What you will do: 
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Performs specialized and detailed work in the review and processing of various financial records and related materials; ensures the integrity of data and information related to area of assignment which may include cash management, payroll, accounts payable/receivable and consolidated billing.

Analyzes and reconciles a variety of journals, accounts, reports and records; to prepare, process, and maintains accounting system records, and transactions.

Prepares journal entries and general ledger reconciliations and performs month and year-end closing of accounting records; assists with City-wide budget development and monitoring.

Balances financial information system controls; balances and posts financial transactions to ledgers and sub-ledgers and reconciles to the accounting system; and balances various other financial transactions with source documents and controls.

Processes and prepares payrolls; responds to staff regarding payroll related questions; updates employee information in payroll systems.

Maintains subsidiary records of fixed assets and depreciation, and tags all fixed assets.

Assists in the preparation of schedules as required for audits and special requests.

Prepares, compiles, tabulates and maintains data and complex documents; assists with preparing technical financial, statistical and operational reports, statements and records.

Responds to inquiries from the public in person, by telephone, and/or in writing, regarding areas of responsibility and initiates appropriate action to resolve problems.

Researches and answers inquiries from employees and other City departments regarding the status of accounts and payments, including proper transaction coding and related matters.

Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Assists in daily operations providing general clerical support as needed.

Performs related work as necessary.

THE POSITION:

Hayward is excited to announce an opportunity to join its progressive and dynamic Transportation Division as the Senior Transportation Engineer. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Public Works – Transportation, Principal Transportation Engineer, or assigned supervisor, the Senior Transportation Engineer will manage the development of various transportation plans and projects; provide oversight and management on major strategic initiatives as stipulated by City Council; plan, assign and review the work of transportation engineering staff; perform technical evaluations related to traffic operations in the City, including signal system operations, streetlight system operations, management of neighborhood traffic calming efforts; perform complex and advanced transportation engineering related studies; and provide overall support to the Deputy Director of Public Works – Transportation, Principal Transportation Engineer, or assigned supervisor.

• Manages the City's Traffic Management Center and makes recommendations on signal timing and other operational improvements, for the city's 135 signalized intersections.
• Troubleshoots overall traffic operations and traffic safety concerns reported by the community both in the office and in the field.
• Manages and/or prepares various transportation studies or programs.
• Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the activities and staff in the traffic operations unit of the Transportation section.
• Participates in the preparation of plans and specifications for new and modified traffic signals, street lighting systems and related traffic control devices.
• Prepares grant applications for federal, state, regional or other funding.
• Recommends and assists in the implementation of the Transportation section's goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for transportation engineering activities and projects.
• Assists with and conducts the more complex transportation engineering projects and activities; prepares recommendations for traffic signal timing and coordination improvements; prepares traffic signal timing plans; and supervises and participates in collecting, tabulating and analyzing traffic information.
• Acts as City Traffic Engineer.
• Provides professional and technical staff assistance.
• Supervises the City's speed lump program and makes recommendations for alternative traffic calming measures as appropriate.
• Supervises and participates in preparation of work orders for installation, removal or replacement of traffic control devices.
• Confers with neighborhood groups, property owners and others relative to information on traffic operations activities; coordinates responses to inquiries from the public, City Council, City Manager and City staff relative to traffic operations issues;
• Coordinates traffic operations unit activities with other City departments; serves as liaison between  the City and  boards, councils, outside organizations, and commissions as directed; prepares and presents staff reports and presentations at various City Council, commissions, boards, and other governmental meetings; prepares  City Council agenda reports; serves on and attends various committees and task forces, attends  Planning Commission, City Council  and neighborhood meetings as necessary.
• Makes presentations on traffic and transportation issues to citizen and neighborhood groups, City Council, and Planning Commission as appropriate.
• Periodically attends and represents the City at the Alameda County Transportation Commission, Metropolitan Transportation Commission and other regional agencies meetings as appropriate.
• Prepares and reviews agreements for traffic signal maintenance and streetlight maintenance support as needed.
• Participates in budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; monitors and controls expenditures; recommends funding needs for traffic operations unit functions and capital projects; monitors CIP project expenditures related to traffic operations, and identifies funding sources to supplement the budget for the traffic operations unit.
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Participates in the selection of transportation engineering staff; provides and coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; and implements discipline procedures.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

License: Registration as a Professional Civil or Traffic Engineer in the State of California.  An out-of-state P.E. or T.E. will be accepted, but will require the candidate to obtain a State of California registration within a one-year period of being hired.  Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

THE POSITION:

This is a division head management position at the Hayward Executive Airport, reporting to the Airport Manager. The incumbent is responsible for the management of the business and accounting functions at the airport and provides second-line supervision and direction of staff within the Airport Division. This position is distinguished from the Airport Operations Supervisor classification which is responsible for the direct supervision of staff performance of Airside and Landside operations and maintenance tasks at the airport. Under general direction, the Airport Business Supervisor, oversees the airport business function including budget preparation, the real property program, tenant compliance with contract provisions, collections, preparation of grant applications, and other administrative duties.

The Airport Business Supervisor is a key administrative position in the Airport division of Hayward Public Works Department. The City of Mill Valley welcomes applications for Public Works Supervisor - Parks.

Under general direction, the Public Works Supervisor assigned to the Parks Division provides leadership and direction in maintaining and enhancing the City’s parks, landscapes, and athletic fields. This position plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of a dedicated crew of seven (7) full-time Maintenance Workers who help keep the City’s outdoor spaces safe, beautiful, and sustainable.

The Supervisor oversees the daily and seasonal maintenance of high-quality athletic fields, irrigation systems, and park facilities, ensuring they meet the needs of both recreational users and organized sports programs. This includes planning and managing turf renovation, field preparation, irrigation repair and upgrades, and plumbing maintenance throughout the City’s parks and landscaped areas.

Serving as the City Arborist, this individual plays a vital role in caring for public trees and vegetation, working closely with the Fire Department, community groups, and other departments to implement the City’s tree maintenance and vegetation management programs.

Other key responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining the City’s gateway areas, medians, demonstration gardens, and other high-visibility landscape features; ensuring the effective operation of irrigation and drainage systems; and supporting the preservation and enhancement of the City’s cherished Steps, Lanes, and Paths network.

As a working supervisor, this position combines hands-on technical knowledge with strong leadership and team-building skills. The Supervisor is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing staff; fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professional growth; and ensuring high standards of performance and service within the Parks Division.

Essential Duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Plan, schedule, coordinate, assign and supervise the work of field crews and contractors engaged in parks, fields, golf course, landscapes, trees, steps, lanes and paths, and special projects work.
• Ensure the safe use of equipment and material and the use of safe working methods, techniques, and procedures.

The Public Works Department
The Public Works Department consists of Design Engineering, Development Engineering, Construction, Civic Facilities, Transportation, Survey, and Real Property sections. The department reviews all proposed land development projects in the City and executes the design and construction of public projects such as streets, parks, and public buildings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• CA State Firefighter 1 or completion of CA State Board of Fire Service Firefighter 1 curriculum prior to appointment

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. We'll expect you to exercise considerable independence and discretion in conducting inspections, resolving complaints and enforcing inspection results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of full-time experience equivalent to Housing Inspector or Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Inspector for a public agency. 

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have effective and courteous communication skills in order to discuss housing violations, violation remedy and necessary inspections and fees and participate in depositions and court hearings as requested. The ideal candidate can support a work environment that highlights efficiency and team collaboration in a professional and friendly atmosphere for the inspectors and administrative staff.
