The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Transportation Planner to help keep the Sunnyvale transportation network safe and efficient while planning for future growth. The position will mainly develop, launch, and manage the City's new citywide microtransit service. This includes coordination with the microtransit/shuttle service provider, with the internal Communications team on branding and marketing, and the grant program administration agency.  The position will also respond to citizen concerns and comments about the service, perform outreach related to the service, manage the program budget, ensure grant program requirements are met, and look for grants for future program funding.

Under general direction, this position may also assist in current and long-range transportation planning for the City. The position may also manage and review land development traffic studies; perform level of service analyses for intersections and arterials using computer models like Synchro, and Vistro; apply for grant funds; and perform other duties as assigned.
 
The City is seeking a Transportation Planner with strong project management, analytical, technical and problem-solving skills, along with proficient oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have an excellent ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams; the ability to prioritize and deliver results in a constantly changing environment; and a proven ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning, civil engineering, public administration, urban planning, or other closely-related subject ; AND

Two years of progressively responsible professional planning or administrative experience primarily in transportation planning activities.

The Department

The mission of the Maintenance Operations Department is to enhance the community by providing high quality maintenance services through the maintenance of safe and effective transportation systems and public infrastructure that support a desirable quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors, and to support the City organization with efficient and effective services for City buildings and fleet vehicles.

The Positions
The Building Maintenance Division of the Maintenance Operations Department is seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide HVAC maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Building Maintenance Workers (HVAC) design, fabricate, inspect, install, troubleshoot and evaluate problems with HVAC equipment.  They also repair heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and related apparatus. Additionally, they install, repair and/or replace controls for energy management system as well as perform preventive maintenance and sheet metal work, including design and fabrication.

The Building Maintenance Division of the Maintenance Operations Department is also seeking experienced Building Maintenance Workers to provide general maintenance support for all public facilities, such as City Hall, Historic Buildings, Fire Stations, Police Department, Recreation facilities, and Rental Housing. Maintenance tasks for the general assignment typically include painting, electrical repairs, wall repair, roof repair, carpentry/metal work, and floor repair.

• Using safe job practices, including wearing the proper PPE and making the job area safe before proceeding to work.
• Maintains cooling towers and sump basins as well as filtration systems.
• Responds to calls for emergency repair service.
• Maintains operating logs and related records.
• Replaces sub-assembly units; inspects safety cut controls.
• Performs other related work as required.

The Program Services Specialist position primarily consists of fieldwork to perform site inspections of commercial and multifamily properties and office-based program support for implementation of a county-wide ordinance designed to reduce the amount of recyclable and compostable materials going to the landfill. On occasion, the position will also include site visits to monitor the use of compliant carry-out bags, field sampling for scientific studies, and program support for the Agency’s Facility Fee project. The position will receive direction from staff working on these projects. StopWaste offices are located at 1537 Webster Street in downtown Oakland, and the Program Services Specialist will also be performing fieldwork throughout Alameda County.
