Part-Time position: variable hours; evenings and weekends

Pay Rate: starting at $18.13 an hour

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and provides oversight of rental groups, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist patrons and prospective participants on the phone and in-person
• Assist permit groups with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment
• Promptly open and unlock facilities or close and secure facilities as scheduled
• Complete facility condition forms following permit group use and incident reports as needed
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions
• Turn athletic field lights off and on for sports groups
• Sell and scan admission tickets special events and/or theater performances

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sweep floors, vacuum carpets, and dust or polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Wash windows, clean restrooms, replenish supplies, and sanitize high touch areas often
• Empty waste receptacles and remove any trash or debris found throughout facility
• May assist with conducting recreation classes
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience:
Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 250 hours of experience in customer service or a related field preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Certificates and Licenses:

• Proof of negative Tuberculosis (TB) skin test prior to first day of employment

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducing classes and participate in group activities
• Facilitate organized games and sport activities
• Assist in the encouragement of participation, developmental learning, and good sportsmanship
• Assist as a chaperone at dances, parties, and on field trips
• Assist in facility set-up and break-down for group activities
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies
• Direct the proper use and care of assigned facilities and equipment

Our five all-day summer camps run from June 15 to August 14, with staff training beginning June 8. Serving children ages 4-12 at multiple locations, these positions serve as role models to youth campers throughout the Conejo Valley, leading arts and crafts, recreation games, swimming, hiking and more!

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school OR passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test; OR Possession of a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
• College coursework in police science, criminal justice, or a related field is desirable.

Experience:

• Completion of a P.O.S.T.-certified training academy.

Special Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age as of the date of hire.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Must be of good moral character with no felony convictions.

Out-of-State Candidates:

• The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will conduct an evaluation of all out-of-state training.
• POST is the sole authority on applicable training and determines whether the candidate must attend an abbreviated academy or a regular police academy.
• If an academy is required, the candidate will be hired as a Police Officer Trainee. Upon completion of the academy, promotion will be made to Police Officer.

Physical Agility Examination

• Phase I Includes:
  • 99 Yard Obstacle Course (time limit 25 seconds)
  • Body Drag (165 pounds) (time limit 14 seconds)
  • Chain Link Fence (time limit 10 seconds)
  • Solid Fence (time limit 13.5 seconds)
  • One Mile Run (time limit 10 minutes)
• Phase II: For candidates progressing to the Chief’s Oral Interview process
  • 1.5 Mile Run (time limit 15 minutes)
  • 15 Military Style Push-ups without stopping

 

This thorough process ensures that candidates meet the high standards required to serve the Simi Valley community with integrity and professionalism.
