What You’ll Do

The Senior Engineer supervises and participates in the conduct of complicated engineering planning, design, and investigation activities.

Some duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervise and participate in the development of designs, plans, specifications, and estimates for the construction of public works projects related to the WWTP.
• Coordinate with contractors, construction managers, construction inspectors, and the design engineers to resolve issues during construction.
• Coordinate with the staff at the WWTP especially the Plant Manager, Operations Superintendent, and Maintenance Superintendent to make sure the WWTP operations and maintenance needs are incorporated into the projects as well as the impacts to ongoing operations during construction are considered and addressed.
• Inspect project sites to assist in solution of difficult problems; interpret specifications and City policy and make change orders.
• Review plans for construction prepared by private engineers.
• Check computations and specified materials for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Upgrade City standard plans and specifications; review subdivision and parcel maps.
• Serve as staff to a variety of City commissions, boards, and committees on public works engineering matters.
• Prepare periodic project status reports.
• Prepare various applications for state and federal grants.
• Review and make recommendations on technical reports and studies.
• Assist in the preparation of the capital improvement plan and budget.
• Participate in the selection and supervision of private professional engineers for the development of plans, specifications, studies, and reports.
• Coordinate engineering-related activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.

Who You Are

• You possess knowledge of principles and practices of engineering; modern methods and techniques used in the design and construction of a wide variety of public works engineering projects; modern developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding the assigned areas of assignment; applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to design and construction in the area of assignment; and principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.

• After receiving professional engineer's license, four years’ experience in professional engineering work in areas of assignment.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a professional civil engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.

What You’ll Do
The Assistant/Associate Transportation Planner performs professional transportation planning work; conduct and review transportation impact studies; prepare plans, studies, and reports; and to do related work as required. 

Assistant Transportation Planner - The Assistant Transportation Planner is an entry level class in the transportation planning series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Transportation Planner by the performance of the less complex tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including assignments in the fields of multi-modal transportation associated projects, master plans, specific plans, policies, and programs. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by higher level employees. However, as experience is acquired, the employee performs with increasing independence. Since this class is typically used as a continued training class, employees may have only limited work experience. This classification receives general supervision from the Parking Manager, or a higher-level position.

Associate Transportation Planner - The Associate Transportation Planner is a journey level class that performs duties relating to multi-modal transportation and associated projects, master plans, specific plans, policies, and programs. This class is distinguished from the Assistant Transportation Planner by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including complex plans review, policy development, and advance report preparation. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment exercised on diverse and specialized assignments. It is further distinguished by its major program management responsibilities. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Review and analyze land development projects including but not limited to VMT, TDM, LOS, parking compliance and other transportation related issues.

• Assist the day-to-day operations of the City’s 3,000+ on and off-street public parking spaces in downtown San Mateo along with public parking spaces in other commercial areas such as 25th Avenue. Duties may include customer service for commercial parking areas, ordering parts for paid parking equipment, evaluating monthly permit parking programs and making policy recommendations, ensuring that signage in restricted parking areas is in good condition and correct for the restriction needed.

• Evaluate and make recommendations on technical aspects of transit planning, capital, or operating projects involving various transit modes such as rail, auto traffic, bicycle and pedestrian transportation and paratransit parking.

• Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and operational actions related to effective parking management, including periodic review of parking related policy issues such as rates, time limits, enforcement hours, loading zones, and other issues.

• Assist or lead in The City’s Residential Parking Permit Program and downtown parking permit program. Duties may include responding to resident inquiries, evaluating new RPPP program area applications, conducting parking occupancy studies, assisting in permit data analysis, establish new public/private lease agreements and participating in community meetings. 

• Provide recommendations resulting from the analysis of alternative transportation system improvements; forecast and prepare transportation capital improvement program project lists.

The Judicial Council of California is accepting applications for the position of Senior Fiscal Analyst in the State Budget unit of the Budget Services Sacramento office.

The Senior Fiscal Analyst provides advanced, complex, and specialized analytical and technical budget support to the Judicial Council Facilities Services Capital Outlay program. This position provides fiscal oversight for capital outlay projects and manages the ongoing project close-out activities. Fiscal oversight responsibilities include analyzing and preparing statewide budget reports for management, controlling capital outlay appropriations, reviewing and coding requisitions, preparing and reviewing Capital Outlay budget change proposals (COBCPs), reviewing the updated five-year capital outlay plan, and managing the bond sale process. The Position

The Traffic and Lighting Technician performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of traffic control signage, traffic signal equipment, and street lights; and guides the work of and trains other maintenance personnel, and performs related work as required.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Guide and participate in the work of other maintenance personnel.  Ability to set-up work zone safety and prepare traffic control work plans.

The Menlo Park Police department is an operation in which the patrol officers enjoy communicating and building relationships with individuals within the community. We embrace a true community connection and commitment with participants on all sides. Rather than designating certain officers to focus on solving community problems, Menlo Park will charge all police personnel with proactive community policing responsibilities. We ask our officers to seek innovative solutions to local problems, respond to citizen complaints of violations and provide excellent customer service.

Our officers continually strive to be the best and achieve high standards; they receive a 5% incentive for achieving their Intermediate POST certificate and 10% incentive for achieving their advanced certificate.

The City has new desktop and laptop computers in place for employees. The City already has Crime Analysis and Traffic Analysis software systems in place. A new handheld citations system for traffic has recently been launched. The City also implemented a citywide GIS system, document imaging system, and Intranet, which are available to all staff members. Additionally, we have placed laptops in all patrol cars in order to facilitate timely report writing and response to calls for service.

The City of Menlo Park is currently accepting applications for lateral Police Officers that are motivated, well-trained professionals who can meet the challenge of a fast paced, multi-tasking law enforcement environment.

The Hiring and Retention Incentive Program pays new, eligible Police Officers who are Lateral Police Officers up to a total amount of $40,000 (See details under benefits).

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department commenced operations on January 13, 2019. The Fire Department is proud to serve the Cities of Belmont, Foster City and San Mateo as a Joint Powers Authority. The Department collectively has ten engines and two trucks operating out of nine fire stations.  There are 164 full-time employees assigned to one of the following divisions:  Administration, Community Risk Reduction, Training, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Operations and EMS.  The Department serves nearly 164,000 residents daily with a day-time population around 230,000.   Additionally, the department participates in a mutual aid program throughout the county, helping to serve a million people daily.
