ABOUT THE POSITION
If you are passionate about ensuring quality and safety in engineering projects and want to make a real difference in the community, we have an excellent opportunity for you. The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Engineering Technician/Inspector at level I or II or III (depending on experience and qualifications) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The position will support the engineering staff with technical tasks for public works improvements, public works projects, and land development projects, and will entail a mix of technician and inspection duties. The goal of the Engineering Division is to promote a better quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the city of Gilroy through the provision of efficient engineering services and the creation of orderly growth and development within the city.

EXAMPLES OF ONGOING PROJECTS

• Provide inspection support to various Capital Improvement Projects, to include water and wastewater projects. 
• Coordinate inspection efforts with consultants and outside agencies.
• Process and review various public works permits.
• Administer the Sidewalk Repair Program.

NOTE: To foster teamwork and collaboration in the department, organization-wide, and in the community, this full-time position works on-site/in-person. Remote work is not an available option. 

This position performs a variety of para-professional, case management duties, and performs related duties as assigned in the adult and youth and family Mental Health Units, along with providing crisis services. The HHSA Case Manager II is distinguished from the HHSA Case Manager I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned and is responsible for the provision of case management including complex cases. Both levels of this position are responsible for providing direct case management services to clients  The position is located in the Behavioral Health Division at the Glenn County Health and Human Services Agency and is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Coordinates services with individuals, coordinates activities with other departments, medical providers, social workers, schools and/or other outreach agencies as appropriate to ensure that the needs of the clients are met.
• Receives referrals from the courts, schools, social workers or other individuals or organizations regarding individuals.
• Maintains close, collaborative and cooperative relationships with community agencies, social workers, local law enforcement and other public agencies carrying out treatment and educational plans; provides information to other County departments and agencies.
• Provides case management through individual or group rehab methods for children and/or adults for a variety of health services programs and services.

This position, under the general supervision of the Director, the cook is responsible for the preparation of food, for maintaining high standards of food quality, food production and portion control using standardized recipes; may be responsible for ordering appropriate quantities to meet menu requirements; ordering supplies, and maintaining perpetual and physical inventory. This position is full-time, and is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.  

JOB DUTIES

• Practices the highest standards of kitchen safety and food sanitation in accordance with applicable codes.  
• Cleans and sanitizes kitchen, serving areas, storage facilities, refrigerator/freezer, cooking equipment utensils, cookware, and assists in maintaining kitchen equipment.  
• Assists with meal counts, assists with preparation of monthly menus.  
• Coordination of kitchen and dining area clean up in accordance with site sanitary standards.  
• Performs all duties in accordance with applicable federal, state, and county rules, regulations and established standards of quality and sanitation.  
   

This position will oversee the Senior Nutrition Program and operations. The position includes administering, planning, directing, assessing, implementing, and evaluating the program to meet the nutritional needs of seniors. The Senior Nutrition Manager receives general supervision by department head or designee, and exercises direct supervision over Senior  Nutrition Program staff.  This position is full-time, and is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.  
 

JOB DUTIES

• Supervise, coordinate and prepare the meals for seniors; set up and serve seniors; maintain meal      records.  
• Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; monitor and control expenditures.  
• Ensure compliance with health and safety rules and regulations.  
• Ensures operational procedures for efficient and effective food production and distribution.

The Associate Civil Engineer position in the Imported Water Unit provides technical and project management support to: 

• Protect and promote Valley Water’s interests in imported water contracts.
• Develop imported water supplies consistent with Valley Water’s water supply planning efforts.
• Engage in statewide evaluation of water supply planning efforts.
• Improve the efficient integration of imported water supplies with Valley Water operations.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Perform analyses of engineering, operational, and economic data to support imported water projects, including surface and groundwater storage projects. 
• Review and analyze computer modeling results, including appropriateness of input, assumptions, and modeling methods, and specify output requirements.
• Review engineering plans and reports regarding construction and operation of proposed new facilities.
• Prepare spreadsheets to analyze costs, benefits, risks, and constraints of proposed projects and programs, and to document transactions and other records.
• Research current technical information, historical files, legislative histories, etc. to prepare analyses and reports.
• Support senior staff in the development, negotiation and administration of water supply contracts and cooperative agreements with other water districts, State and Federal agencies, and other interests
• Understand the administrative, financial, and operational requirements of existing water supply contracts and follow through with assigned actions to ensure compliance.
• Represent Valley Water in meetings and on committees; participate in technical development work conducted by coalitions of agencies; and provide support in technical negotiations.

Ideal Training and Education:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a field related to assigned functional area(s) OR possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two (2) years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.

Coursework in surface and groundwater conveyance, water quality, water resources issues, environmental engineering, mathematics, economics, and statistics.

PE is desirable but not required.

Imported Water Unit (Position Code 385) 

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

About the Position:  This position oversees aspects of Midpen’s vegetation management programs; advises and monitors field and office staff and contractors on vegetation management; leads a multi-department team in reviewing and setting priorities for all vegetation management activities on approximately 72,000 acres according to Midpen policy; train staff in ecologically sensitive vegetation management and safety; conducts field inspections; recommends appropriate treatment methods; monitors work; and reports on the progress of the programs to the General Manager, Board of Directors, and public.

Highly qualified candidates have knowledge and proven experience in the following areas:

• IPM principles in the management of invasive, weedy and flammable plants and pest animals in natural park environments and facilities.
• Knowledge of plant taxonomy and natural community ecology.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations related to vegetation management and plant collecting.
• Ability to identify plants (including special status plants), pests and sensitive environments with the Santa Cruz Mountains region.
• Analyzing the impacts of projects on native plant species and sensitive natural communities.
• Managing complex large-scale projects.
• Conducting botanical field surveys, or experience conducting such botanical field surveys under the direction of an experienced botanical field surveyor.
• Hiring and oversight of consultants and contractors.

Work Environment:  This position is part of the Natural Resources Department at Midpen’s administrative office in Los Altos, California.  Fieldwork is seasonally dependent, project-driven, and is an integral part of this position. Therefore, in addition to working in the office, the Ecologist III will sometimes work in the field. Fieldwork will require driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in all weather conditions, and hiking through steep terrain and wildland areas. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment.

Following onboarding and successfully meeting job performance expectations, the Ecologist III will be eligible to work a hybrid schedule (work from home 2 days per week and in the office 3 days per week). 

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in natural resource management, ecology, biology, environmental design, or a closely related field and:

• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in natural resource management preferably in parks or open space, and
• At least one (1) year of supervisory and administrative responsibility.
