About the Position

The Engineering Division administers the permitting program for equipment and operations that emit air pollutants in the Air District’s jurisdiction and provides technical support to internal and external entities with issues related to permitting and permitted facilities.

Beyond specific permitting work, some of the important programs and projects in which the Engineering Division are actively engaged include but not limited to:

• Verification of emissions inventories
• Database development & testing, including user interfaces
• Data management
• Emissions modeling
• General technical support of Air District programs

Under general supervision, the Air Quality Specialist will perform a variety of duties in support of Engineering Division programs. Duties include but are not limited to processing permit applications, handling permit renewal tasks, data management (extracting, organizing, validating, maintaining), calculating emissions, drafting & updating program documentation (e.g., policies
 

There are vacant Air Quality Specialist positions in the following areas.

• Two (2) positions would be assigned to the backup generator and remediation (e.g., soil vapor extraction, sub-slab depressurization) programs. 
  • Staff would manage and process permit applications from a high-volume category. The work would involve managing assigned applications, documenting the evaluation following standard procedures, meeting timelines, communicating with applicants, and recommending a permit decision.
  • Other duties include but are not limited to handling permit renewal tasks, maintaining documentation, recommending & implementing program improvements, managing data & documentation, updating templates including emission calculations, providing technical support, participating with rule development efforts, training staff, and performing other specialized work, as assigned.

• One (1) position would be assigned to the Title V program. 
  • Staff may be assigned to process Title V application types such as initial permits, renewals, minor revisions, administrative amendments, closures, and reclassifications. The work would involve managing assigned applications, documenting the basis of the permit, meeting timelines, communicating with applicants, collaborating with Air District staff, and tracking the approval process.
  • Other duties include but are not limited to reporting to government agencies, managing data, tracking program metrics, maintaining documentation, analyzing program data metrics, updating templates, training, contributing to the development of system tools, participating with rule development for Air District’s Title V rule (Regulation 2, Rule 6), and performing other specialized work, as assigned.

This position is not eligible to be fully remote. 

Position Summary

Under direction of the Superintendent of Facility and Equipment and/or Chief Laborer, performs general labor and janitorial duties for routine maintenance and repair of District buildings, roadways and facilities.

Essential Responsibilities

•  Sets up lane closures and diversions for crews working on roadway.
• Cleans and repairs roadways, installs pavement markers and signs.
• Cleans drains on Bridge roadway, approaches and anchorages; sidewalks on Bridge and approaches, drainage ditches, parking lots, anchorages and pylons, shops, public restrooms, painters' locker room, bus stops, vault and toll booths; and picks up garbage.
• Assists Carpenters, Cement Masons and Gardeners in performing their duties.
• Assists other maintenance crafts in removing asphalt pavement or concrete, excavation and backfilling and repair of asphalt pavement and concrete structures.
• Moves office furniture as required.
• Drives equipment.
• Landscaping and trimming/cutting trees.
• Operates chainsaw, weed eater, leaf blower, lawnmower, street sweeper and scrubber.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.

Position Summary

The Bridge Patrol Officer works in a fast paced and dynamic 24/7 department with 36 team members to ensure the efficient and effective daily operation and security of the Golden Gate Bridge and associated facilities. Responsibilities include critical infrastructure security, roadway and visitor safety, crisis intervention and suicide prevention, emergency roadway services, traffic management, parking enforcement, revenue collection, and customer service.  The Bridge Patrol Officer serves as a customer contact and organizational ambassador for persons who drive, walk and bicycle the Golden Gate Bridge on a daily basis.

Essential Responsibilities

• Patrols the Bridge and surrounding areas using patrol cars, bicycles, and motorized scooters for the purpose of providing security, suicide prevention/apprehension, and to provide assistance to the public
• Responds to all incidents on the Bridge and its approaches, such as accidents, attempted suicides, body retrieval from the South Tower moat and other areas near the Bridge
• Responds to medical emergencies and first- aid calls
• Enforces District ordinances and regulations on the Bridge and surrounding areas and on other District property
• Conducts preliminary investigations of motor vehicle accidents, suicides, and any other reportable incidents that occur on the Bridge or surrounding area
• Checks the District buildings for physical security
• Coordinates with the California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies when needed
• Assists in the apprehension of possible suicides
• Assists with traffic and crowd control
• Performs traffic control and issues parking citations
• Operates tower elevators and performs driving duties as assigned
• Maintains positive public relations and performs preliminary investigations of complaints from the public

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Day Shift:               $56.32 per hour
Swing Shift:           $56.32 per hour + 10% differential pay
Graveyard Shift:    $56.32 per hour + 15% differential pay
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.

1) Public Services Program Coordinator – Community Libraries

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, the Public Services Program Coordinator plans and implements projects to strengthen customer service, safety, staffing, and operational consistency across San Mateo County’s 13 community libraries. The Coordinator will help to develop standards and training, coordinate safety & security measures, and track operational metrics to improve service delivery.

2) Training & Development / Volunteer Program Coordinator – Human Resources Division

The Training / Volunteer Program Coordinator is a project-focused role within San Mateo County Libraries’ Human Resources Division that manages the full lifecycle of staff learning and volunteer engagement. Under the direction of the HR Manager, this position builds, coordinates, and maintains the annual training calendar, coordinates volunteer intake and placements, ensures compliance and accurate records in our training and development system and in our volunteer management system, and uses dashboards, surveys, and reports to drive continuous improvement and recognition across the system.

The Ideal Candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

• Design, implement, and manage impactful programs that strengthen public service delivery (Public Services Program Coordinator) or support volunteer engagement and staff training and development initiatives (Training & Development / Volunteer Program Coordinator).

• In collaboration with library leadership, develop, document, and implement customer service standards and procedures for community library locations.
• Serve as the coordinator for Customer Care operations; track data, establish response standards, and monitor compliance.
• Review, update, and oversee public services standards and associated staff training materials.
• Assist with the inventory, management, and coordination of emergency equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate safety and security protocols, including incident reporting guidelines, tracking systems, and follow-up procedures.
• Work closely with the Training & Development Coordinator to develop and deliver training programs to ensure excellent customer service delivery and response to patron incidents.
• Review, update, and maintain weekend rotation schedules and staffing plans to ensure coverage and consistency across locations.
• Assist with various short-term public services projects related to customer service, service delivery, safety & security, and strategic plan implementation.
• Monitor and report on project metrics and operational data; recommend improvements.
• Prepare project reports, recommendations, and training documentation for the Deputy Director and library leadership.

Training & Development / Volunteer Program Coordinator

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Collaborate with leadership to develop and coordinate the annual training plan and calendar; Identify, coordinate, implement, schedule, and track staff training and summarize results in quarterly reports.
• Support professional development programs such as LEAD, mentorship, and conference participation; maintain related documentation and budgets.
• Recruit, screen, and place volunteers in coordination with Community Library Managers and Volunteer Coordinators.
• Maintain accurate records in a volunteer management system; monitor engagement and retention through regular check-ins and reports.
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver staff and volunteer recognition and development events, including Staff Development Day and Volunteer Recognition Day.
• Co-chair the Volunteer Workgroup; lead meetings, track initiatives, and support systemwide volunteer outreach and onboarding.
• Compile quarterly dashboards and summaries; identify trends and recommend improvements to strengthen engagement and program effectiveness.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application
