San Mateo County Health's Public Health Policy & Planning (PHPP) Division has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinarian to work in Animal Control and Licensing as a member of the team.
 
The current vacancy is extra help part time 20-hours per week in the Public Health, Policy and Planning Division. The position is stationed in San Mateo, CA, but will travel/drive throughout the County to perform duties of the position.
 
Scheduling is flexible. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the organization. This position is a hybrid of remote work as well as field-based at clinics.
 
The Veterinary Wellness Program provides veterinary services to the pets of the unhoused, those in transitional housing, and very low-income San Mateo County residents who are receiving services from San Mateo County. This position works with San Mateo County Health and cross collaborates with other programs within the County. Technical expertise, as well as knowledge of veterinary public health practices, are preferred.
 
San Mateo County is unique in that most of our homeless shelters allow residents to bring their pets with them, not just an emotional support or service animal. One of the barriers for homeless people to get into a shelter with their pets is that their pet must be current on their vaccinations. Within 10 days of a new resident moving into a shelter with a pet, the County veterinarian will meet with the owner and their pet to provide a general exam, the necessary vaccinations and flea control. This position will visit various sites throughout the County on a regular basis, providing vaccines, flea control, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and general exams. In addition, the Veterinarian will travel to various homeless encampments to provide these services and to offer and encourage spaying and neutering of the pets.
 
When pets need additional care, this position will coordinate with local veterinary clinics we contract with for services. These contracts allow us to provide spay and neuter services, dental services, and many other procedures that the pet owner would not otherwise be able to afford. These vital veterinary services keep pets from being relinquished to animal shelters and provides peace of mind for the pet owner. In addition, our veterinary program partners with our Street Medicine Program to provide health care services to the pet owners, which advances San Mateo County’s One Health Concept.
 
This Veterinarian position will be providing technical/subject matter expertise on issues relating to the spread of zoonotic, epizootic, and exotic diseases, as well as consulting on cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals. The position will also act as a liaison between the veterinary community, Veterinary Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and residents of the County.
 
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide lead direction to staff responsible for following prescribed treatment and maintaining treatment records for animals treated.
• Ensure that the highest level of service and care are provided and that changes in animals’ conditions are recorded and properly addressed.
• Examine and evaluate animals, and perform veterinary medical treatments, including vaccinations and preventative treatment as appropriate. 
• Coordinate with local veterinarians and clinic/shelter professionals to arrange spay and neuter surgeries and medical procedures.
• Arrange for care at a contracted veterinary hospital for severely injured, sick or diseased animals and provides full orders for care.
• Establishes and maintains medical records and drug use logs to standards of veterinary practices.
• Ensure that records are in order and complete and prepare written reports as needed; ensures that all State and Federal laws, regulations, accepted standards, are adhered to. 
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of shelter animal health protocols, surgical procedures, and companion animal health issues.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with the staff, community, local veterinarians, State Veterinarian. 
• Assist in the monitoring of inventory and ordering of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
• Serve as technical/subject matter expert to answer questions from the County Health Officer, medical community and the general public regarding issues related to/involving animals—including but not limited to researching, recommending, implementing and/or maintaining measures to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases, epizootic diseases, exotic diseases and disease outbreaks. 
• Serve as a consultant in suspect cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals as well as complex issues deriving from animal bites.
• Review pertinent legislation, regulations, and policies to provide recommendations, especially with regards to vaccination of domestic animals, rabies vaccine exemptions, quarantine/euthanasia of animals exposed to rabies.
• Disseminate relevant information to the local veterinary community as well as to residents of the county. 
• Assist with emergencies and disaster services.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 
Ideal candidate will possess:
•       Experience working one – two years as a Veterinarian.

• Experience in diagnosing and treating disease, illness, and injuries of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals. 
• Ability to test animals for disease and administer vaccines.
• Ability to evaluate condition and coordinate maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Ability to help ensure the safe storage, access, and use of medications.
• Ability to develop and provide guidance on sanitary protocols, feeding, preventative medicine, and general care to promote the health of all animals.
• Ability to research and prepare medical reports for guidance of management upon request.
• Ability to write grant proposals for funding.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and residents of the community.
• Attend meetings and other meetings as requested or required.
• Obtain continuing education as required and be committed to staying up-to-date technically with industry best practices and applying learned knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner and contract providers.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

San Mateo Medical Center and its clinics are currently seeking well-qualified candidates for Physical Therapist II to provide outpatient and/or inpatient services at San Mateo Medical Center - Main Campus in San Mateo, CA. These positions would provide outpatient and/or inpatient services physical therapy evaluations and treatments for a variety of orthopedic and neurologic conditions.

Physical Therapists manage patients with a wide range of diagnoses, chronic and acute, and are part of a dynamic treatment team. In addition, Physical Therapists identify patient challenges and develop goals and a care plan with reasonable outcomes for the individual's life/work settings. Daily opportunities are created in this assignment through the variety of illnesses/injuries seen in our patient population.

Physical Therapists work at SMMC as part of a County rehabilitation program, which provides evaluation, education and treatment. The therapeutic program at SMMC is oriented toward inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic problems while providing therapy to inpatients with a need for long or short-term rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of one year of work experience providing care in an outpatient setting with an interest in covering inpatient when the census justifies. Ability to work weekends and/or holiday coverage when necessary is also strongly preferred. New or recent graduates with independent outpatient physical therapy work experience or internships are encouraged to apply.

The City of Menlo Park is seeking engineering professionals, with exceptional technical and project management skills, for Senior Civil Engineer positions in the Public Works Department (Department) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Division. The Senior Engineer will lead capital improvement projects under the supervision of the City Engineer or Public Works Director. The CIP team delivers projects for City owned facilities including streets, buildings, storm and domestic water, and parks. The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for executing CIP projects from planning through completion and managing assigned staff.

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of Planning and Principal Planners, manages projects and performs work tasks to support the department’s work program, which includes service and operations planning, short- and long-range planning, facilities planning, and compliance reporting for all three of the District’s operating divisions.

 

This position advances the District’s business interests by analyzing complex operating conditions and recommending detailed changes, producing reports and planning studies, researching and interpreting relevant regulations, and meeting with internal staff and external stakeholders on a wide variety of topics. Work may require the use of specialized software, such as GIS and Hastus, and travel to District facilities and off-site meeting locations. May supervise and assign work to Associate Planner(s) and Planner(s) as directed.

 

Essential Responsibilities

• Research, compile, analyze, and interpret complex technical, demographic, economic, financial, and other statistical data for the development of transit plans and projects, such as the District's transit service plan, transit capital improvement program, and proposed bridge toll or transit fare changes.
• Monitor, forecast, and evaluate transit service performance and patterns of bridge traffic, parking, and transit service patronage and recommend changes where necessary.
• Prepare or supervise preparation of routine evaluations of the efficiency and effectiveness of bus and ferry routes, schedules, major transit facilities, and bus stops. Recommend specific improvements based on these evaluations.
• Prepare or oversee preparation of major compliance documents, including the Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP), National Transit Database (NTD), Title VI, and other federal and state reports, including the organization of internal stakeholder meetings to provide input on these reports.
• Prepare official recommendations and informational reports for consideration by the public, the District’s Board of Directors, and technical staff of the District or other agencies and groups.
• Prepare or assist with verbal presentations to staff groups, public groups, and the boards of local municipalities and advise District personnel on matters related to interactions with these groups.
• Support and coordinate staff responsibilities regarding other internal and external coordination meetings as directed. May participate in public meetings and hearings.
• Act, when directed, as liaison between the District and other agencies on planning matters by reviewing outside reports, attending meetings, drafting correspondence, and providing technical information to public agencies and other transit groups.
• Develop and coordinate changes to the District’s routes and fares in the Clipper and Genfare systems.
• Provide staff support to the District’s public advisory committees, including attendance at off-site meetings and/or meetings that occur outside normal business hours.
• Formulate short- and long-range plans or recommendations on transit services; coordinate service planning, detour, and bus stop issues with local jurisdictions when needed.
• Study and research physical characteristics of areas served by Golden Gate Transit; assess conditions of roads and related features; determine the physical and operational feasibility of transit routes and bus stops.
• Assess feasibility of transit service changes and develop plans for implementation. May use Hastus scheduling software as appropriate.
• Analyze possible environmental impacts that could result from proposed service, operations, or pricing changes to the District’s transit or bridge operations.
• Obtain encroachment or other permits as necessary to address the District’s business needs.
• Perform bridge traffic or transit demand projections and studies based on available travel data, community surveys, U.S. census data, and development reports from cities served by the District.
• Conduct geographical and demographic analyses of existing and potential District customers using socioeconomic data from passenger or other market research surveys. May use geographic information system (GIS) software as appropriate.
• Develop, coordinate, and conduct bus and ferry passenger surveys; analyze data from those surveys and prepare related reports.
• Review environmental impact reports and statements and project plans within the Golden Gate Transit service area and assess potential impacts to the District’s operations.
• Support environmental reviews related to the District’s transit projects.
• Research and interpret applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to transportation, planning, or environmental permit activities.
• May supervise and assign work to Associate Planner(s) and Planner(s) as directed.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
• Know and follow health and safety rules and safe working practices applicable to the position.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health and the environment. The Air District accomplishes this goal through regulation of industrial facilities and various outreach and incentive programs designed to encourage clean air choices. 

The Air District's jurisdiction encompasses all of seven counties - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Napa, and portions of two others - southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma.
 
The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Air Quality Engineer I/II in the Air Quality Modeling and Analysis (AQMA) Section of the Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented vacancy position.
 
 DEFINITION
 
Under direction, performs professional engineering work in a variety of areas such as permit application evaluation, calculation of air pollutant emissions, toxic risk screening and health risk assessment evaluations, compliance audits and source testing; performs related work as assigned.
 
 DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
 
 Air Quality Engineer I is the entry-level class of this series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform a variety of routine air quality engineering duties while learning District policies and procedures and specialized air quality knowledge. With experience, the work becomes increasingly more diversified and difficult and requires increasing independence of judgment. This class is alternately staffed with Air Quality Engineer II and incumbents may progress to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications for the higher-level class.

Air Quality Engineer II is the journey level in this series. Incumbents perform a variety of difficult air quality engineering work and exercise a greater latitude of independent judgment. This class is distinguished from Senior Air Quality Engineer in that the latter is the specialist level and performs the more complex air quality engineering duties and provides lead direction to engineering staff.

About the Division

The Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division prepares comprehensive source emission inventories for the Bay Area and conducts air quality modeling at both regional and community scales. AIM prepares technical assessments that evaluate equity in air pollution exposures and health impacts in support of Air District programs. AIM coordinates and implements programs to improve and report estimates of emissions of criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and climate forcing pollutants. AIM assesses emissions, modeled concentrations, and exposures of toxic air contaminants, particulate matter, ozone and their precursors, to support targeted strategies that reduce impacts of air pollution both regionally and within communities, especially in impacted communities requiring action plans in accordance with Assembly Bill 617 (AB617). AIM reviews and provides guidance on environmental health risk assessments within environmental review documents prepared pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

THE POSITION

Tri-City is actively recruiting to fill a vacancy for Clinical Supervisor I within the Access to Care Team ("ATC") and the Therapeutic Community Garden Team (TCG). This position will be responsible for supervising and assisting with both Access to Care and the Therapeutic Community Garden. Additional duties include, planning, organizing and directing the work of clinical, professional, & technical staff & providing behavioral health services to individuals & families. The Clinical Supervisor I position will report to the Clinical Program Manager.

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Coordinate, supervise, and direct the clinical, operational and program activities, inclusive of unit personnel, on a day-to-day basis to meet unit objectives;

 

• Provide individual supervision, documentation review, urgent intake assessments, crisis assessments, assist Clinical Program Manager with trainings and meetings, ensuring Network Adequacy and processes and protocols are followed;

 

• Assist with the supervision, oversight and development of the Therapeutic Garden Program.

 

• Assist with data collection and board reports for the Therapeutic Garden Program and Assess to Care Department.

 

• Consult with Clinical Program Manager regarding program goals, activities, policies, and procedures; make recommendations on programmatic, clinical and administrative policies; regularly update program policies and procedures; and implement and enforce policies and procedures.

 

• Supervise, train, evaluate, and participate in the selection of student interns, subordinate clinical staff, Behavioral Health Specialists and Clinical Therapists I/II; and initiate and participate in personnel actions in accordance with the Agency’s human resources practices and procedures.

 

• Make or review decisions on difficult client assessment and casework matters; supervise the timely and accurate submission of activity logs of assigned staff; and review caseload and task/needs reports for accuracy and timely changes & other duties as assigned.
