ABOUT THE POSITION

The Town of Atherton invites you to apply for the position of Associate Engineer in the Public Works Department. The position, general supervision, performs various professional field and office engineering work related to the management, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the Town’s public works infrastructure, associated with the Capital Improvement Program (CIP); provides project management oversight, coordination and administration; conducts development plan reviews and inspections; confers with developers, contractors, and representatives of other agencies regarding facility and infrastructure development and maintenance; administers professional services and construction contracts; provides professional staff assistance to the Director of Public Works, other departments, and the public in areas of expertise; performs a variety of studies and prepares and presents staff reports; and assist in the development of the Department budget and monitors revenue and expense budgets on an ongoing basis.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, designs, and inspects all phases of civil engineering public works construction projects, including defining the scope of the project; coordinating with permitting and public utility agencies; applying engineering principles and practices to specific problems; coordinating construction schedules with other projects and agencies; preparing and reviewing cost estimates; and inspecting construction of projects to ensure compliance with construction documents; performs related planning and design work.
• Review of proposed private development projects; including issues related to public works, hydrology, grading, scheduling, traffic control, and erosion; prepares public works conditions of approval for proposed development.
• Reviews construction plans prepared by consulting engineers and private contractors; checks plans for conformance with regulations; reviews engineering calculations; participates in pre-design, construction, and coordination meetings and issues construction permits.
• Develops consultant requests for proposal for professional and/or construction services and the advertising and bid processes; evaluates proposals and recommends project award; administers contracts after award; ensures contractor compliance with Town standards and specifications, time and budget estimates; analyzes and resolves complex problems that may arise; recommends and approves field changes as required.
• Monitors and pursues grant opportunities for improvements in public works programs.
• Participates in the development of the Town’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
• Participates in the San Mateo County Cleanwater Program and assists with compliance and reporting associated with the Municipal Regional (NPDES) Stormwater Permit.
• Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related engineering field.

Certification: Posses and maintain a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.

Knowledge of:

• Civil engineering principles, techniques, policies, and procedures,
• Principles and practices of capital improvement program budgeting, cost estimation, funding, project management, and contract administration,
• Basic principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to Town public works infrastructure development and maintenance, engineering, and surveying
• Practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective staff reports

Skills and Ability to:

• Prepare, understand, and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Assist in and develop and administer contracts for professional services and construction in a public agency setting.
• Effectively represent the department and the Town in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, and regulatory organizations and individuals.
• Prepare and present clear, concise, and logical written and oral reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, legal descriptions, and other written materials.

The Redwood City Police Department is currently accepting applications for Per-Diem COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHERS.  Using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, the Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from within the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Maintaining contact with all units on assignment and maintaining status and location of police field units and fire units; Monitoring emergency alarm boxes; Coordinating emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other agencies; Entering, updating and retrieving information from networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information. Hours will vary depending on scheduling needs, and will be approximately 20-40 hours per month.

Definition: Under supervision, to provide leadership to recreation programs, activities or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants; and performs related work as required.  This temporary part-time non-benefited position works an average of 8 -15 hours per week during each sports season.  This position requires afternoon and evening shifts.

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of an After School Coach - Recreation Leader I , II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 Assists in planning, organizing, scheduling and provides direct leadership to classes in a specialized phase of the recreation program, class or activities.

• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Maintains group and individual discipline, and code of conduct.
• Implements a logical detailed sequence of activities to fit the abilities and interest of the participants.

Recreation Leader II:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 16 at time of appointment.  Equivalent to three (3) months of full-time experience (approximately 500 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience in recreation programs or equivalent. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1,000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid CALIFORNIA Class C Operator's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and a satisfactory driving record.

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification or be willing to obtain one

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

San Mateo County Health is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Public Health Clinics Strategic Projects Manager. This management position will report to the Public Health Clinics Manager, overseeing Edison Clinics and Mobile Clinics and will have broad project management responsibility for key strategic efforts affecting the Public Health clinics.

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position: Landscape Maintenance Worker

The City of Redwood City seeks a Landscape Maintenance Worker who will assist in the maintenance of parks and landscaped areas.  Under supervision, the incumbent will operate a variety of landscape maintenance equipment and will perform the following duties:

• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and fertilize shrubs, trees, flowerbeds, and landscaped areas.
• Complete turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, spraying, and installation of new turf areas with both seed and sod.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.
• Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools and landscape maintenance equipment including a rotary gang mower tractor, rider mowers, tractors, trencher, sprayer, brush chipper and chainsaws.
• Move and install park and recreation equipment. Perform routine preventive maintenance on mowing equipment and hand and power tools used in the work.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The incumbent may be required to work on weekends.

This is a non-benefited casual position.  A casual employee may not work more than 1000 hours per fiscal year.

THE POSITION

The main job of a Library Page is putting books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines back on the shelves and preparing the library for opening and closing. The ability to quickly and accurately sort things alphabetically and numerically is required. This is an ideal job for someone who enjoys organizing and who can work quietly on their own.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, sorts, shelves, straightens, relocates, and searches for library materials, re-orders and organizes materials as needed, provides basic directional information to patrons, performs basic circulation duties using computer software, performs physical tasks to support library programs and procedures, performs closing procedures, and does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Sorts and shelves materials, assists at public service desks; inspects materials for wear and damage and does basic mending of same; keeps books and periodical shelves in order; assists in taking inventory of books; performs basic custodial tasks as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge of: Basic clerical functions, principles of alphabetical and numerical filing, basic record keeping procedures.

Ability to: Sort material quickly and accurately in alphabetic or numeric order; follow oral and written directions; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to library patrons, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

An incumbent in this position performs a variety of law enforcement activities during an assigned shift, which may include crime response, patrol, investigation, traffic enforcement, crime prevention and public safety, case presentation and variable shifts. They wear uniforms, carry weapons, drive patrol cars or ride motorcycles and must comply with departmental grooming standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for competition in this entry-level examination, you must:

1.         Be 21 years of age.

2.         Possess a United States high school diploma, or G.E.D. with qualifying scores, or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination, or attained a two-year or four-year degree from a college or university accredited by the Western Association of Colleges and Universities.

3.        Have satisfactorily completed a P.O.S.T. approved academy.

4.         Possess a valid Class CCalifornia Driver's License by date of appointment.

5.         Possess a personal history which is compatible with the effective performance of sworn police duties.

6.         Have the physical strength, stamina and agility adequate to perform all duties of a Police Officer.

7.         Hear well enough to comprehend radio transmissions and long-range conversations.

8.         Have adequate written and oral communication skills to give instructions and explanations, conduct information-gathering interviews and write reports.

9.        Be able to deal with a variety of people and situations, exercising judgment, tact and self-restraint.

10.        Have adequate reading skills to understand and interpret orders, bulletins, laws, codes and court decisions.

11.        Be willing to work irregular hours and days and at various locations in the City.

12.        Be able to interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, and work as a team member.

13.        Be able to function under demanding time pressure.

14.      Be able to respond in a positive manner to supervision.

15.      Be able to attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience: Current employment as a regular (non-probationary) full-time, paid Police Officer in a public agency.

Certification: Basic POST Certificate
