Applications are being accepted for the position of Park Maintenance Worker part-time/hourly) with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

Schedule: 30 hours per week, including both weekdays and weekends, select holidays, and evenings.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of an appropriate valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

This employment opportunity is excellent for a well-organized “people person” seeking some summer work experience and getting exposure to government and specifically to work in the Community Development Department.

The primary responsibility of this position is to help with document scanning, managing mail outs, answering phones, data entry and document preparation. THE POSITION

The City of Daly City is seeking a dynamic and experienced Economic Development Program Manager to join the Office of the City Manager. This new position is an opportunity to shape and lead innovative programs that enhance the local economy, reimagine and activate the environment and attract, retain and support businesses in the Daly City community.

The Economic Development Program Manager plays a vital role in fostering relationships with the business community, developing and implementing economic development strategies, all while providing direct support to meet business needs. The diverse range of work in partnership building, policy development, long-term visioning, program implementation, data analysis and research provides an exciting and fulfilling opportunity.

As a top priority for the City, the Economic Development Program Manager will ensure the City addresses the needs of local businesses and provides opportunities for their success, as well as identify new businesses to enhance the City’s overall economic health. This also includes regular outreach to local businesses to offer assistance through referrals to state and federal programs, and strategic planning for expansion approval. This position must create and maintain partnerships with multiple associations community organizations and State and Federal re-sources.

DEFINITION

Under the direction of the City Manager or their designee, the Economic Development Program Manager develops, coordinates, and implements the City’s economic development programs and related activities; works with commercial and retail businesses, developers and property owners and managers on potential opportunity sites, assists applicants and business in their dealings with the City, initiates key economic activities based on the City’s General Plan, provides economic data to inform key city policy decisions; manages Grant funding opportunities for economic development, develops and implements marketing, branding and outreach activities for attraction and retention of businesses in Daly City and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Develop and update the City’s Economic Development and Business Strategy and develop an action plan to implement the strategy and economic development programs on a citywide basis.
• Manage grant and funding opportunities to support economic initiatives; oversee administration of economic development grants and contracts.
• Develop financing sources for various programs through communication and negotiation with agencies of the State and Federal government, the private sector and nonprofit foundations.
• Facilitate the attraction, retention, growth and success of Daly City businesses through active engagement, business assistance, provision of information, marketing, and outreach.
• Conduct feasibility assessments for establishing Business Improvement District (BID)
• Oversee and coordinate Economic Development events and festivals.
• Serve as Primary Liaison to the Small Business Commission
• Administer Regulatory Business Programs
• Participate in business conferences related to Economic Development
• Be active in the real estate environment to track real estate trends and work with developers and property owners or property managers to identify and evaluate opportunity sites that are vacant or likely to change hands
• Continuously valuate and review economic development program goals, objectives, and strategies and recommend changes to programs, policies or procedures that will facilitate ongoing success to attract and recruit new businesses to activate and fill vacant commercial spaces.
• Identify, develop and analyze data to assess trends, issues and opportunities affecting businesses and the City in order to effectively support local businesses.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce and effectively maintain the relationship between the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce, and other private and public organizations related to business and economic development.
• Create and foster effective business relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate business attraction and retention that will support the economic development and growth of the City.
• Identify and recommend revisions to ordinances and policies that may hinder business operations to improve economic conditions, functionality and aesthetics.
• Assist applicants, business representatives and developers in dealings with the City on the entitlement and building permit approval process and other needs.
• May assist in the recommendation of policies and programs pertaining to the fiscal and economic development of the City.
• Prepare reports and make presentations to business and community groups, City Commissions and Boards, City Council and the public.
• May prepare and administer the budget for Economic Development Program.
• Supervise and train one Economic Development Program Specialist
• Professionally and effectively represent the City of Daly City in developing relationships between the City and representatives of private sector development opportunities, business community and city staff.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principals, issues and practices of economic and commercial development, redevelopment, land use planning and permitting, business retention, public policy and business development including best practices, marketing/marketing research; statistical analysis and research methods and the sources of information and data pertaining to economic development, business retention; evaluation and analysis of pro formas; the State of California Redevelopment Law; private sector development techniques; Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning economic development activity in urban areas, real estate, public land acquisition, redevelopment and land use; Federal and State Grants regulations, Grant writing and grant administration oversight and implementation experience; Effective methods of gaining consensus and building support for objectives; Principles and practices of organization, administration, budget and supervision.

Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Effectively and professionally represent the City to the business community and the public, Research and communicate economic trends, including vacancy rates, lease rates, and land values, Interpret and explain laws and regulations related to zoning regulations, land acquisition, and economic development, research proposals, evaluate alternatives, and make sound recommendations within established policy guidelines, Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs, adapt, change and be receptive to new direction and shifting City priorities. Understand and apply interpersonal skills to work effectively with the local business community, internal partners and external partners. Plan, prioritize, communicate, delegate and monitor a variety of concurrent projects. Analyze and synthesize data and complex information; write comprehensive reports. Supervise, train, and evaluate one employee. Effectively prepare grants, written reports and recommendations; prepare and present reports at public meetings; deal effectively with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, City officials, local commissions; provide strong administrative, fiscal management and policy analysis skills; be professional, respond to phone and electronic correspondence in a timely manner to the public and city employees, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education: Graduation from college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Planning, Public Administration or a related field.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience and demonstrated proficiency in economic development, real estate financing, commercial real estate, redevelopment, or planning, including two years of supervisory experience. Working knowledge of California planning law and practice is desirable.

License: Possession of a valid California Class C California Drivers License.

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. • Monitor the swimming pool and enforce safety regulations.

GENERAL INFO

Under general supervision, the Service Desk staff provides essential support to the San Bruno RAC by performing front desk operations, assisting members and visitors, and supporting daily facility functions. This temporary, part-time position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves delivering excellent customer service, processing memberships and program registrations, handling payments, and providing information about facility programs and policies. Service Desk staff may also perform facility attendant duties and assist with other tasks as assigned to ensure the smooth operation, safety, and cleanliness of the facility.

• Provide accurate information about RAC rules, policies, and services to ensure a safe and positive experience for all patrons.
• Monitor access to the facility and help ensure members and guests follow RAC guidelines.
• Address patron questions or concerns and escalate issues to supervisors when necessary.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional service desk area.
• Assist with distributing program information, schedules, and promotional materials.
• Support daily administrative tasks including account updates, data entry, and record keeping.
• Work collaboratively with other RAC staff to ensure smooth daily operations of the facility.
• Assist other RAC teams (Facility Attendants, Programs, Aquatic) and assist with other tasks as assigned to support the overall operation of the RAC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. This provision may be waived if applicant is under the age of 18.
• One year of experience in a job-related field is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Provide friendly, professional, and responsive customer service.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with patrons, staff, and supervisors.
• Operate computer systems and process memberships, registrations, and payments accurately.
• Stay organized and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced front desk environment.

The Summer Learning Challenge is a summer library program that encourages kids, teens and adults to read or listen to books in the summer. The Challenge is a fun, interactive program for the whole family that includes free book giveaways, activities, raffles, and prizes for kids ages 0-18. The program starts on June 1 and runs through the end of August.

We are looking for enthusiastic high school interns to support Library staff with activities both at the libraries and at summer outreach sites throughout the City of Redwood City to promote and support the Summer Learning Challenge. The interns will be responsible for planning and delivering library programs, providing them with opportunities where their voices are elevated and valued.

Example of Duties: Under the supervision of a Librarian perform various duties as assigned for the operation of the Summer Learning Challenge. Duties may include, assist with planning and delivering programs for kids and teen, serve lunch an lead activities during the lunch at the Library service, register children and families up in the Summer Learning Challenge and record statistical data, staff outreach events at local school and community sites.

Building Attendant I/II

The Belmont Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for part-time Building Attendants. Building Attendants provide operational supervision of facilities during the absence of full-time staff.

Building Attendant I - This is the entry level class in the Building Attendant series.  Incumbents in this class work under close supervision.  As experience is gained, incumbents may be granted more independence of action under established guidelines.

Building Attendant II - This is the journey level class in the Building Attendant series. Incumbents are expected to work independently in the absence of close supervision.

About the City

The City of Half Moon Bay is a Bay Area coastal community of approximately 12,500 residents and is located 25 miles south of San Francisco. The City is governed by a five-member elected City Council and utilizes the council-manager form of government. The City Council appoints a City Manager who is responsible for the oversight of daily operations and provides leadership for the City’s programs. The City currently employs 40 full-time employees in the following departments: City Manager’s Office, Administrative Services and Finance, Community Development, Public Works, and Communications/ City Clerk. The City also contracts Public Safety with San Mateo County Sheriff's Department.

The City and surrounding Coastside are a thriving agricultural, fishing, tourism, and recreational destination. There is a rich culture of diverse traditions and multi-generational families who have lived in Half Moon Bay for well over 100 years. About the Position

The Public Works Department is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern with an interest in engineering, project management, and public service. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in local government operations and civil engineering under general supervision and mentorship from professional staff.

The selected intern will assist with a variety of projects and ongoing assignments, which may include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects, including design and construction

• Supporting engineering project managers with clerical, administrative, and technical tasks

• Researching and analyzing programs and initiatives

• Updating internal procedures and policies

• Creating and editing CAD maps, designs, and standards (AutoCAD)

• Participating in field data collection, investigations, and analysis

• Researching development, zoning, and land use-related issues

• Performing engineering support services

• Drafting and editing reports

• Providing customer service

• Attending departmental and community meetings

• Opportunity to present a report to the City Council

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education & Experience

• Some completed coursework toward an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is desired but not required.

Knowledge of:

• Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

• Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop)

• AutoCAD

• Local government operations (preferred)

Ability to:

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

• Work cooperatively with City staff

• Perform analytical work and prepare clear, concise reports

• Use tact and discretion in public and professional interactions

• Plan, organize, and complete projects on time

• Interpret and apply administrative and departmental policies
