Program hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from approximately 2:30 pm – 5:15 pm; additional evening and weekend hours as needed.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Adaptive Program. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents. 
 
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program area focus is Adaptive (Special Needs), but you might be asked to support another recreation area.

 When assigned to the Adaptive Program, the leader will have an opportunity to have hands-on experience working with a special needs population.  Disabilities of participants vary in range from non-communicative to diminished motor skills to severe autism.  The position will report to an experienced staff member.  As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, responsibilities will include but not be limited to light office tasks, customer service, set up and take down of facility equipment and janitorial tasks. Perform related work as required. This is a part-time, year-round position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Set up and take down tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment, and other related material and equipment.
• Greet public and provide general information for all Recreation department classes, programs, and events.
• Daily janitorial/maintenance duties such as routine and special cleaning of restrooms, community center rooms (i.e. wipe counters, vacuum floors, sweep walkways, empty trash receptacles, replace paper products and litter pick-up).
• Monitors guest activities in the community center and enforce all rules, regulations and safety principals.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures for the entire Community Center.
• Occasionally assist with the coordination and execution of Department-sponsored outdoor events or classes.
• Maintain records and reports as required.
• Enforce all rules, regulations and safety principals. 
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to take the lead in completing assignments when working with a partner or on a team. 
• Respond professionally to emergencies, provide care as indicated under the scope of training.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. The employee must satisfactorily complete an evaluatory period before obtaining regular status. Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency.

The Marinwood Community Services District Fire Department is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Firefighter-Paramedic.  The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies.  There are currently two (2) positions available for immediate appointment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Marinwood Fire Department operates as a single station all-risk Advanced Life Support (ALS) engine company that includes nine (9) professional firefighters trained in areas of firefighting, ALS/BLS emergency response, technical rescue, disaster response, fire prevention, and community preparedness.  The department works closely with the City of San Rafael Fire Department under an existing Shared Services Agreement.  This includes San Rafael Fire Department providing all chief officer services, ambulance services, and joint training programs.  Our mission is to partner with our community to proactively reduce risk from fire, illness, injury and other hazards.

Per Diem Dispatchers will provide public safety dispatching at Levi's Stadium and/or Santa Clara Police/Fire Communications.

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Typical Duties

 

Duties may include, but are not limited, to the following:

• Operates base radio console equipment, transmitting and receiving routine and emergency messages
• Receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines
• Dispatches appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment, and personnel in response to those requests, in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Coordinates emergency operations between various departmental personnel and equipment
• Operates data terminals for information pertaining to daily public safety operations and general emergency services
• Maintains written logs, files, and computer information in the prescribed manner
• Updates computer files and performs other clerical functions and tasks as directed
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

 

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or
• Five (5) years of current paid employment with a public safety agency or private emergency medical services agency, with high level Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and/or telephone operation; or
• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

 

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a current P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch certificate is required.

 

Other Requirements:  

• Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours.
• Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and/or psychological testing.

• Distinguish and interpret the meaning of colors on video display terminals

• Perform with a high standard of customer service, professional conduct, and civic responsibility
• Use emergency medical questioning techniques and provide medical instructions via telephone when required

The Police Officer - Lateral position is a sworn position in the Police Department. Enforces Federal, State and Municipal laws and ordinances; performs patrol duties in cars, on motorcycles or bicycles, and on foot as required; enforces State and local traffic laws to regulate traffic, and investigates accidents; answers calls for service and the protection of life and property; makes arrests as required and testifies in court; performs crime prevention duties and community relations activities; interfaces with all City departments to insure the utmost service to the citizens of Campbell; prepares reports; services and maintains departmental equipment; may relieve or assist Records or Communications personnel.

Typical Duties:

• POST Academy Graduation Certificate
• First Aid Card & CPR Certificate 

Additional Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.
• Pre-employment: ability to pass drug and alcohol test; candidates must not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of a crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or a state prison.

Probationary Period: Upon date of hire and 18 months following the date of swearing in as a Police Officer

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND POLYGRAPH TEST
An intensive background investigation will be conducted on each final candidate in accordance with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Peace Officer Background Investigations Guidelines. Candidates will also be required to successfully pass a polygraph test administered by a licensed polygrapher, a psychological exam given by a City-selected psychologist and a medical exam by a City physician (to include a stress test EKG and general physical examination). The results of the psychological exam are valid for one year. Suitability for employment will also be based on the following POST job dimensions: problem-solving ability, learning ability, observation skills, willingness to confront problems, interest in people, interpersonal sensitivity, desire for self-improvement, dependability, integrity, credibility as a witness in a court of law, communication skills, judgment under pressure and physical ability.

SPECIAL PAY INCENTIVES:

• POST CERTIFICATE PAY – Additional 2% pay for Basic POST, 5% for Intermediate POST, and 5% for Advanced POST certificates
• SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT PAY – 5% additional pay for special assignments
• LONGEVITY PAY – 3% at 5 years and 6% at 10 years of service
• Up to $10,000 in student loan forgiveness

• Responds to calls for the protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, general public service calls, and complaints including those involving automobile accidents, traffic hazards, misdemeanor and felony incidents, domestic disturbances, health code and local ordinance violations, property control, civil complaints, and related incidents; responds to and provides assistance at a variety of public service type calls that are non-criminal in nature.
• Conducts initial and follow-up investigations at scenes of incidents to which summoned or observed; determines what, if any, crime has been committed; collects, preserves, processes, photographs, and books evidence; locates and interviews victims and witnesses; identifies and interrogates suspects. • Prepares and serves search and arrest warrants; apprehends and arrests offenders for crimes committed under federal, state, and local laws and codes; controls and mitigates people under the influence of drugs or alcohol or other potentially hostile situations.
• Directs traffic at special events or emergency situations; provides traffic and crowd control at community and emergency events.
