A Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association accredited law school and six (6) years of experience as an attorney engaged in the practice of civil law, preferably in a municipal setting.

The Position

The Community Relations Manager/Public Information Officer is a full-time management position that reports directly to the City Manager and is part of the City Manager’s Office. The Public Information and Community Relations Division is responsible for providing information to the general public about the programs, projects, and policies of the City Council and City government.

This position is a key member of the City’s Executive Team given the unique position of being a liaison to citizens, businesses, schools, and non-profits in the City.

Under direction of the City Manager, Community Relations is responsible for the City’s cable TV franchise agreements, serving as a liaison with civic organizations, and providing staff support to the Civic Action Commission and Education Commission.

The Public Information function includes providing timely and accurate information to residents, businesses, the media, and others about City services and programs. Significant use of digital communication tools, including the City's website, social media platforms, and the City Channel, is a central aspect of the position. In addition, the role oversees and coordinates production of the Outlook, the City’s printed community newsletter, as well as communications related to special events.

Assisting the Mayor with official communications, sharing information from other organizations regarding upcoming events, providing tours of City Hall and serving as the point of contact for community organizations, providing staff support to City commissions and City Council meetings, and coordinating environmental programs are all aspects of this role that create an interesting, rewarding, and stimulating variety of work.

The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate significant professional and managerial competency in communications, and only those candidates able to “hit the ground running” and quickly establish rapport, trust, and credibility within the organization and the community will be considered.

A Bachelor's degree with major course work in communications, public relations or public administration, and four years of professional communications experience is required.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary range for the Community Relations Manager/Public Information Officer is $142,044—$188,880. Placement in this range is dependent upon qualifications.

• Retirement – The City participates in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) under a 2% @ 60 formula for Classic Members. The City contributes 3% to a 401(a) plan as well as $200/month to an Retirement Health Saving (RHS) plan. Voluntary Roth IRA & 457 plans available.
• Medical Benefit – The City offers two choices for coverage—Kaiser or Health Net. The City pays 75% of the Kaiser monthly premium at each coverage level. 
• Medical in Lieu –  The City will contribute $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) in cash, or a contribution to a 457 deferred compensation plan, in lieu of medical coverage.
• Dental & Vision: City-paid for employee and eligible dependents.
• Life Insurance – City-paid coverage equal to 1x annual salary.
• Holidays – 14 paid holidays per year.
• Vacation Leave – Up to 25 days based on years of service.
• Sick Leave – Accrues at the rate of one day per month, with no maximum accrual.
• Administrative Leave – Up to 16 hours of administrative leave each month on a non-cumulative basis.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to plan, monitor, and manage the ordering, purchasing, storing, billing, issuing and maintenance control of equipment parts, accessories and supplies utilized in the service and repair of the City vehicles and equipment and to perform other related duties.

There are two shop locations – one at the Corporation Yard which focuses on light duty vehicles and one at the Transfer Station which focuses on heavy duty vehicles. This is an amazing opportunity for a self starter to organize the parts room and support the staff, the division, and the entire City fleet.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience ordering, purchasing, issuing, and maintaining electronic inventory systems for heavy equipment parts and/or automotive parts and accessories.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and bending at the waist. Ability to hear automotive sounds, read fine print, and view a computer monitor. Sufficient strength and stamina to lift and transport parts weighing up to 80 pounds. Manual dexterity for detailed mechanical work and computer use. 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to hot and cold environments. Noise level ranges from moderate to high. Potential exposure to hazardous materials and emergency conditions. Must be available to work evening and weekend shifts.

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) is seeking an exceptional, process-orientated professional to serve as the Procurement and Administrative Services Manager. This is a fast-paced agency that seeks to meet the mission through a high level of accountability and transparency.

In the Land Use Division, the Associate Planner performs a variety of professional activities in support of the City's planning services. This Division administers zoning regulations, reviews development projects and assists the community in its efforts to plan for the City's physical, cultural, environmental, and socio-economic future. If current planning activities are assigned, work will include data collection, provision of information to the public at the zoning counter, processing development applications, and environmental review. If policy planning activities are assigned, work will include ordinance and plan revisions, data collection and analysis, and other land use studies.

In the Transportation Division, the Associate Planner works on a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives, such as developing, implementing, and updating the City's transportation plans; analyzing transportation and traffic safety data to identify and prioritize projects and policies that will improve public safety; developing Complete Streets projects and supporting the implementation of transportation capital improvement projects; and coordinating with transit providers, primarily AC Transit, on transit projects affecting Berkeley, including service planning and bus stop improvements. Camp Newark is seeking a confident, creative, and organized leader to serve as an Activity Coordinator for our dynamic summer camp program. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in high-energy environments and are passionate about creating meaningful experiences for youth ages 6–11. 

The Activity Coordinator plays a key leadership role in planning and delivering engaging daily programming while supporting and supervising camp staff. This position requires strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, along with the ability to create a fun, structured, and safe camp environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Create, schedule, and implement creative camp activities for youth ages 6–11, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and STEM-based enrichment. 

• Lead, mentor, and evaluate camp counselors, including training and delegating responsibilities. 

• Coordinate daily camp schedules, special events, and field trips. 

• Maintain clear and professional communication with parents regarding camper experiences and program information. 

• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants.

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced summer camp setting.
