Building Inspector Combination Certified I: $118,154.40 - $143,554.32

Building Inspector Combination Certified III: $126,169.68 - $153,709.92 

Building Inspector Combination Certified Senior: $143,073.84 - $174,370.56  

 

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

 

Position Duties  

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill two (2) Building Inspector-Electrical Specialty, Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior positions within the Engineering Services Division, Code Inspection Section.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.   

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Overview:

Under general supervision, this role assists in the implementation of the Pure Water Silicon Valley (PWSV) project, including planning, design, and validation studies of the advanced water treatment facility (AWTF) and the distribution of product water for direct potable reuse (DPR). Key responsibilities encompass the development of water quality testing plans, validation of treatment processes, provision of technical support for design, piloting, operational planning, monitoring plans, ensuring regulatory compliance with DPR regulations, managing Reverse Osmosis Concentrate, and aiding in the integration of purified water into the current water supply and distribution system.

The Associate Engineer additionally acts as a technical liaison for the Water Supply Outreach team-evaluating outreach materials for precision and conducting tours of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center for stakeholders and community organizations. The associate engineer would also assist the R&PW Unit in its ongoing collaboration with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division regarding State and Federal grant and loan applications. In addition, the incumbent would assist in the development of agreements for the PWSV. This position is essential for the implementation of the Pure Water project and ensuring that Valley Water achieves its long-term recycled water objectives while securing community backing and regulatory approvals.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support the R&PW Unit in its continued coordination with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division on State and Federal Grant and Loan applications.

Recycled and Purified Water Unit (Position Code 443)

The Position:

The Combination Inspector is responsible for performing the building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections.  Each Inspector may be assigned to one or more of the following Programs or specialties: Code Enforcement, Building, Electrical, Permit Center, and Plumbing & Mechanical.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Overview:

The Assistant Engineer I/II in the Construction Management Services Unit performs essential execution-level civil engineering and construction management support functions for Valley Water capital construction projects. This position performs professional engineering tasks related to managing construction contracts, including reviewing and processing contractor submittals and requests for information (RFIs), interpreting contract documents, evaluating design changes, and supporting change orders and construction claims. The Assistant Engineer I/II provides continuity during the transition from pre-construction into construction by supporting constructability review, contract administration setup, early contractor coordination, and issue resolution as work progresses. The role supports project delivery by providing timely technical analysis and coordination support under the direction of Associate and Senior Engineering staff to manage construction risks related to cost, schedule, and compliance.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the limited-term position of Code Enforcement in the Community Development Department, Building Division. 

In this exciting opportunity, the Code Enforcement Officer will work under the supervision of the Supervising Code Enforcement Officer and will serve as a frontline ambassador for city standards, working directly with residents, businesses, and property owners to ensure compliance with local codes and ordinances. This role is offered on a limited-term basis and is currently budgeted through June 30, 2027.  It is possible that the position will be extended beyond this date, but that will not be known until the Spring of 2027.  This position offers a meaningful opportunity to help uphold community standards and ensure compliant neighborhoods. The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Gilroy Police Department is seeking a motivated and community-minded undergraduate Police Administration Intern interested in gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic law enforcement environment. This internship offers the opportunity to work alongside sworn officers and professional staff while supporting public safety initiatives that benefit the Gilroy community.

The intern will assist multiple divisions within the department by providing clerical and administrative support related to crime analysis, youth task force and gang prevention initiatives, public safety communications, and community outreach programs. Responsibilities may also include assisting with special projects, handling confidential information, and supporting efforts that enhance departmental operations.

The intern will also participate in community outreach efforts and local events, helping strengthen connections between the department and the community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Emergency Management College Summer Intern for the summer of 2026. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in city government emergency management programs that make substantial impacts to the community. The Emergency Management Team works year-round to ensure that community is prepared for disasters through planning, training, outreach, and coordination with local and regional partners. Joining our team means contributing to meaningful work that directly supports community reliance and preparedness. 

Working under the supervision of the Emergency Services and Volunteer Coordinator, the Emergency Management Intern will assist with planning, preparedness, outreach, and administrative functions that support OEM programs and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness. Work includes both office-based and field support activities.
