The Position

The City of San Mateo is seeking a qualified and experienced Deputy City Librarian to serve in a key leadership role within the Library Department. Reporting to the City Librarian, the Deputy City Librarian acts as the Library’s chief operating officer and directly supervises division managers overseeing Children’s/Literacy Services, Information Services, and Circulation/Technical Services. The Deputy City Librarian also plays a lead role in cross-divisional project management, operational oversight, strategic plan implementation, and in representing the Library at meetings and public events.

Examples of Duties - Duties may include but are not limited to, the following:

• Prioritizes work of staff; develops and trains staff; conducts performance evaluations; approves actions regarding hiring, promoting, and disciplining; and approves recommendations on all employee actions.
• Reviews changes in laws, regulations, and guidelines for their effect upon Library activities; evaluates the effect of such changes, and recommends and implements changes to policies and procedures as required for compliance.
• Assumes management responsibility for all daily operations, departments, programs, and services of the Library.
• Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned services including human resources administration, library development, library service plan, outreach and marketing and is involved in the planning, implementing, and managing of new technologies.
• Monitors and evaluates the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of service delivery methods and procedures for the department.
• Reviews the work plan for the Supervising Librarians and Supervising Library Assistant; meets with each to identify and resolve problems.
• Negotiates and resolves significant and controversial issues.
• Conducts meetings and makes presentations; functions as the Library’s project manager for special projects as assigned;
• Assists in the coordination of library activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
• May participate in the delivery of library services.
• Be a community liaison and lead in fundraising relating to service outreach and marketing.
• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the library; estimates staffing, equipment, and supply needs based upon recent trends and planned activities; monitors monthly expenditures after budget adoption; oversees disposition of surplus materials; and approves purchase requisitions.
• Prepares a variety of reports and correspondence; reviews internal policies and procedures; develops content for press releases and other material for dissemination to the public.
• Represents the City and Library in the community, within the Peninsula Library System, and at professional meetings and committees, as necessary.
• Responds to citizen inquiries; investigates and resolves patron complaints and concerns; applies the principles of good customers service and instills it in staff members.

The City of Marysville has an full-time opportunity in the City of Marysville Finance Department.

The City of Menlo Park is currently recruiting for two city planners to join the Community Development Department. The planner series (assistant and associate) provides an excellent opportunity to gain technical and project management skills and experience in both current and long range planning. The Community Development Department includes the Building, Housing, and Planning Divisions. The Planning Division includes a current planning and long range planning team. The current planning team generally focuses on project management at multiple levels ranging from building permit reviews to environmental analysis of complex development projects. The advanced planning team currently focuses on the implementation of the City’s long range and policy documents.

Applications are being accepted for the position of Park Maintenance Worker part-time/hourly) with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal part-time Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 5-17 years of age) in beginning to intermediate tennis camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of tennis, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

Schedule: Camp will run from June 9th through June 19th.

Group A (5-7yrs) 9:00AM to 9:45AM

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

What You’ll Do

The Public Works Supervisor will organize and supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic markings, signs, signals, street lights, drains, storm pump, stormwater conveyance systems and sanitary pumps, lagoons, dams, creeks and ditches; to provide technical staff assistance, including safety compliance and implementation. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; standard operating procedures; establish schedules and methods for street, traffic and stormwater conveyance systems maintenance and repair; safety compliance and implementation; implement policies and procedures.
• Organize and supervise crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the repair and maintenance of streets and stormwater conveyance systems, including street resurfacing, streetlights, traffic signals and street markings and signs, repairing and patching; street cleaning; sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement; sewer cleaning and repair; weed control and storm drain cleaning maintenance.
• Maintain and interpret time, material and equipment use records; determine and implement adjustments to optimize the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Participate in selecting, training, motivating, counseling and evaluating staff; participate in monitoring employee performance objectives; prepare employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Coordinate safety training and support Department safety programs including preparation and updating of City safety practices, standard operating procedures and training materials. May be asked to conduct specific safety trainings depending on training and experience. These activities may be required in both the Engineering & General Services and Environmental Services Divisions as requested by the Director.
• Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors and lead workers.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance and repair activities; make plans and sketches for minor street maintenance and repair projects.
• Assist in coordinating street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for needed equipment and materials; monitor and control expenditures.
• Monitor streets, traffic signs and signals, street lights, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage facilities for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Issue purchase orders to contractors and vendors; requisition materials and supplies

The Public Works Supervisor receives direction from the Public Works Field Maintenance Manager or other Public Works senior management personnel and exercises direct supervision over crew lead workers, crews, and other staff per program assignment.

THE POSITION
