SALARY

$19.00 - $23.00 per hour

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position. Hours are limited to less than 1,000 hours per year.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled maintenance or custodial duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Clean and inspect facilities for vandalism or potential hazards.
• Sanitize surfaces, repair minor plumbing problems, diagnose basic sewer issues, replace components on fixtures.
• Maintain area(s) as assigned including parks and public buildings, performing basic repairs, inspections and landscaping.
• Load and unload supplies and materials.
• Assist with various areas of public works such as minor asphalt repairs, brush removal, facility repairs, stewardship of protected species, etc.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Position: Program Leader I (Special Events) 

Salary: $19.49 - $22.57

Hours: 8-30 hours per week 

Join our team of dedicated staff working in the special events division of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation, & Community Services Department. Team members will assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down events all while providing excellent customer service.

Redwood City is known for delivering a large variety of high-quality special events year-round including concerts, festivals, cultural events, kids concerts, pop up recreational activities, and more. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: follow event plan and execute assigned duties effectively and efficiently; understand proper setup and breakdown procedures of special events equipment; maintain and care for equipment as necessary; monitor program areas for quality assurance; operate effectively as a member of a team;  report to supervisors orally and in writing; complete assigned paperwork such as timecards and incident and/or accident reports.

The Position

The Planning Manager oversees the operations of CDD’s Planning Division, which includes supervision of a team of 10 planners and management of all current and long-range planning functions of the City. The ideal candidate is a team player; is experienced and effective in all aspects of professional planning practices; has proven leadership, negotiation, and communication skills; works well with a variety of interest groups, individuals, and stakeholders. The Planning Manager serves as staff liaison to the Planning Commission and supervises preparation of the Commission’s agenda and compilation of required reports and documents, and acts as Zoning Administrator and performs all duties required thereof by the Zoning Code. The position exercises direct supervision over professional staff in the Planning Division, receives general direction from the Community Development Director and/or Deputy Community Development Director, and works collaboratively with other division managers within CDD.

FACILITY MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

• Project: The intern will have the opportunity to select a hands-on community-based project track in either visual arts or performing arts.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Assisting with general office duties related to arts programming, including organizing files, organizing artist databases, preparing materials, emails, and phone calls.
• Conducting fieldwork and research related to public art.
• Creating and managing social media content and scheduling to promote arts initiatives. 
• Supporting community outreach efforts through special event participation, flyer creation and distribution, and in-person engagement.
• Practicing professional communication such as communicating with local businesses and community members to help build connections and promote the City’s cultural art initiatives.
•  Developing and distribution of surveys to gather public input and feedback for arts programs.
•  Contributing creative ideas to enhance public engagement and support the City’s Cultural Arts Program initiatives.

How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND

Experience: Four (4) years of experience managing a section with oversight of contract negotiation, administration, operation, or compliance within a large organization, all of which includes experience supervising professionals.

Substitution:

1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.
2. Possession of a graduate degree (Master’s degree or higher) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as public or business administration, economics, finance, business law, contract law, public policy, or other fields of study closely related to the essential functions of the job may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience.

The Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Street Maintenance Worker I/II to perform a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks involving the construction, repair, maintenance, and cleaning of streets, sidewalks, other concrete structures, storm drainage and related Public Works facilities.  The Street Maintenance Worker operates light power driven, hand-held, and "walk behind" equipment.

• Prepares and installs traffic signs and related posts per specifications.
• Places traffic barriers and warning signs and directs traffic.
• Performs street painting and striping per specifications, using a variety of materials and related equipment. 
• Assists in emergency repairs of Public Works facilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Street Maintenance Worker I:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school to provide necessary reading and communication skills;
• Prior experience in the operation of power driven equipment or previous maintenance experience is desirable but not required.

Street Maintenance Worker II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and construction of Public Works facilities equivalent to the Street Maintenance Worker I.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Street Maintenance Worker I:

• Valid California Driver's License
• Must obtain a Class B license prior to passing probation

Street Maintenance Worker II:

• Valid California Driver's License

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Experience: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible work experience in a fiscal or administrative capacity which included analysis, research, and program or project management. Previous experience in a public agency is desirable.

Licenses: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record as determined by California Motor Vehicle guidelines.
