EXAMPLES OF DUTIES OF ACTIVITY LEADER

The following are typical examples of duties associated with this job class. This list is not exhaustive or limiting:

• Monitor a group of participants in grades 1-6 or 6 through 9.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

• Emergency procedures, First Aid, and CPR. The Community Services Department offers a pre-summer certification class.

Skill to:

Requirements:

• Leader I: The applicant must be at least 16 years of age upon appointment, interested in recreation activities, and willing to work with youth in a recreational setting.

• Leader II: The applicant must have an education equivalent to graduation from high school and a background in recreation, Early Childhood Education, and other fields working with children.

Certificates:

• A standard First Aid Certificate and Community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate are required. Training opportunities are provided upon hiring.

Work Permit:

• All appointees under age 18 must have a work permit before beginning work.

$16.90 - $17.90 (hourly, depending on qualifications)

The Music Instructor is responsible for providing quality music instruction to participants of varying skill levels in a positive and engaging environment. Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator, the Pool Manager is responsible for overseeing pool activities and staff and managing the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. This position involves assigning work schedules to the staff. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. Additionally, training, pre-season preparation, and post-season evaluations will require extra time. Mandatory pre-season manager training and all staff in-service training sessions will be conducted before the season begins.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises activities, including, but not limited to, scheduling staff for all aquatic programming; enforces pool rules and regulations; supervises staff and participants; rescues persons in distress and renders First Aid /CPR when necessary; maintains pool records and reports, including program registration and safety reports; follows City policies and procedures; and performs other assigned duties, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:    

• At least three (3) years prior experience as a Lifeguard or Instructor, including experience in supervising and organizing pool operations.

Knowledge of:

• Supervise aquatic staff and oversee daily aquatic activities. 
• Implement aquatic safety techniques and emergency protocols. 
• Manage customer relations, handle money, and enforce pool policies.

Ability to:       

• Demonstrate all skills required for Lifeguard Training.
• Swim proficiently and showcase various swimming techniques.
• Have experience in conflict resolution, particularly in interactions with peers in a work environment.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Education and Certifications:

Under the direction of the Transit Manager, the Transit Analyst II is responsible for carrying out a variety of analytical and technical assignments; and working on administrative and operational activities, analysis and special projects in support of Union City’s transit programs and services.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the experienced-level class in the Transit Division. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves various tasks including, but not limited to, scenario planning, performance-based planning, financial forecasting, regional policy research and analysis, transportation demand management, general analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City. Under direction, assists in the overall operations of a swimming pool facility, and its assigned temporary employees; assists in the planning, organizing, coordination, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of aquatic activities and programs for all ages.

The Assistant Pool Manager is the working lead class responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the pool and aquatics program. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Pool Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for the pool operations, programs, and staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Pool Manager. Exercises indirect supervision over temporary and seasonal aquatics personnel; may exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Complete, review, and file accident and incident reports; assist with follow-up related to reports; purchase, check, and maintain first aid equipment; perform daily safety checks and inspections of the facility and all equipment.

• Review development encroachment permits, building permits, grading and sitework permits and other permit applications, including technical reports and documents such as hydrology and hydraulic reports, stormwater management reports, and geotechnical reports.
• Review legal property descriptions, ordinances, assessment plans and other written materials.

• Makes engineering calculations, completes design drawings, makes and revises maps, charts and diagrams.

• Assist Public Works Inspectors in resolving construction issues.

• Perform field inspections of various municipal construction projects, in progress and upon completion.

• Respond to applicants, contractors, consulting engineers regarding technical information and project related issues; assist and coordinate project resolutions with applicant’s team and City team.
• Coordinate projects with various agencies, such as Caltrans, Union Sanitary District (USD), Alameda County Water District (ACWD), and Alameda County Flood Control District (ACFCD)

• Perform work in accordance with local, State, and Federal standards and regulations

• Attend Alameda County Cleanwater Program committee meetings.

• Schedule and track progress of land development projects.

• Prepare staff reports, as well as presentations for City Council, and other legislative bodies; respond to the public and other inquiries orally and in writing.

• Develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and participate with other department staff in the selection of consulting engineers.

• Serve as Project Engineer on Public Works capital improvement projects and transportation engineering tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
