Develops classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators.
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators; or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Maintains complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Performs individual evaluations of student operators progress in the training program.
• Conducts ongoing Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain a V.T.T.
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.

• Works with the Director of Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Develops and implement minimum standards for bus operator trainees.

• Conducts refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence.
• Testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials.

• Re-trains bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations.

• Observes and monitor safe operation of vehicles by riding with operators, contact and correct operators on safety procedures.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of one year of dispatch work; two years general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

This is a one-year, limited-term assignment, with the possibility of extension based on budget, departmental needs and approval. The position will require a minimum of 24.5 hours and up to a maximum of 39.5 hours per week. The work schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift schedules are reviewed every four months and are subject to change.

SELECTION PROCESS

The ideal candidate should possess a combination of technical skills, certifications, experience, and professional attributes suited to complete a full range of journey level mechanic work by performing preventative maintenance repair and overhaul of gasoline, diesel, alternative fuel, hybrid and electric automobiles, light and medium duty trucks, and related equipment that includes but is not limited to emergency generators, small construction equipment, bituminous machine, trailers, arrow board trailers, message board trailers, gas, diesel, and electric driven carts, landscape trucks, paint sprayer trucks, pressure washer trailers.

Selection Process
The process may include an online multiple-choice exam (tentatively scheduled for the second week of September), individual and/or panel interviews, professional reference checks, fingerprint check for criminal history, pre-employment medical exam and other related components.
