The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security. 

About the Sheriff’s Department :

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

Under general supervision, provides clerical and administrative support to a department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments.  Typical functions may include, but are not limited to reception, word processing, record keeping, and filing.  May also perform related work as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Office Specialist I – This is the entry-level class in the Office Specialist series.  Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn office and City procedures.  As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines.  The Office Specialist I class includes part-time and temporary positions with incumbents available to provide relief support to a variety of City departments.  This class is alternately staffed by the Office Specialist II class.  Full-time incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher class.

Office Specialist II – This is the journey-level class in the Office Specialist series.  Requires the competency to independently perform a variety of office support duties.  All positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non-routine circumstances.  Specific duties, including the amount of typing, word processing, and use of on-line of personal computers will vary with the organizational unit to which you are assigned.  This class is distinguished from Office Specialist III, which is the working lead-level of the series, because that class performs more complex and/or specialized office clerical support functions.  Full-time incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Types correspondence, reports, forms and specialized documents related to the functions of the organizational unit to which assigned from drafts, notes, dictated tapes, or brief instructions, using a typewriter, word processor, or personal computer.
• Proofreads and checks typed and other materials for accuracy and completeness; compliance with departmental policies; and correct English usage, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
• Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports from an on-line or personal computer system, following established formats.
• Prepares and updates a variety of reports, which may require the use of arithmetic calculations and maintains records and processes forms, such as payroll records, purchase requisitions and orders, and others specific to the organizational unit.
• Establishes and maintains office files; researches and compiles information from such files.
• Provides factual information regarding City or unit activities and functions.
• Reviews computer-produced reports for accuracy and makes corrections as required.
• Operates standard office equipment and performs such office support activities as opening and distributing mail, processing outgoing mail, erasing dictation tapes and ordering office supplies.

THE POSITION:

The City of Hayward is excited to announce its recruitment for the position of Jail Supervisor. Under the direction of the Jail Administrator, incumbents perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including providing technical and functional supervision over jail personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. 

To plan, assign and review the work of assigned jail personnel; to perform duties related to the booking, searching and monitoring of prisoners; and to assist with other non sworn police activities as necessary. This is an advanced journey level class. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including providing technical and functional supervision over jail personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

The ideal candidate will be committed to providing excellent service and possess the ability to multi-task several duties while supervising staff and ensuring health and safety standards in a secure Type I jail facility. The candidate should have experience training and evaluating others, completing administrative reports, and understanding the principles of report writing. Successful completion of the “Correction Officer Supervisor Course” issued by the State of California Standards and Training for Correction Program or Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory Course is highly desired.
 

Essential Duties:

What you will do: 
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, assign and review the work of assigned jail personnel.
• Evaluates performance of assigned jail personnel; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures; and counsels employees.
• Approves days off and vacation requests from jail personnel and coordinates replacements for vacancies; schedules emergency and short-term assignments for the jail.
• Assists in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, programs and goals/objectives for the jail facility.
• Assists in identifying training needs and the design of training programs; supervises and/or provides training to employees assigned to the jail adhering to the laws pertaining to a Type I jail facility.
• Train and develop assigned personnel; maintain awareness of new procedures related to prisoner incarceration.
• Book prisoners into the jail; prepare paperwork on prisoners; fingerprint and photograph prisoners.
• Maintain light security of the jail; separate prisoners as necessary.
• Verify warrants and criminal history of prisoners on law enforcement computer systems.
• Transport prisoners to court or other jail facilities.
• Respond to the public inquiries on the phone and in person and provide information as appropriate.
• Deliver prescribed medication to prisoners.
• Inventory and order jail supplies and food.
• May be assigned to act in the absence of the Jail Administrator.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties as a jailer in a department similar to the Hayward Police Department.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license at time of appointment.

Must possess a Basic Corrections Officer Academy Certificate from a certified Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) academy.

Must possess or obtain, during the probationary, certificates for the "Correction Officer Supervisor Course" issued by the State of California Standards and Training for Correction Program or the Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory Course.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to: work in a standard office and jail facility environment; drive to various locations to transport prisoners; perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to book prisoners and prepare documents and data using a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball, use standard office equipment; sit for prolonged periods of time; stand, walk, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, squat and stoop in the performance of booking prisoners; converse by telephone and in person, and be clearly understood; interact with the public and all different levels of City staff in a professional manner; and safely lift, carry and maneuver property, boxes, or files weighing up to 35 pounds.

About the Position:

The County of Yuba is currently accepting applications for Building Inspector I/II/III in the Building Department of the Community Development & Services Agency. This is a multi-level class series in which incumbents may be assigned to any one of the three levels depending on organizational needs, professional experience, individual expertise and skill, proficiency gained and complexity of assignments. The Building Inspector series is flexibly staffed through level III.

Building Inspector I – Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn structural, framing, plumbing, electrical, energy consumption, disability access, zoning, and related codes and inspection techniques. As experience is gained, inspections become more complex and are performed under more general supervision. This is the entry level in the building inspection series.   

Building Inspector II – Under limited supervision, this is the journey level in this class series, fully qualified to independently perform diverse inspections. This is the journey level in the building inspection series.  

Building Inspector III – is the advanced journey/lead level in this class series. Incumbents at this level receive general supervision as new or unusual situations arise. As employees progress through these levels, they will be assigned more complex, difficult and/or contentious inspections.

Building Inspector I:

• Perform basic principles and practices of the Building Department for inspections, investigations, code interpretation, permit application intake, review and permit issuance, including record keeping and case management.  Also learns zoning, land use, fire-safe and water quality related regulations.
• Inspect new and existing residential properties, and other building and construction elements for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specifications and standards related to foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing and other structural and functional elements.
• Maintain professional development and continuing education activities, study for and pass certification exams to maintain certification requirements.

Building Inspector II:

• Learn inspection practices and procedures for non-residential commercial and industrial projects, new and existing.
• Perform inspections of new and existing buildings, building and construction elements and structures with limited supervision.
• Investigate complaints regarding existing buildings or new construction to determine if code violations or problem conditions exist; resolve problems or refer them to the supervisor for resolution.

Building Inspector III:

• Provide lead direction, training and work review to professional and technical staff; organize and assign work, set priorities and follow-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; provide input into performance evaluations.
• Perform plan reviews and field inspections of a complex and difficult nature; respond to highly sensitive, complex, or technical complaints; make on-site visits to validate the nature of the complaint and recommend solutions.
• Independently perform full range of Building Inspection duties including conducting and documenting multiple inspections; maintain accurate and separate records for each inspection.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level class in the maintenance series. Under general supervision the applicant will perform semi-skilled and skilled labor and maintenance repair. Salary $44,680.45 - $57,743.03 per year ($21.484 - $27.758 per hour) DOQ

Maintenance Worker III: This is the senior level class in the maintenance series. Under limited supervision the applicant will organize, assign, review, and participate in the work of assigned personnel engaged in maintenance equipment operation work pertaining to building, maintenance and repair. Salary $48,664.92 - $62,892.37 per year ($23.399 - $30.234 per hour) DOQ 

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Multipurpose Senior Service Program (MSSP) Case Manager will perform professional and clinical social work tasks and duties for older adults living with complex medical conditions to assist them to obtain optimum health, financial, and/or social services. As a member of the Human Services Department, this position reports to a Clinical Supervisor in the Aging and Family Services Division.

This is a regular, part-time position (32 hours/week) and will receive pro-rated benefits.

Examples of Job Duties

• Manage a caseload of 28-32 clients comprised of older individuals with complex medical conditions.
• Conduct comprehensive client assessments and develop and monitor service plan.
• Collaborate with team members, Human Services programs, and community agencies.

Receive supervision from the City Manager/Deputy City Manager or Department Head/Manager. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. 

• Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, providing factual information which may require the interpretation of City policies and procedures; takes messages or refers the caller to the appropriate person. 

• Provide administrative support for the entire department (e.g. distribute and send mail, postings, arrange food and beverages, and set up and take down meetings, etc.)

• Researches, synthesizes, and compiles data for informational purposes, projects, or special reports or summaries.

• May attend a variety of meetings with City staff, contractors, vendors, representatives of other governmental and/or regulatory agencies and the public, to identify, discuss and/or resolve problems.

• Coordinates purchasing and ordering supplies; contacts vendors; obtains the best terms and prices; arranges for delivery; and processes paperwork for payment.

• May assist in the development and administration of the annual program and/or departmental budget.

• When assigned to the City Manager’s office, supporting the City Clerk in preparing, routing for signature, and scanning City documents. 

• Prepare and plan for special events.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Advanced Practice Provider in the Health, Housing & Community Services Department! In this role, you will make assessments, provide treatment based on a patient's physical and psychosocial condition, provide patient counseling and guidance in the maintenance of health and the prevention of illness; and perform other related work as required.

In the Public Health Division, the Advanced Practice Provider provides health care at the Berkeley High School Health Center (BHSHC) and the City of Berkeley's Public Health Clinic. This position has overall responsibility for the delivery of clinical care and supports other clinical staff.

This is an hourly, part-time position working up to 19 hours per week. It is not a benefited position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is:

• Equivalent to graduation from a Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution approved by the Physician Assistant Board of California (PAB) and one year of clinical experience in a health-related occupation; OR
• Equivalent to completion of a graduate-level Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited institution approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Completion of an approved preceptorship and appropriate academic training in an area of specialization covering extended roles in traditional nursing and must meet all other requirements as an advanced practice registered nurse as specified in standards by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Education and training in specialty area appropriate to the clinical assignment are desirable.
