This is an exciting opportunity under the Technical Infrastructure Division in the Information Technology Department (ITD). The Technical Infrastructure Division designs and engineers solutions that address and meet the City's strategies built around Smart City initiatives, such as Digital Inclusion and Digital Equity, Public Wi-Fi expansion for Economic Development, Endpoint Modernization and virtualization, Multi-cloud frameworks, and digital analytics to support data-driven decisions. The Technical Infrastructure Division includes citywide wired and wireless network infrastructure, core server infrastructure, public and private cloud infrastructure, and hyper-converged infrastructure. Salary Information: The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Enterprise Information Technology Engineer (EITE) I/II shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

Salary Range including the 5% non-pensionable increase:

• Enterprise Information Technology Engineer I: $121,583.28 - $147,944.16 annually
• Enterprise Information Technology Engineer II: $128,812.32 - $156,942.24 annually

SALARY:  $9,343.57 - $9,810.74 - $10,301.26 - $10,816.32 - $11,357.14 per month. Appointments to this classification are normally made at the first step of this five-step salary range.  Candidates are also eligible for additional salary incentives including Holiday Pay, Education Incentives, and other special assignment pays.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Extra Help - Extra-help positions are short-term employment for up to 1040 hours which is equivalent to about six months; however, employment might end sooner depending on the needs of the hiring departments. Medical Services Assistants II who are assigned to the clinics and perform advanced patient care duties as defined in the classification specification shall receive a differential of 6.2% in addition to all other compensation.
 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Accurately take and record the condition, respiration, pulse, temperature and blood pressure of patients; record other pertinent information as observed or measured.
• Apply non-sterile dressings and administer non-medicated treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, surgeon, podiatrist, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
• Carry out rehabilitation procedures as directed by therapists; perform a range of motion body movement with/for patients; position and exercise patients.

Qualifications

Certification Requirement:
Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate or a certificate of completion or degree from an accredited medical assisting program is required. A certificate of completion of an approved medical assisting program must be submitted at the time of application.

Bilingual Fluency:
Some positions may require bilingual skills. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to be considered for a bilingual position.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

One year of experience in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office as a nurse's assistant or medical assistant.

Position Duties

The San José Fire Department (SJFD) is seeking to fill multiple Senior Public Safety Dispatcher positions in the Communications Division.  

Senior Public Safety Dispatchers (Senior PSDs) are responsible for supervising a team of Public Safety Radio Dispatchers (PSRDs) assigned to a shift in the Communications Center.  PSRD is the journey-level class for public safety dispatching within the City of San José wherein incumbents are required to handle the full range of telephone answering and dispatch functions.

Responsibilities of the Senior PSD include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervising PSRDs, including approving time-off and other scheduling requests in accordance with the established guidelines.
• Assigning PSRDs to work the various dispatch positions within the Communications Center. 
• Conducting training sessions and drills to maintain the efficiency and coordination of their assigned team. 
• Evaluating the performance of team members and giving frequent feedback to subordinates.
• Preparing written training evaluations and performance appraisals.
• Investigating and responding to resident, department, and allied agency concerns or complaints.
• Coordinating with Chief Officers in the field regarding matters affecting department operations.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is responsible for providing high quality, safe and effective maintenance, operation and construction of streets, parks, storm drainage and related infrastructure. The Department is under new leadership with a renewed focus on master infrastructure planning, proactive capital maintenance and replacement, traffic engineering and customer service. Pipeline public projects include completion of the Civic Center Master Plan, design and bid of the new Santa Teresa Fire Station, a $7 million pavement rehabilitation project, a $3 million San Ysidro Park remodel project, and completion of Traffic Impact Fee Study. The City is processing multiple large private projects including an almost one million square foot Amazon data center as well as multiple residential subdivisions and multi-family projects.

THE POSITION
The City Engineer/Transportation Engineer reports to the Public Works Director and exercises and is afforded significant authority and discretion to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Division which is comprised of two sections--Capital Improvements and Development Review. The Engineering Division is responsible for the design, bid, management and inspection of City-owned capital infrastructure and facility projects. The Division is also responsible for the review of private development projects, issuance of typical engineering permits, and related inspections. Additionally, the position coordinates the internal Traffic Safety coordination including preparation of warrant studies and other engineering studies. The City Engineer will be the primary point of contact with the City’s Utility Department facilitating coordination of street and utility capital projects. The City Engineer may serve in an acting capacity Director in the absence of the Public Works Director.

The successful candidate will:

• Be a team player and open to differing opinions;
• Embrace technology and continuous quality improvement in all aspects of Engineering operations;
• Prepare, monitor and manage the Division budget (including operating and capital budget) and collaborate with the Director and Deputy Director on Departmental budget and capital budget;

1. Develop goals and objectives, organize, direct, advise and assist the activities of the Engineering Division, including the preparation of plans and specifications, engineering design, public works inspections, public works engineering office activities and field engineering. Make policy recommendations on City standards, and codes, regarding traffic, infrastructure, and public works activities.
2. Perform preliminary engineering review and consultation on various public and private projects with various developers and designers and project engineers, review maps, plans, specifications, and projects for compliance with sound engineering practice and existing laws, and review initial studies and environmental impact reports for adequate mitigation of infrastructure impacts.
3. Assume management responsibility for assigned engineering activities and operations of the Engineering Division including conducting traffic engineering and transportation planning studies, preparing traffic control plans, and making sound recommendations for improved traffic control services.
4. Prepare complex staff reports and memorandums regarding capital projects, development within the community, and traffic/transportation related matters.
5. Receive and responds to citizen complaints/concerns regarding traffic safety, signal operation, and congestion; resolve complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
6. Oversee and participate in conducting inspections for the installation of traffic control devices, traffic signs and pavement markings; review and approve bid documents.
7. Prepare city policies and guidelines for engineering activities including the installation of traffic control devices, pavement markings, street lighting, and traffic studies.
8. Select, train, motivate, and evaluate engineering personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; prepare performance evaluations, professional development plans, and performance improvement plans.
9. Prepare and present comprehensive technical reports and economic analysis, including the comprehensive Fee Schedule analysis and comparison studies, estimates for operational and capital budgets, manpower projections and traffic safety and engineering analyses.  Compile annual Public Works Engineering Department fee schedule and listings of fees to build, plan and schedule long-range engineering, planning programs and environmental impact reports.
10. Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the Engineering Division budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement approved adjustments.
11. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures related to the Engineering Division; assess and monitor workload; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the Public Works Director; direct the implementation of improvements.

Typical Qualifications:
