The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

The City of Dixon is opening a great opportunity for those curious to learn about the ins and outs of police work for the position of Police Cadet in the Police Department. Under the supervision of veteran Police Officer's the cadet experiences what it takes to develop important cadet skills. The City of Lincoln is hiring for a seasonal Maintenance Worker II within the Parks and Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Department is looking for an individual with at least three years of responsible experience performing municipal parks maintenance. Course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, janitorial or related field is highly desirable.  A successful candidate will have the ability to obtain a Class B Driver’s License within one year of employment.

Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The City of Lincoln is hiring a Civil Engineer!

We are accepting applications to fill an Engineer position in the Engineering Department.  The incumbent will be part of a team of seven working on the City's capital engineering projects.  The position will be filled at any level of the Civil Engineer classification series, dependent upon candidate qualifications.  The salary ranges for each class level are as follows:

• Assistant Engineer:  $73,576.00 to $98,598.87
• Associate Engineer:  $94,183.25 to $126,214.57
• Senior Engineer:  $106,795.51 to $143,116.19

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Assistant Engineer is the entry level class in the professional civil engineering series and is responsible for performing the professional engineering work not requiring registration as a Civil Engineer. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Associate Civil Engineer in that the latter performs the more complex and difficult assignments within the division.

The Associate Engineer is the journey level class in the professional civil engineering series and is responsible for performing the more complex design and construction of capital improvement projects and for reviewing private development projects for design conformance and accuracy. Incumbents perform complex professional engineering assignments requiring considerable knowledge of various aspects of civil engineering including land development, planning, design standards and regulations, construction and maintenance. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Civil Engineer in that the latter performs the most complex and difficult assignments within the division and may exercise direct supervision over assigned project staff.

The Senior Civil Engineer is an advanced journey level registered professional engineer class and exercises full responsibility for planning and organizing a variety of assigned engineering projects and directing the work of assigned staff. Incumbents perform complex professional engineering and program management assignments demanding considerable knowledge of various aspects of engineering and related program requirements including land development, planning, design standards and regulations, construction and maintenance. This classification is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer by the level of accountability expected in the performance of the most complex and difficult assignments, and the performance of program management responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

This position receives direction from the Engineering Manager, and may receive direction from a Senior Engineer, and the City Engineer.  Associate and Senior Engineers may exercise direct supervision over professional and technical support staff and staff augmentation consultants.

• Performs professional engineering work not requiring registration as a Civil Engineer.

• Aids in overseeing the design and development of public works and utility structures and the preparation of project specifications; aids in reviewing plans submitted by consultants and developers to ensure conformity with established standards and regulations.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.

Associate Engineer

• Performs and oversees a broad range of design activities on a variety of public works projects including street, storm drains, sewers, buildings, airports and other public facilities; oversees the administration of construction contracts; performs field inspections; determines design procedures; prepares plans, specifications, project budget and cost estimates; interprets the application of design criteria; checks plans and specifications for accuracy of design and completeness; makes recommendations and monitors the approved project budgets.
• Coordinates capital improvement projects with contractors, utility companies and other departments and agencies; participates in the predevelopment project review process; develops and recommends conditions of approval for projects and conditions for development agreements; provides plan check services for developers and contractors to ensure compliance with city improvement standards; processes lot line adjustments, ROW abandonments, easement and grant deed dedications.

• Manages, develops and coordinates assigned program activities such as industrial waste ordinance management, grease trap enforcement, and other City Municipal Code-related activities, including policy development, community education, regional and state program coordination and required infrastructure modifications; recommend program activity budgets.
• Monitors work activities to ensure safe work practices, work quality and accuracy; ensures compliance to applicable rules, policies and procedures; participates in the development of policies and procedures; recommends programs, projects and work assignments to higher level engineering personnel.
• Assists in the coordination of capital improvement projects with contractors, utility companies and other agencies; administers construction contracts; plans, coordinates, prioritizes, monitors and participates in the work of staff responsible for reviewing design conformance and accuracy of public and private development projects.

THE POSITION

The Police Officer is the journey-level class responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned law enforcement duties and responsibilities, under general supervision. The position also requires both near and far vision and acute hearing. Additionally, incumbents may work outdoors in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The position entails working in hazardous situations, and may involve abusive persons, potential physical violence and the potential risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of law enforcement duties. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to drive motorized vehicles, operate a variety of law enforcement equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

This recruitment is for Lateral or Academy Graduate candidates only.  Only those candidates who have the best combination of qualifications in relation to the requirements and duties of the position will continue in the selection process. THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for the position of Police Cadet (3 positions available).  This is an excellent job opportunity for students interested in law enforcement.  Under direct supervision, this fixed-term/limited term, civilian position provides general and specific information and assistance to the public.  The position also provides logistical assistance to all police department functions.  The primary assignments for the Cadet position are crime prevention, patrol support, and records/front office support. 

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment
• Photocopies documents, files reports and manages additional work requests
• Uses personal computers and software applications for data entry and records maintenance
• Ensures proper calibration and maintenance of technical equipment and instruments
• Cleans and maintains work areas and machinery
• Assists with vehicle fleet cleaning and maintenance
• Performs related duties as required

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of:

• Basic office practices and procedures
• City and Department policies and procedures
• Information technology, personal computers and related software applications
• Correct English usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation
• Alphabetical and numeric filing systems

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Must be able to meet City of San Rafael Police Department requirements for security clearance. 
• Must accept “limited term” appointment requirement as a condition of employment. 
• Must possess a valid California drivers’ license and have a safe driving record. 
• Preference given to college students preparing for a career in law enforcement.
