The Department

The South San Francisco Public Works Department is comprised of its three main divisions - Engineering, Maintenance & Operations, and the Water Quality Control Plant. Together, these divisions ensure that South San Francisco's infrastructure and public services are efficiently managed and maintained, contributing to the overall quality of life in the community.

Located adjacent to San Francisco Bay on Colma Creek, the Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) provides secondary wastewater treatment for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno, and Colma. It also provides the dechlorination treatment of chlorinated effluent for the cities of Burlingame, Millbrae, and the San Francisco International Airport prior to discharging the treated wastewater into San Francisco Bay. The average dry weather flow through the facility is 9 million gallons per day (MGD). Peak wet weather flows can exceed 60 MGD.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS 

1. Leadership and Collaboration: Lead the citywide budget process, guide staff, and support senior management in decisions

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a forward-thinking and results-driven Budget Officer to play a pivotal leadership role in the Finance Department. This is a unique opportunity to shape the City’s financial planning and guide high-impact initiatives that support citywide service delivery and long-term fiscal sustainability.  

As the strategic leader of the City’s biennial budget process, the Budget Officer collaborates with all departments, provides key insights to executive leadership, and ensures transparent, data-informed decision-making. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget Strategy, Development, and Reporting 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial Operating and Capital Improvement budgets  

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial User Fees, Fines, and Penalties Schedule 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s annual Cost Allocation Plan  

• Collaborate with departments to align financial resources with City goals and priorities 

• Develop multi-year financial forecasts and monitor trends to support long-term planning  

• Write clear, concise, and effective staff reports to communicate complex financial information to City leadership and the public 

• Prepare and present budget reports and other financial information for internal and external stakeholders 

System Implementation and Innovation 

• Take ownership of the City’s new budget software system and the development of the online and PDF versions of the Adopted Operating and CIP budgets  

• Streamline and improve the City’s Monthly Financial Report  

• Play a key role in the planning and implementation of the City’s future ERP system replacement 

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative processes 

 Financial Reporting & Capital Management 

• Oversee capital asset budgeting and coordinate with departments on project funding and tracking  

• Analyze financial and operational data to provide insights and recommendations to executive leadership 

• Develop tools and reports to improve transparency and decision-making across the organization 

Leadership & Collaboration 

• Supervise and mentor direct report(s), fostering ownership, accountability, and professional growth  

• Serve as a trusted advisor to the Finance Director and senior management 

• Coordinate cross-departmental efforts and facilitate a collaborative, service-oriented budget process 

Communication & Training 

• Deliver clear and effective presentations to staff, senior management, and City Council on budgetary reports, issues, policies, and financial data  

• Lead cross-departmental training efforts on budget systems, financial procedures, and reporting tools 

• Translate complex financial concepts inaccessible information for non-financial audiences  

The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for the position of Casual Facilities Maintenance Worker.

DEFINITION
Under direction performs skilled work in several trades in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment on City owned buildings.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are assigned a variety of tasks in the building trades. Although the work requires the use of journey worker’s tools and the ability to perform operations in several of the crafts, the skills required in any one field is normally less that would be required of a journey worker in that field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Responsibilities including but not limited to)

• Painting (patch holes, drywall taping and finishing, caulking, interior painting and exterior painting)
• Electrical (replace light bulbs, ballast, switches and outlets)
• Plumbing (repair/replace mixing valves and stems, plunge toilets and use power augers)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Building trade methods, materials and equipment; safe work practices and estimate job material, duration and cost.

Ability to:  Work efficiently with others, log/record work completed, climb ladders, Use the required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; and work independently.

Skills:  Operate a variety of power tools such as paint sprayer, sanders and pressure washers, mixers, drills and grinders.

License:  Possession of a Class C driver’s license issued by the DMV.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is obtained from two years’ experience in general building maintenance work including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting. Typically, sufficient education is required to read and follow detailed instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all those contacted in the course of work; to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; twist upper body and to sit and stand for moderate periods of time. Ability to walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, and squat for long periods of time and to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighters or Firefighter/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units.  Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.
