The Department: 

The Purchasing Division resides in the City's Finance Department and maintains a "centralized purchasing system" that is responsible for all purchasing and contracting activity for supplies, materials, and equipment as well as general and professional services.  The Division also operates a Central Warehouse, with over 3,000 inventory items primarily to support the City's utility departments (Silicon Valley Power and the Water and Sewer Departments). The Division is also responsible for the disposition of surplus property and the City mailroom.

The Division will soon expand its warehouse operations with the opening of a second warehouse to support Silicon Valley Power’s infrastructure projects. This recruitment is to fill the Chief Storekeeper position that will manage operations at the current central warehouse, as the incumbent Chief Storekeeper will be transitioning over to the new warehouse.

The Position: 

The Chief Storekeeper is a classified position responsible for overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations, including:

• Oversee a wide variety of materials, supplies, and related equipment 
• Receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, tools, and equipment 
• Ensuring accurate inventory tracking and efficient material handling
• Providing direction to departments for orders of materials
• Supervising a team consisting of two Material Handlers and one Senior Materials Handler in the efficient requisition and issue of materials and supplies
• Obtaining quotes, preparing requisitions, and entering purchase orders in PeopleSoft in accordance with the City’s purchasing policies and guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory, communication, and organizational skills to ensure efficient, consistent, and service-oriented warehouse operations.

Minimum Qualifications

 • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED
 • Three (3) years of experience in storekeeping, warehousing or inventory control, at least one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory or lead capacity
 
Desirable Qualifications:
 • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Finance or related field is highly desirable
 
LICENSE
 Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Valley Water is seeking an Assistant Engineer I/II to join the Large Construction Projects Unit of the Water Utility Capital Division. The Assistant Engineer I/II, under direct supervision, performs a variety of civil engineering duties in the management of Valley Water construction projects. Purchasing & Consultant Contracts Services Unit (Position Code 79)

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for the position of Refuse Truck Driver II in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works department. Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties in the Solid Waste division, including maintenance, operating collection vehicles and refuse equipment operation. This job classification is represented by the Classified, Local 39 employee group; the probation period is 12 months.

Open positions may be filled as regular/full-time or seasonal/part-time.  Seasonal positions are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year and are unbenefited, and may become regular/full-time positions, dependent upon the future needs of the department.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Refuse Truck Driver II is the journey-level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and refuse collection tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Refuse Truck Driver in that the latter performs the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

This position receives general supervision from the Solid Waste division’s Public Services Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs general maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in refuse collection.
• Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Executive Assistant/Deputy District Clerk will be required to attend evening Board/Committee meetings. Meetings may be held in Los Altos or offsite.  This position is part of the General Manager’s office at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by two (2) years of college-level coursework in business or secretarial science and
• Three (3) years of responsible secretarial experience involving assisting executive management or a high-level officials with administrative duties.

Located in many remote areas of the Santa Cruz and Diablo Mountain ranges in the beautiful Santa Clara Valley, this unique opportunity as a new Valley Water Hydrographer I employee offers work assignment variability non-typical of other standard Hydrographer positions and long-term job fulfillment in a fun, relaxed atmosphere while offering a competitive salary/benefit package. The new position supports the allocated $2 million Hydrologic Data Measurement and Management Project within the Hydrology, Hydraulics, and Geomorphology Unit which provides basic modeling calibration Surface Water data for Valley Water’s Flood Control and Groundwater Recharge programs, and many other internal/external customers. This entry level Hydrographer I position is required to support continuing expansion of the current 210 location surface water monitoring network including new gages for SB88 water rights reporting, and Water Supply Operations requirements.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operating and maintaining stream/reservoir/precipitation/water temperature stations including installation, calibrating, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic dataloggers/sensors and radio telemetry.
• Performing stream flow measurements in all ranges of flow to create, update, and maintain stream flow rating curves.
• Obtain, process, compute, analyze, interpret, and evaluate hydrologic data while operating and maintaining a specialized hydrologic database and completing an annual station record.
• Respond to requests for information from internal/external customers including engineers, consultants, other public agencies, and the general public.
• Performing surveying at stream gaging stations utilizing differential leveling.
• Provide support in emergency preparedness functions; participate in emergency drills, earthquake response testing and other emergency operations.  Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the hydrologic data field.

Ideal Experience:

• One (1) year of experience in gathering and analyzing hydrologic data.
• Hydrographer experience utilizing USGS policy/procedures.
• Learning in operation/maintenance of stream gages, stream gaging in all flow ranges, and compiling an annual stream gage record.  
• Proven track record of working independently and in a team environment.

Ideal Skills and Abilities:

• Learn to operate and maintain field equipment for gathering and analyzing hydrologic data.
• Learn methods and techniques involved in gathering and analyzing data related to surface water use.
• Learn to operate and maintain a specialized application interfacing a hydrologic database. for inputting and analyzing hydrologic data.
• Aware of applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
• Read and interpret maps, charts, graphs, plans, drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
• Respond to information from Valley Water employees and outside customers.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ideal Knowledge:

• Some knowledge of basic principles and theories of hydrology, geology, and meteorology
• Some knowledge of scientific data collection and proper field notes .
• An introduction to operational characteristics of mechanical current meters and/or acoustic flow measurement devices, telemetering equipment, and other mechanical and electronic devices.
• Principles of sciences/mathematics including algebra and trigonometry.
• Principles of analytical report preparation.
• State Senate Bill 88 (measuring and reporting the diversion of water).

Training and Education:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, geology, hydrology, hydraulics, sciences, or a related field.

Hydrology, Hydraulics and Geomorphology Unit (Position Code 281)

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.
