Tri-City Mental Health Authority is looking for a Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) who will provide a variety of rehabilitative support services to clients. This position will be a part of a 3 year - federally funded MHSSA Grant Team set to end in December 2026. Candidates must be able to facilitate the following: behavior modification, skill building, and self-care and safety in individual and/or group settings; demonstrates and coaches clients to promote and reinforce the use of effective coping strategies and techniques based on individual needs and treatment plans; performs outreach and provides linkages and referrals to a variety of behavioral health, community, and social services, resources, and systems of care; encourages full client engagement in services to promote wellness and recovery; and performs related duties as assigned. The BHS will report to Clinical Supervisor I.

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Provides individual, group, family, and collateral rehabilitative support services to facilitate behavior modification including skill building, needs assessment, self-care/safety, and coping strategies and techniques; may provide case management services in the office and in the field.

 

• Develops, monitors, and evaluates client rehabilitative and case management goals and increases/decreases in targeted behavior according to client needs; monitors goal progress/regression.

 

• Provides linkages, resources, and referrals to address basic needs and other barriers to wellness and recovery including food, housing, clothing, transportation, and other financial resources.

 

• Encourages and supports clients to fully engage in services; provides outreach and assists clients in addressing and overcoming barriers to treatment.

 

• Plans and facilitates and/or co-facilitates group sessions for clients and community members focused on skill building; tracks client attendance and follows-up with individual clients, as necessary.

 

• Provides advocacy for clients to ensure inclusion in all aspects of the community including socialization, employment, education, and housing to meet client needs.

 

•  Participates as a member of multidisciplinary treatment teams; addresses client goals, barriers, progress, and other relevant information to enhance treatment services; assists and supports clients in maintaining cooperative and effective relationships with treatment teams.

 

• Attends and participates in a variety of meetings, trainings, utilization and peer review activities, and other functions involving supervision, case consultation and public information and education.

 

• Maintains accurate, detailed, and thorough documentation, case records, and notes of all billable and non-billable activities and services related to client care; completes necessary documentation for billing purposes.

 

•  Maintains client confidentiality in compliance with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) regulations.

 

•  Performs crisis intervention counseling within scope; assists professional staff in coordinating or arranging for the provision of appropriate care services.

Tri-City Mental Health Authority is looking for a Bilingual Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) within our Therapeutic Community Garden (TCG) who will facilitate/co-facilitate Therapeutic Community Garden (TCG) groups, community outreach, curriculum development, participate in community events and presentations, garden events and establish relationships and collaborate with outside agencies. Will provide behavioral health support services to individuals in need of and requesting behavioral health services for both adults and children. The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) will report to the Clinical Program Manager.

 

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Facilitate and/or co-facilitate therapeutic support groups in a garden setting and virtually using mindfulness techniques;
• Perform community outreach internally and externally;
• Create and develop curriculum for the TCG Program;
• Contribute to monthly program report writing;
• Process incoming and outgoing referrals for TCG;
• Work on a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery;
• Create and develop TCG workshops for the community;
• Assist in maintaining data related to activities performed by TCG team

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently communicate and exchange information, review handwritten, electronic and facsimile documents. The employee must occasionally move items weighing up to 45 pounds or more, outdoors, in different weather situations up to three miles (Pack Test – Arduous Position).

Must be able to constantly work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently operate brushing and firefighting equipment and tools, frequently move about work sites, communicate and exchange information, observe site conditions, transport equipment and tools between vehicles and work sites on a daily basis, and occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to access areas of work.

Required Hours and Location

Individuals will be assigned to one of the three (3) crew schedules; Crew 2 (Wed-Sat), Crew 3 (Sun-Wed), or Crew 4 (Sat/Sun/Tu/Wed) shift, working 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week with some scheduling flexibility. Occasional overtime work in evenings, nights,  weekends, and holidays upon prior approval by supervisor. This position will work out of Holiday Camp Fire Station in Calabasas but may be required to travel to various other locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must at least have a High School diploma or Equivalent

• Meeting requirements of a Firefighter TYPE 2 (T) NWCG 310-1 2006 is required (S-130, S-190)

• Must complete the Calopps online application. (If "GROUP B" list becomes active, candidates must submit a complete "Hiring Packet" for consideration of position, which consists of:  1. MRCA application (form below), 2. Resume, and 3. Fire-related training certifications, uploaded in PDF format NO SCREEN SHOT, emailed to firedivisioneoc@mrca.ca.gov )

• Must pass the Wildland Firefighter Work Capacity "Arduous Pack Test" (iall candidates must perfrom the pack test administered by MRCA.  The Fire Division uses the pack test for basic physical and candidate assesstment.

• No prior fire experience is required, however is desired.

Training and Certification

• Attend the 8hr RT-130 Annual Fireline Safety Refresher if already certified in the fire service, (Terms and conditions apply)
• Completion of BLS First Aid and CPR/AED, or obtain through MRCA when available
• Current National Registry EMT Certification is desired, but not required.

Knowledge of: 

• Moderate proficiency with Office 365 and email, with particular emphasis on word-processing and spreadsheet programs is desired.

Ability to:

• Prioritize varying tasks and projects, and manage multiple projects at once.
• Work independently to handle multiple tasks under deadlines.
• Revise work approach to address changed conditions.
• Complete projects and follow oral and written directions.

• Learn technical material.

Competencies:

• Excellent oral and written English language skills. Not required to be a native English speaker, but fluency in English will be required.

• Establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work including the general public.

Other Requirements

Candidates must have a valid California driver’s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record. Employees must be willing to participate in agency emergency response, which can be anywhere within the state of California. Bilingual skills in English and another locally common language, such as Spanish, Korean, Farsi, Chinese, Armenian, Yiddish, or Tagalog is highly desired.

• Background check including submission of fingerprints to Department of Justice, and a record clean of violent crimes or felonies.
• Successful completion of a physical examination including a drug test.
• Verification of the right to work in the United States.
