Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluation.  Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Civil Engineer experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time level I or II (depending on qualifications and experience) Civil Engineer to provide technical assistance for our newly established Utilities Department. Transportation Planner

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Transportation Planner to help keep the Sunnyvale transportation network safe and efficient while planning for future growth. The position will mainly develop, launch, and manage the City's new citywide microtransit service. This includes coordination with the microtransit/shuttle service provider, with the internal Communications team on branding and marketing, and the grant program administration agency.  The position will also respond to citizen concerns and comments about the service, perform outreach related to the service, manage the program budget, ensure grant program requirements are met, and look for grants for future program funding.

Under general direction, this position may also assist in current and long-range transportation planning for the City. The position may also manage and review land development traffic studies; perform level of service analyses for intersections and arterials using computer models like Synchro, and Vistro; apply for grant funds; and perform other duties as assigned.
 
The City is seeking a Transportation Planner with strong project management, analytical, technical and problem-solving skills, along with proficient oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have an excellent ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams; the ability to prioritize and deliver results in a constantly changing environment; and a proven ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and vendors.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Reserve Police Officer is a sworn position assigned to field operations to patrol for the prevention and detection of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations within the philosophy of community oriented policing.  Incumbents are normally expected to solve most work problems independently and to refer to supervisory personnel only those matters which involve policy decisions, technical questions and unusual problems at the entry level and make recommendations at the advanced level.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Enforces laws and regulations and apprehends law breakers
• Conducts crime investigations
• Patrols for the prevention and detection of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations
• Responds to radio messages or telephone instructions and investigates reported disorders or crimes
• Notes and reports complaints, accidents, offenses and damages to property
• Reports abandoned or damaged vehicles
• Directs traffic
• Makes arrests, issues citations and warnings
• Prepares reports on arrests and property impounded
• Inspects crime scenes and questions witnesses
• Analyzes clues and information related to criminal activities
• Reviews modus operandi of known criminals
• Reports on the progress of investigations and prepares assigned cases for court
• Serves warrants
• Appears in court to testify regarding arrests and other law enforcement activities
• Writes complex and detailed reports
• Operates patrol vehicles
• Administers first aid or CPR when appropriate
• Develops cooperative working relationships and mutual aid agreements with other local public safety representatives
• Develops and maintains partnership building with the residential and business community as well as the other working departments within the Town of Colma
• Adheres to department rules, regulations, orders and procedures
• Exhibits and encourages behavior that is consistent with the Town’s risk management program and decreases risk of accident or injury to self, employees, residents, visitors and their property
• Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
