Hiring Process

Step 1: Apply! A copy of your Lifeguard certification or proof of course enrollment is required with your application.

Step 2: Register for Summer Lifeguard Tryouts at: https://bit.ly/aquahire

Tryout Requirements:

• 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle)
• 50-yard Breaststroke
• 50-yard Back Stroke
• 2-minute tread with hands in the armpit
• 10lbs brick retrieval from 10-13ft of water
• 5 enter and exits from the side of the pool (no ladder)

Interviews will be conducted immediately following the successful completion of your tryout.

Step 3: All new employees must attend the Lifeguard Orientation Training on Saturday, June 7
 

Position Qualifications

Lifeguard ($17.00-$19.13)  Lifeguard

• You must be at least 16 years of age by your start date
• American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard Certification.

Lifeguard II ($17.62-$19.83)  Lifeguard II

• You must be at least 16 years of age by your start date
• American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard Certification
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
• A minimum of 140 hours of Lifeguarding experience

Senior Lifeguard ($18.25-$20.55)  Senior Lifeguard

• You must be at least 18 years of age by your start date
• American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard Certification
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
• A minimum of 500 hours of Lifeguarding experience

Assistant Pool Manager ($18.92-$21.29)  Assistant Pool Manager

• You must be at least 18 years of age by your start date
• American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguard Certification
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
• A minimum of 1000 hours of Lifeguarding experience

Successful candidates must pass Department of Justice fingerprint and
Tuberculosis (TB) screening clearances prior to the start of employment.

Hourly rate: starting at $17.00
 

• Assist in conducing classes and participate in group activities
• Facilitate organized games and sport activities
• Assist in the encouragement of participation, developmental learning, and good sportsmanship
• Assist as a chaperone at dances, parties, and on field trips
• Assist in facility set-up and break-down for group activities
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies
• Direct the proper use and care of assigned facilities and equipment
• Assist in the maintenance of records and the preparation of activity reports on assigned activities
• Act as a role model to program participants
• Supervise permit groups’ use of facility
• May be assigned to Camp programs
• Perform other related duties as assigned
   

• Minimum age of 16 years old with a valid work permit. Two letters of recommendation from non-family members.
• Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED Certification within 90 days of hire

Tuberculosis (TB) screening clearances prior to the start of employment.

Summer Day Camps

Looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference and having fun outdoors! If entering your senior year of high school, are in college or beyond, this could be a perfect fit. Our five all-day summer camps run from June 16 to August 15, with staff training beginning June 9. Serving children ages 4-12 at multiple locations, these positions serve as role models to youth campers throughout the Conejo Valley, leading arts and crafts, recreation games, swimming, hiking and more!

Locations throughout Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park

Weekdays 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM 

Positions: Camp Director, Senior Camp Counselor, Camp Counselor

Community Centers
Work with a variety of age groups teaching classes and assisting with special events

Locations: Borchard, Conejo, Dos Vientos and Thousand Oaks Community Center

Positions: Recreation Leader

Open daily, flexible work hours

Day Camps for individuals with disabilities
Serving youth, teens and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities

Locations: Old Meadows Center

Positions: Camp Director, Senior Camp Counselor, Camp Counselor, Recreation Aide

Weekdays; hours vary between 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

Qualifications Summary

Camp Directors- 30 college units completed preferred, with at least 1,500 hours of related experience
Senior Camp Counselor- 15 college units completed preferred, 500 hours of related experience preferred
Recreation Leader- 15 college units completed preferred, 500 hours of related experience preferred
Camp Counselors- High School Diploma (or GED), 250 hours of related experience preferred
