Vegetation Field Operations Unit Position:

Working with the Vegetation Field Operations Unit, the Engineering Technician position will provide technical support for routine and corrective vegetation management activities within Valley Water managed creeks and rivers and on dams. This role will work directly with Vegetation Program Specialists coordinating vegetation management for flow conveyance and infrastructure integrity, fuel reduction through weed abatement, invasive plant management, and maintenance access. This position will assist with field inspections, data collection, documentation, and reporting related to planned and accomplished work. Typical data collection will include plant species and site characteristics, project limits, and photos. 

Technical support will also be through the use of database programs and applications such as the SMP Oracle Database, Maximo, and ArcGIS to modify and update existing work area polygons, create new maps for routine and corrective work, and to create work orders for vegetation management. 

Additionally, this position will assist with customer service requests received through the Access Valley Water (AVW) system by confirming Valley Water right-of-way and maintenance obligations, confirming field conditions as needed, and responding to customers with planned maintenance actions.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Performing field inspections of vegetation management work in progress or recently completed for documentation, planning, and reporting purposes related to SMP activities using GPS enabled equipment and applications such as Survey 123.
• Using ArcGIS, updating county-wide program specific shapefiles related to routine vegetation maintenance activities for use with work orders. 
• Assisting with data management and reporting to regulatory agencies associated with Valley Water’s Stream Maintenance Program (SMP). 
• Assisting with customer service requests received through the Access Valley Water system by confirming Valley Water right of way and maintenance obligations, confirming field conditions as needed, and responding to customers with planned maintenance actions.

O&M Engineering Support Unit Position:

Working within the Watersheds O&M Engineering Support Unit, this position will help conduct field investigation and assessment activities along streams, levees, and maintenance roads, and perform corresponding data collection and mapping using GPS tools and GIS software programs.   The position will help prepare work orders for field crews and help prepare reports on work performed for Valley Water assets. The position will also provide support with internal and external customer requests via the Access Valley Water (AVW) communications system.  The position reports to an Associate Engineer-Civil, and will work closely with field operations administrators, engineering technicians, and engineers, among others.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Conducting and leading field investigations and related activities for Valley Water’s watersheds assets.
• Researching and responding to requests via Valley Water's Access Valley Water (AVW) communications system.
• Preparing work orders utilizing Maximo system.
• Preparing GIS maps, conducting research, and providing support for engineering work.
• Preparing reports relative to data collected and work performed.
• Attending and participating in required meetings and training.

Operations and Maintenance Engineering Support Unit / Vegetation Field Operations Unit (Position Code 334 / 15) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

 

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (6 months).

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Transportation for the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. Instruct Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance, and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Document Bus Operator Students’ performance. Must be willing to work shift assignments from Santa Rosa, Novato, San Rafael, or San Francisco Division locations. May be assigned to perform other duties.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Conducts training class for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Develops classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators.
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators; or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Maintains complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Performs individual evaluations of student operators progress in the training program.
• Conducts ongoing Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain a V.T.T.
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.

• Works with the Director of Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Develops and implement minimum standards for bus operator trainees.
• Monitors progress of trainees and provide periodic counseling and progress evaluation.
• Conducts refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence.
• Testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials.

• Re-trains bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations.
• Evaluates new equipment and changes in existing equipment and prepare data to be used as instruction criteria. (This material is distributed to bus operators when training on this equipment) outlines and checklists.

• Compiles and maintain "Training Subjects Manuals."
• Obtains and maintain appropriate certifications.

• Works with passenger relations and planning department to provide ADA training for persons with disabilities.
• Represents GGT as necessary and assist in the structure and the presentation of the annual Regional Bus Roadeo.
• Instructs and monitor operation of G.F.I farebox and radio systems.
• Observes and monitor safe operation of vehicles by riding with operators, contact and correct operators on safety procedures.
• Issues infractions and/or discipline for violations of safety policy and procedures.

• Performs driver safety observations by riding on board buses or observing from a moving vehicle or fixed location and provide written reports on these observations; and issues discipline for safety violations observed.

San Mateo County Parks (SMCP) is currently seeking a full-time extra help Bilingual Community Engagement Intern II.

This position would be based out of Flood and Friendship County Parks and primarily working with the communities surrounding these parks. 

Friendship County Park is located in North Fair Oaks, an unincorporated area of Redwood City. Through community collaboration, the small urban park was developed to provide outdoor recreation facilities and space to promote community gardening. The park is situated on San Francisco Public Utility Commission land and is managed by SMCP. Less than an acre in size, the park features 30 community garden planters, a playground, picnic tables and more. Plot use is through an agreement with SMCP and requires regular participation in meetings. 

Flood County Park is a 21-acre park located in Menlo Park. It is primarily used as a location for family and group picnicking, playground use, and walking by the local community. The park has recently opened a new multi-use sports field, tennis/pickleball court, pump track and more! 

An intern at these locations would work on improving the interpretive elements of each park and provide programming and outreach opportunities for the local communities.

The Bilingual Community Engagement intern will report to Flood Park and be able to drive to Friendship Park and other park locations as needed. The intern will be supervised by the Interpretive Division Park Staff. 

 

Tentative schedule for this position (subject to change):

• Tuesday – Saturday: 8 hours each day
• 1 – 2 In person workdays
• 2 Virtual workdays (work from home)
• 1 Day for Events/Programming

Examples Of Duties:

A Bilingual Community Engagement Intern would be responsible for:

1. Management of Friendship Park Community Garden, including but not limited to:
   1. Managing garden plot availability and agreements
   2. Being the primary point of contact for Community Garden participants; maintaining regular communications by County phone, text, and email
   3. Working alongside gardeners to identify and address any needs or challenges in maintaining garden beds
   4. Facilitating monthly on-site educational opportunities for gardeners with staff from San Mateo County Health, Sustainability Department, and community partners
   5. Managing on-site garden tools and supplies; identify additional supplies that may be required
2. Community Program Coordination and Outreach, including but not limited to: 
   1. Coordinating and leading programs with Community Based Organizations and Partner Organizations within the community near Friendship and Flood Parks (i.e. Libraries, Schools)
   2. Leading interpretive programs at Friendship and Flood Parks 
   3. Tabling at local community events, such as Farmer’s Markets
   4. Providing translation when needed at programs and events throughout SMCP
   5. Assisting Interpretive Division with educational outreach throughout SMCP
   6. Creating flyers and social media posts to promote SMCP

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will: 

• Have strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish with diverse community members and San Mateo County staff to support gardeners. 
• Be an enthusiastic, outgoing, positive, and energetic person who can work collaboratively or independently with little to no supervision. 
• Be open to learning new skills, be flexible with various work projects, and be able to follow directions. 

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Bilingual in Spanish required
• Experience in food growing and garden management desired
• Knowledge of and ability to teach gardening concepts desired
• Ability to engage with individuals of many demographics and histories – youth, seniors, immigrants, economically diverse
• Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to plan programs and events and organize participants and volunteers
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License and transportation available to commute to park sites throughout San Mateo County

This is a full-time position requiring weekend work.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

 

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

San Mateo County Health's Aging and Disability Services Division is seeking qualified individuals for the unclassified and limited-term positions of In-Home Supportive Services Social Worker I/II/III. Social Workers provide a wide variety of welfare services in such areas as information and referral, protective services, out-of-home services, health related services, chore services, and other welfare services within the Health and the Human Services Agency.

 
Currently, there are three limited-term vacancies and an unclassified vacancy in the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program. The program provides in-home care for persons who cannot safely remain in their own home without such assistance. The recipients of IHSS are aged, blind and/or disabled and eligible for Medi-Cal. Disabled and/or blind minor children may also be eligible for IHSS. The Social Worker will make a home visit to determine eligibility for the program and to conduct an assessment to determine a range of service hours for particular tasks. The IHSS recipient or guardian is the IHSS employer and is responsible for hiring and supervising a provider for the care they receive. The Social Worker will travel throughout the County to conduct home visits, attend meetings and perform other duties of the position. The Social Worker will work in the San Mateo, CA Aging and Disability Services Office.
 

This IHSS Social Worker will conduct intake and/or on-going activities for IHSS recipients. Some of those activities include:

• Conduct initial IHSS assessments using a detailed State assessment tool.
• Complete necessary documents, paperwork, and work within different information technology systems.
• Conduct annual reassessments.
• Educate, support, and perform administrative duties for IHSS recipients and care providers to understand/comply with program regulations.
• Provide education, outreach, and community resources information.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with quality assurance and program integrity to ensure proper adherence to regulations.
• Prepare for and attend Fair Hearings.
• Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings or other activities to support San Mateo County's vision for integrated services.

SALARY:
Social Worker I: $7,162.13- $8,008.00/month
Social Worker II: $7,236.67- $9,048.00/month
Social Worker III: $8,533.20- $10,665.20/month

Social Workers provide highly skilled, intensive casework services to individuals and their families and provide casework consultation within the department and to outside agencies.  Incumbents of positions at this level work with minimal supervision and are expected to have acquired the high degree of assessment skills required to perform care coordination and referral tasks in complex casework areas. Lead supervisory responsibilities may be assigned as circumstances dictate.

NOTE: This is an unclassified position. Unclassified positions are at-will for a limited duration, typically associated with grant or other special funding. These positions are not covered by San Mateo County Civil Service Rules; and there is no formal probation period. The following are the same for classified and unclassified positions: salary, increases and other forms of compensation; accrual of sick leave, vacation, overtime, holiday and leaves of absence; health, dental, vision, long and short term disability, and retirement.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Community Program Analyst II - Aging & Disability Services.

The Community Program Analyst II position within the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Unit, a community-based service for older adults and people living with disabilities, within the Aging and Disability Services (ADS) Division. The position performs a variety of technical tasks related to monitoring, policy interpretation, policy development, and development of training materials for the IHSS program. Much of the work includes compiling and analyzing data, collaborating with staff and clients/families to ensure a service delivery system that is responsive to the needs of older adults and people with disabilities. Individuals should have knowledge of issues regarding aging, disabilities, functional/cognitive/mental limitations and experience in QA within a large, regulation driven service delivery system.

The Community Program Analyst will conduct QA case documentation reviews, home visits, and consultation as detailed by the California Department of Social Services (State). The analyst will provide technical guidance and education on program regulations and county operations and produce monthly, quarterly and year-end reports for Aging and Disability Services management/executives and State QA/Program Integrity. In addition, the analyst will serve as liaison among social workers, Public Authority and IHSS clients/providers to resolve disputes. The role also includes leading investigations and collaboration with the California Department of Health Care Services on suspected program misuse and oversight of all required QA monitoring work of the unit.

Community Program Analysts provide technical assistance and evaluate program functions to support effective community and client service delivery. They serve as County liaisons with contract service providers, and community-based organizations, ensure compliance with program regulations and procedures and monitor contracts related to assigned programs. Analysts may also perform other work-related duties as required.

The current vacancy is in the ADS Division located in San Mateo, CA, but may move to the South San Francisco office if needed. The position will travel throughout the County to perform the duties of this position. Travel to meetings and training courses located in Sacramento and other counties is also required.

TIO connects climate technologies and customers by providing financial incentives (through grants and loans) as well as technical and matchmaking support. Climate technology areas include zero emissions vehicles and infrastructure, zero emissions energy storage and backup systems, composting, and waste-to-energy projects (co-digestion, waste treatment, anaerobic digestion, combined heat and power). By supporting the scale-up of climate technologies, TIO can help achieve state and regional greenhouse gas emissions targets, reduce emissions in impacted communities, while also making technologies cost-effective even in regions without strong climate policies.

In addition to electric vehicle and charging programs, the TIO administers the Climate Tech Finance program which offers loan guarantees to help entrepreneurs secure debt financing, such as a loan through a community bank, so they can commercialize emerging technologies faster. By offsetting the risk for banks, the program helps entrepreneurs bridge a challenging financial gap on the path to commercialization. In many cases, the Climate Tech Finance program is helping entrepreneurs get their first business loan.

About the Strategic Incentives Division
The Strategic Incentives (SI) Division supports the Air District’s mission by managing incentive funding that is awarded to eligible projects that achieve voluntary reductions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, primarily from on- and off-road vehicles and equipment that operate in the Air District’s jurisdiction. Annually, the Strategic Incentives Division administers more than $90 million in new revenue to fund programs and projects that replace older diesel-fueled vehicles and equipment such as school and transit buses, marine vessels, locomotives, trucks, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, and other mobile equipment, with newer, cleaner alternatives, including zero-emission technologies, and install refueling/charging infrastructure that supports the accelerated adoption of zero-emissions vehicles and equipment. Other examples of programs administered by staff in Strategic Incentives support the reduction of single-occupancy vehicles, provide cash to residents for retiring their older vehicles, and provide grants to reduce pollution from woodburning devices and lawn and garden equipment. What You’ll Do
The Assistant/Associate Transportation Planner performs professional transportation planning work; conduct and review transportation impact studies; prepare plans, studies, and reports; and to do related work as required. 

Assistant Transportation Planner - The Assistant Transportation Planner is an entry level class in the transportation planning series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Transportation Planner by the performance of the less complex tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including assignments in the fields of multi-modal transportation associated projects, master plans, specific plans, policies, and programs. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by higher level employees. However, as experience is acquired, the employee performs with increasing independence. Since this class is typically used as a continued training class, employees may have only limited work experience. This classification receives general supervision from the Parking Manager, or a higher-level position.

Associate Transportation Planner - The Associate Transportation Planner is a journey level class that performs duties relating to multi-modal transportation and associated projects, master plans, specific plans, policies, and programs. This class is distinguished from the Assistant Transportation Planner by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including complex plans review, policy development, and advance report preparation. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment exercised on diverse and specialized assignments. It is further distinguished by its major program management responsibilities. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Review and analyze land development projects including but not limited to VMT, TDM, LOS, parking compliance and other transportation related issues.

• Assist the day-to-day operations of the City’s 3,000+ on and off-street public parking spaces in downtown San Mateo along with public parking spaces in other commercial areas such as 25th Avenue.
