About the Department

The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Position Duties

Salary range for this classification is $162,795.36 - $198,307.20 annually. This range includes an approximate five percent(5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

Additionally, Animal Shelter Veterinarians (Full Time) are eligible for a hiring incentive that shall provide a one-time, non-pensionable payment of $20,000 upon hire. The one-time, non-pensionable lump sum Hiring Incentive shall be paid asfollows:

Upon Hire: $5,000
Upon 6-Months Worked: $7,500
Upon 12-Months Worked: $7,500
 
The City of San Jose, Animal Care and Services Division is seeking Veterinarians to work at the Animal Care Center, including one full-time in either/or, shelter medicine and/or the shelter’s public high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic. The Animal Shelter Veterinarian may perform all aspects of shelter medicine in a large animal shelter. Duties may include routine spay/neuter surgeries on cats, dogs, and other animals as indicated. This position provides direct care and treatment of homeless animals entering the City of San Jose’s Animal Care Center.
 
In addition, this position is required to diagnose, treat, and/or recommend euthanasia. Registered Veterinary Technicians will be assigned to assist this position with the preparation and post-surgery processes of spay/neuter and other surgical procedures. This is a position reporting to the Shelter Manager of Animal Care and Services. This classification is represented by City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP).

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Directs, coordinates and performs the screening, diagnosis, and basic and emergency medical treatment of animals in the shelter.
•  Performs or supervises the visual monitoring of impounded animals, including those that may be isolated or quarantined for signs of illness or unusual behavior.
•  Performs surgical procedures, including spay/neuters and vaccinates animals to prevent diseases. 
•  Maintains accurate medical records of animals.
•  Effectively communicates the condition and status of animals with staff, public and animal groups. 
•  Advises staff on matters within the veterinary field.
•  Orders, maintains and controls the drugs used at the shelter and in the field.
• Trains appropriate staff in administering first aide and vaccinations to animals, the performance of euthanasia and other paramedical duties.
• Performs and directs staff to perform euthanasia of animals that are irremediably suffering from serious illness or severe injury, as necessary
• Ensures that shelter staff participates in a comprehensive disease prevention program for the animal shelter. 
• Participates in special spay/neuter or vaccination clinics.
• Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; providing technical guidance to staff; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
• Ensures compliance of activities to codes and all legal regulations.

Physical Requirements:
Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds while handling animals and equipment. Employees may be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, loud noises, odors, dust, air contaminants, blood borne pathogens while using hypodermic needles on animals and may be exposed to animal scratches and bites.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Public Safety Dispatcher with an energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 
Under general supervision of the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs related work as required.

About the Position:  The Planning Department is seeking TWO interns who are interested in learning about open space conservation and planning for ecologically sensitive recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents related to Midpen lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in project management, planning research, analysis, and written communication.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description on our website. Basic Requirements: Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, or trade school in a relevant field or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in the natural sciences, park/open space management, land use/environmental planning, GIS/geography, biology, ecology, or another related field and experience with field data collection techniques. This internship requires strong organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and with a team. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, ArcGIS software, GPS equipment, Microsoft Excel, and Apple iPads is desired, and familiarity with Midpen preserves/trails as well as local flora, fauna, and natural history are a plus.   Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license is required. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions:  This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  The selected individuals will be required to work a minimum of three days on-site per week, and assignments may vary between field and office work. Field work is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-to-9-month period. This is a non-benefited position.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Civil Engineer in the Public Works Division of the Community Development and Services Agency. Under limited supervision, the Senior Civil Engineer will perform the more difficult professional engineering work including the preparation of civil design plans for various Public Works projects, conducting research studies, performing field inspections and testing, analyzing reports, maps, drawings, or geological data, and procuring permits; act as a resource to staff, contracts, consultants, other agencies and the public regarding areas of assignment; provide lead direction and technical assistance to assigned staff and/or project management; and perform related work as assigned. • Review plans and inspect projects; provide engineering design and code information and ensure that designs meet accepted industry and legal standards, and projects are biddable and buildable.
• Interpret and explain complex and technical laws, codes and regulations and provide information related to Public Works Engineering activities; may receive and respond to complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary.

The City of San José , Public Works Department is seeking to fill five ( 5 ) full- time Electrician vacancies . The department's tight-kn i t team of E lectrician s work collabo ra tively and intra-departmentally to ensure electrical components and systems are installed and m aintained throughout city facilities such as community centers, l ibraries and public park s.

Electrician I is the entry-level class in the Electrician series. Incumbents are provided with training and experience to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the full range of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.

Electrician II is the journey level class in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, working independently under general supervision.

Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining , testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating high and low voltage/amperage electrical components, systems and equipment including locating problems; determining appropriate courses of action; and coordinating repairs with affected parties. They design, fabricate, and install electrical systems and components and install wiring and electrical equipment, ensuring code compliance. Electricians review work orders, maintain activity logs, prepare requisitions and obtain approval for various projects. Duties may also include purchasing electrical supplies, including filling out paperwork; coordinating purchases; and, choosing vendors. They are responsible for responding to occasional emergencies, evaluating and taking required actions and determining if support is needed. Public Works electrician duties also include:

• N ew construction, remodels, small tenant improvement projects ;
• L ighting retrofit projects ;
• M aintenance of pump stations (includes motor controls and PLC's and computerized alarm and monitoring of pumps, etc. ) ;

The Extra Help Employee - Harmony House Coach position provides support, education, and advocacy to persons receiving services through the Mental Health Services Act. The Harmony House Coach may also provide a variety of services related to the operation of the Harmony House Drop-In Center and the Full Service Partnership Program. This position will provide welcoming and supportive activities, as well as perform tasks in support of facility operations at the center. The position is at-will, temporary, part-time and scheduled for up to twenty-five (25) hours per week.

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Santa Clara City Library is seeking an enthusiastic and community-oriented Librarian with a strong public service commitment at the Mission Branch Library. This Librarian will provide library service, information, and programming for all ages, and may be responsible of the branch in-lieu of more senior staff. Constant contact and collaboration with patrons of all ages, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities, are part of the daily duties of this position.  

This is a limited-term appointment of 30-40 hours/week for up to 6 months. As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor I/II position is located in the Behavioral Health division at the Health and Human Services Agency. This position performs a variety of para-professional and responsible eligibility determination and case management duties for alcohol and drug programs, including crisis services to individuals; and performs related duties as assigned. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor II is the full journey-level class within series and performs the full range of duties as assigned, responsible for direct client contact in the provision of case management including complex cases. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs client intake procedures, eligibility determinations and establishes case loads and services for programs in drug and alcohol, specialized programs, grant funded programs, and other health and human services programs.
• Maintains Glenn County drug and alcohol specialized programs, grant funded programs caseloads under the supervision of a health services program coordinator or HHSA program manager.
• Communicates with clients; determines eligibility, educates clients regarding various health services, social services, grant funded and specialized programs and recommends other sources of services for those not eligible.
• Tracks, documents, and prepares information for appropriate billing for services; maintains established productivity rates for a variety of health services programs.

This position provides support, mentoring, education, skill-building, advocacy, and youth-guided programming to persons receiving services at the Community Drop-In Youth TAY Center located in the Behavioral Health Division at the Glenn County Health and Human Services Agency. The incumbent will work as part of Behavioral Health with the Transition Age Youth Team delivering outreach/engagement and supportive service to youth and families on school campuses, in the community, and/or at the TAY Center. Individuals between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four (16-24) years of age are encouraged to apply. This position is at-will, temporary, part-time and scheduled for up to twenty-five (25) hours per week.

Position Duties

The Senior Security Officer will perform duties related to enforcing SJPL Behavior Policy, monitoring and responding to security related incidents at library branches, be proactive in mitigating/deterring criminal activity and damage, performing accurate incident reporting, as well as providing security coaching and training to staff. The Security Officer will monitor inside the library building, as well as the outside perimeter of library building and library parking lot. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Interact with a diverse population of library customers and employees to preserve a safe and inviting community environment; provide customer service to library customers. 

• Patrol multiple library branch locations, including building interior and exterior, to identify and deter illegal activities, report suspicious behavior or dangerous situations, while promoting a positive visual presence.

• Address and deescalate library security incidents in alignment with the library’s Behavior Policy and enforcement of violation guidelines. 

• Ensure a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with difficult library customers and demonstrate excellent customer service to both customers and all levels of library staff. 

• Determine, using sound judgement, the best means of addressing security situations, including informing customers about library policies, reporting incidents appropriately to local law enforcement, producing accurate documentation/reporting, warning customers of rule infractions or violations, assisting staff with escorting people out, and serving suspension paperwork.

• Investigate and document potentially hazardous conditions and communicate with library facilities, executive management, Police, Fire, and other agencies as appropriate; liaise with the partner University Police Department and San Jose Police Department, as needed.

• Write incident reports of library conduct policy violations, activities, and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. Maintain security-related records and information.

• Draft library customer suspensions requests and serve suspension paperwork; gather and present data related to incidents.

• Evaluate and recommend revision of security and emergency procedures and policies.

• Interpret, implement, and relay legal statutes, laws, departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Provide security-related trainings to library staff.

• May provide training to contract security officers, monitor effectiveness, and evaluate performance/process improvements; ensure current training of all security personnel is complete.

• Respond to emergencies at any of the branch libraries; ensure accurate reporting and follow up with library executive management; Respond to medical emergencies and may provide first aid or CPR.

• Current CPR and American Red Cross Standard First Aid certification desired but not required time of hire. Training can be provided.

• Bilingual skills preferred.

The salary range for Senior Security Officer is approximately $76,789.44 - $93,300.48 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to interpret, implement and relay policies, procedures, laws, regulations with the public and partner departments, and possess the ability to mitigate and deescalate conflict.
