DEFINITION 

As a Building Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Burlingame Community Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Hours: (Average 10-20 hours per week). Hours depend on rentals and special events. Shifts may include, but are not limited too:

Monday-Thursday: 2:30pm-9:15pm

Friday: 2:30pm-5:30pm
Saturday/Sunday: 7:30am-1:15pm
Saturday/Sunday: 12:45pm-5:30pm
As needed: Private rentals as late as 2:00am. Shifts will vary week to week. There is no set schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)
Opens and closes the building, provides excellent customer service, and maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Performs regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and mirrors, restocking and sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash and recycling, and wiping down surfaces. Assists with event and class setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment, operates audiovisual equipment, and ensures renters follow facility policies, completing final walk-through reports as needed. Staffs the front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, answer phones, take messages, and process registrations and sales.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:  
Knowledge of: Operation of a community center; department rules and policies; availability of current classes; basic mathematical functions; janitorial work (including but not limited to: glass and wall cleaning, dusting, trash pickup, restroom clean up, emptying of trash cans, cleaning of kitchen, etc.).

Ability to: Work independently, learn quickly, perform heavy manual labor; work extremely well with others, including customers, staff, contractors, and volunteers; explain policies and procedures clearly and concisely; read and understand English;

Skills: Ability to use office equipment including copy machine, calculator and personal computer, and keyboarding skills.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year.  No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

The County of San Mateo’s Department of Public Works is seeking applications for the position of Equipment Mechanic III.

The Equipment Mechanic III, under general supervision, service and repair water district pumps and emergency generators, perform mechanical maintenance and repair work on road construction equipment in the shop as well as out in the field and perform routine maintenance and repair tasks as appropriate.

The Vehicle and Equipment Services Section maintains, inspects, services, and repairs County motor vehicles including school and other buses, trucks, equipment, Sheriff's Office vehicles, and motor pool vehicles. Our service and repair stations are located in Redwood City and San Mateo.

 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Inspect and maintain water district pumps and all emergency generators.
• Perform and run tests on all assigned pumps and generators as required.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all pumps and generators, including tune-ups, oil changes.
• Overhaul pumps, adjust packing, and adjust thrust washers.
• Maintain a record of each unit, which may include but not limited to, preventative maintenance, and inspection dates and times.
• Maintain and troubleshoot diesel process equipment such as pumps, valves, mechanical seals and tanks.

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession and maintenance of a valid California Commercial Learner’s Permit at the time of appointment is required if a California Class A Commercial Driver’s License is not held; and must obtain and maintain a valid California Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tank vehicle and hazardous materials endorsements within six months of hire.

The General Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in keeping our communities and centers clean, safe, and visually appealing. This position focuses on a specific set of tasks tailored to meet the needs of the Recreation & Community Services Department, differing from the broader responsibilities of a full General Maintenance Worker under the Public Works Department. Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate to high level of physical activity depending on program assignment. Employees must be able to actively supervise and engage participants in a variety of recreation programs and activities, both indoors and outdoors, and move quickly to respond to participant needs and ensure safety. The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

• Facilitate the attraction, retention, growth and success of Daly City businesses through active engagement, business assistance, provision of information, marketing, and outreach.
• Conduct feasibility assessments for establishing Business Improvement District (BID)
• Oversee and coordinate Economic Development events and festivals.
• Serve as Primary Liaison to the Small Business Commission
• Administer Regulatory Business Programs
• Participate in business conferences related to Economic Development
• Be active in the real estate environment to track real estate trends and work with developers and property owners or property managers to identify and evaluate opportunity sites that are vacant or likely to change hands
• Continuously valuate and review economic development program goals, objectives, and strategies and recommend changes to programs, policies or procedures that will facilitate ongoing success to attract and recruit new businesses to activate and fill vacant commercial spaces.
• Identify, develop and analyze data to assess trends, issues and opportunities affecting businesses and the City in order to effectively support local businesses.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce and effectively maintain the relationship between the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce, and other private and public organizations related to business and economic development.
• Create and foster effective business relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate business attraction and retention that will support the economic development and growth of the City.
• Identify and recommend revisions to ordinances and policies that may hinder business operations to improve economic conditions, functionality and aesthetics.
• Assist applicants, business representatives and developers in dealings with the City on the entitlement and building permit approval process and other needs.
• May assist in the recommendation of policies and programs pertaining to the fiscal and economic development of the City.
• Prepare reports and make presentations to business and community groups, City Commissions and Boards, City Council and the public.
• May prepare and administer the budget for Economic Development Program.
• Supervise and train one Economic Development Program Specialist
• Professionally and effectively represent the City of Daly City in developing relationships between the City and representatives of private sector development opportunities, business community and city staff.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principals, issues and practices of economic and commercial development, redevelopment, land use planning and permitting, business retention, public policy and business development including best practices, marketing/marketing research; statistical analysis and research methods and the sources of information and data pertaining to economic development, business retention; evaluation and analysis of pro formas; the State of California Redevelopment Law; private sector development techniques; Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning economic development activity in urban areas, real estate, public land acquisition, redevelopment and land use; Federal and State Grants regulations, Grant writing and grant administration oversight and implementation experience; Effective methods of gaining consensus and building support for objectives; Principles and practices of organization, administration, budget and supervision.

Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Effectively and professionally represent the City to the business community and the public, Research and communicate economic trends, including vacancy rates, lease rates, and land values, Interpret and explain laws and regulations related to zoning regulations, land acquisition, and economic development, research proposals, evaluate alternatives, and make sound recommendations within established policy guidelines, Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs, adapt, change and be receptive to new direction and shifting City priorities. Understand and apply interpersonal skills to work effectively with the local business community, internal partners and external partners. Plan, prioritize, communicate, delegate and monitor a variety of concurrent projects. Analyze and synthesize data and complex information; write comprehensive reports. Supervise, train, and evaluate one employee. Effectively prepare grants, written reports and recommendations; prepare and present reports at public meetings; deal effectively with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, City officials, local commissions; provide strong administrative, fiscal management and policy analysis skills; be professional, respond to phone and electronic correspondence in a timely manner to the public and city employees, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education: Graduation from college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Planning, Public Administration or a related field.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience and demonstrated proficiency in economic development, real estate financing, commercial real estate, redevelopment, or planning, including two years of supervisory experience. Working knowledge of California planning law and practice is desirable.

License: Possession of a valid California Class C California Drivers License.

The City Attorney's Office
The City Attorney’s Office provides legal advice to all City Departments, the City Council and all Boards and Commissions. In addition, the City Attorney’s Office provides risk management services through the Risk Management Division. 

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in safety and insurance, with hands-on experience in general liability claims, workers’ compensation, and claims investigation. The candidate is comfortable taking a deep dive into safety programs. This individual is highly collaborative, able to work effectively across departments, and skilled at clearly explaining processes, requirements, and projects to both technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate is confident working directly with clients, internal staff, and executive leadership, balancing detail-oriented analysis with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
