Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This position requires the ability to work independently while receiving direction from a supervisor, as well as the capacity to train, oversee, and collaborate effectively with volunteers and older adults. Strong attention to detail is essential, including the ability to maintain accurate records and submit documentation as required. Proficiency with computers, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Upon hire, the candidate must successfully obtain a State Food Handler Safety Certificate and pass all required background checks. A bilingual pay differential may be available for candidates fluent in identified languages.  Must be available Monday-Friday 10:00am-2:00pm.

Recreation Program Specialist Example Duties:

• Follow reservation protocol/procedure for patrons.
• Review menu provided by caterer, submit nutritional component breakdown to County for grant compliance, and prepare flyers for patron.
• Submit documentation/information associated with County nutrition grant to supervisor.
• Schedule and implement nutritional education for seniors and in-service training for staff and volunteers.
• Serve as liaison with caterer, grant provider and staff/volunteers.
• Implement food safety practices as outlined by the Health Department.
• Prior nutrition experience is desired, but not required. Training will be provided.

The San Mateo County Public Works Department is seeking an experienced Road Maintenance Manager with increasingly responsible experience in supervising the work of road maintenance or road construction crews. The Road Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises, through subordinate supervisors, the activities of several crews involved in the maintenance, repair and construction of County roads in an assigned area; and performs a variety of technical tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility.

The Road Maintenance Division of County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is responsible for routine and emergency repairs to over 315 miles of road surfaces, culverts, shoulders, drainage facilities, and roadside vegetation on roads within the public right-of-way of San Mateo County's unincorporated districts. There are multiple vacancies to be filled throughout the department. 

The position is located at the Grant Corporation Yard, 752 Chestnut Street in Redwood City and will oversee either the Bayside maintenance crews or the Coastside maintenance crews.

 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, organize, direct and supervise road maintenance and construction activities for an assigned area of responsibility.
• Review work orders and schedule personnel and equipment in accordance with job requirements.
• Investigate complaints of road and drainage conditions and direct repairs as necessary.
• Inspect and review work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with specifications and safety codes.
• Train maintenance personnel in proper methods of road, bridge, and drainage repair and construction and installation of traffic control devices.
• Train workers in and ensure compliance with safety practices and procedures.
• Recommend or initiate personnel actions, including promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures.
• Supervise the preparation of requisitions for all materials, parts, supplies and equipment.

• Assist in budget preparation and administration.
• Coach and mentor staff.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification: Possession and maintenance of a valid California Class A Commercial Driver License with tank vehicle endorsement.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience which includes supervising the work of crews engaged in road maintenance or road construction work.

Knowledge of:

• Methods and materials used in the maintenance, repair, construction and installation of roads, culverts, bridges, storm drains and traffic control devices.
• Operation, maintenance, capacities and limitations of road construction maintenance equipment.
• Use of standard hand and power tools.
• Standard carpentry and construction techniques.
• Methods of patching, surfacing, and resurfacing roads with bituminous materials.

Recreation Leader I/II
The City of Foster City is searching for talented, energetic, responsible individuals who are serious about having fun! If you can think on your feet and be a fun team player, this could be the position for you! As a Recreation Leader, you’ll be responsible for implementing quality youth and teen programs and providing a safe environment for our participants. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position limited to approximately 20 hours per week and 980 hours in a fiscal year. Summer Camps
Candidates must commit to working for the entire Summer (June 15, 2026 - August 8, 2026). The Vibe Teen Center
We are looking for Recreation Leaders to assist with supervision, lead recreational activities, supervise rentals, and plan special events for teens. This position will start in June and Recreation Leaders must be able to work on a Friday or work a weekend shift each week. Work hours will vary, but typically will be from:

School Year Schedule: Positions are limited.

• Monday - Thursday 3:00pm-6:00pm
• Fridays 3:00pm-9:00pm

Recreation Leader I: Completion of eighth grade. No previous experience required. Volunteer or paid experience with groups of children is desirable.

Recreation Leader II: Completion of the ninth grade. Experience as a participant in a variety of recreation activities. Some experience in group leadership is desirable.

Special Requirements 
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 25 lbs.); complete forms and reports; ability to set-up and coordinate activities; remain calm and use good judgment in difficult and emergency situations; work flexible hours. Physical strength and stamina will be required in some positions to perform demonstrations and leads activities. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration 

• Certificates: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Course or equivalent (including adult, child infant CPR, and Standard First Aid) or ability to obtain at the beginning of employment.
• All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

The City of Menlo Park is hiring Recreation Specialists to support City-operated Summer Camp programs serving children ages 4.5 through 13 years old for programs running June 15th through August 14th, 2026.

Under general supervision, Recreation Specialists provide direct supervision of participants and assist with age-appropriate recreational, enrichment, and physical activities in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and City policies. This position requires active engagement with children, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.

Schedule

The Vehicle and Equipment Manager, under the direction of the Road Services Deputy Director, plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and operations of the Vehicle and Equipment Services section of the Public Works Department, including all aspects of automotive and equipment operations, such as preventative maintenance programs, accounting and equipment management systems, and Capital Improvement plans related to plant renovations and fleet replacement; and perform related duties as assigned.

The Vehicle and Equipment Services Section maintains, inspects, services, and repairs County motor vehicles including school and other buses, trucks, equipment, Sheriff's Office vehicles, and motor pool vehicles. Our service and repair stations are located in Redwood City and San Mateo.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.
• Complete Required Documentation: Accurately complete and submit report cards, skills sheets, attendance records, and any other required documentation on time.

Currently, the City of Pacifica Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department is recruiting for Child Care Aides and Child Care Associate Teachers to join our Child Care Team! Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $19.50 - $25.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting staff in implementing youth recreation activities, sports, arts, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities
• Maintaining discipline, site safety and observe the overall physical and emotional well-being of the program participants
• Interacting with parents, participants, school district and city employees in a professional manner
• Attending staff meetings and in-service trainings as required
