Under supervision, the Community Service Officer (CSO) performs a wide range of field and office support duties in the patrol and support services divisions within the Marysville Police Department.

This is a specialized, full-time, non-sworn classification. The Community Service Officer has no powers of arrest.

Definition: 
To perform varied and routine non-sworn duties with emphasis on parking enforcement and vehicle abatement program.

Examples of Duties:

• Enforce sections of the Marysville Municipal Code, other enforcement codes; and assist other City Departments in various code enforcement

• Perform traffic control and non-violent crowd control

• Assist Police Officers in routine investigations and respond to and investigate non-injury traffic collisions
• Respond to general inquiries from the public not requiring a sworn officer, in person at the front counter, on the telephone, through electronic mail, or in the field; take and process crime reports; provide information, assistance and required forms.
• Participate in animal control enforcement activities.
• Respond to general public service calls and complaints; perform a wide variety of citizen assistance tasks.
• Operate computer systems and access data bases such as the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) to enter, search, confirm and retrieve a wide variety of information related to local, state and national crime activity and investigations using established codes and screens, determine alternative approaches to locating information such as use of aliases and other name variations

• Complete effective presentations to community groups, provide crime prevention information, and help with community events and related duties.

• Testify in court or at hearings on case records and investigative activities.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Mill Valley is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable individual to join our team as a Maintenance Worker I in the Facilities Division. This position will be assigned to the Community Center and Aquatics & Fitness Center where you will play a vital role in keeping our recreational spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for all visitors.

The Maintenance Worker I classification is designed for individuals who are beginning or growing their careers in facilities maintenance. Employees in this role start under general supervision while learning a wide range of facility maintenance tasks. As skills and experience develop, greater independence in daily assignments is encouraged and expected. At the Community Center/Aquatics & Fitness Center, you will assist with building maintenance, respond to service requests, work directly with staff and the public, and support the operation of key amenities including the pool, spa, and kitchen facilities. Your work will help ensure that this important facility continues to operate smoothly and safely for community members of all ages.

Essential Duties (include but are not limited to): 

• Inspect Community Center/Aquatics & Fitness Center facilities regularly for safety issues, repair needs, and custodial concerns
• Troubleshoot and complete basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks including fixture replacement, minor repairs, and surface preparation
• Perform custodial work such as trash removal, cleaning, vacuuming, window washing, and moving or rearranging equipment or furniture
• Perform minor maintenance on building systems including heating and air conditioning units, flooring, gutters, and downspouts
• Assist with room and event setup as needed.
• Respond to maintenance service requests from departments and address public concerns related to facility upkeep
• Collaborate with outside contractors when required
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and supply needs
• Participate in on call duties during critical incidents or major events when assigned
• Maintain pool and spa operations including safe chemical handling, equipment care, and minor part replacement
• Perform minor repairs on kitchen equipment including refrigerators, freezers, stoves, and similar appliances

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Community & Economic Development department (C&ED) has one (1) vacancy to be filled at either the Assistant Director of Community and Economic Development, Chief Building Official, or Deputy Building Official classification.

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Director of Community and Economic Development is a collaborative and strategic municipal leader with core competencies in Building and Code Enforcement with broad experience across community and economic development operations.   • Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible community and economic development experience, including (2) two years of supervisory experience. 

Chief Building Official

• Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
  • Experience: At least 6 years of progressively responsible professional experience construction related inspection and design review, and code enforcement with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity. Practical experience with principles and practices of organization, administration, budgeting, and personnel management for a municipal government is preferred.
  • Training: Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college with major work in construction technology, engineering, or related field.
    • ICC certification as a Building Official must be obtained within one year of employment
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • Valid CA driver’s license is required.

Deputy Building Official

• Education/Experience
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited educational institution.  Associate of Science degree in Building Inspection or related field is preferred.  
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, including commercial, of which at least two (2) years must be in a supervisory capacity.   
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid CA driver’s license.  
  • Must maintain ICC certification in at least three of the following areas:
    • Commercial building inspector, combination building inspector, electrical inspector, plumbing inspector or mechanical inspector.  These certifications are required at time of hire.  
    • In addition, Plans Examiner certification from ICC is required, but may be obtained within 6 months of hire.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Human Resources Department provides a wide range of internal service support to the City's 12 departments and over 400 employees, strategically aligned with the City Manager's Office leadership of the City team.

The Human Resources Department is composed of a Human Resources Director, Risk Manager, Senior Human Resources Analyst, and three additional support staff positions.

The Human Resources Operations Manager oversees a variety of labor relations and benefits administration duties and serves on the bargaining team during union negotiations.  They will work closely with the HR Director to make important decisions for the HR Department, such as organizational structure changes and staff oversight responsibilities while also serving as a subject matter expert to fellow HR staff and department heads.  They will oversee HR staff and contribute to the development of the Department's annual budget.  This role focuses on supporting the HR team in union relations, meet and confer challenges, grievance responses, and contract negotiations, while supporting department managers through the employee coaching and progressive discipline process.  The Human Resources Operations Manager will use a high degree of accuracy, independent judgment, and discretionary decision-making with respect to interpretation and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), City policies and procedures, the Employer-Employee Relations Resolution and Public Employment Relations Board rulings.  This position also provides oversight for employee benefits administration, and worker's compensation programs for the City.

ABOUT MILL VALLEY

Mill Valley is a full-service city located 10 miles north of San Francisco and has a rich history with engaged residents. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Neighborhood Response Group (NRG) Coordinator position will be filled within the Management Analyst Series and will be housed in the City Manager’s Office/Administrative Services Department.

The City plans to recruit flexibly within the Management Analyst Series (Management Analyst I or II) and will determine the appropriate level based on the qualifications, experience, and overall fit of the selected candidate. At the minimum, this position will be filled on a part-time basis at 15–20 hours per week.

Based on fit between the candidate and the City, we are willing to consider up to full-time employment, including a benefited position, depending on what the top candidate brings to the table and their ability to fit other needs of the City. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for a community-oriented individual to lead local disaster preparedness efforts and other community related projects/programs. DEFINITION: This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Supervisor managing Youth Programs. This position involves a high level of management, coordination, curriculum development and customer service. As an Afterschool Program Director at Old Mill Elementary School, you will plan and coordinate the daily activities for K-5th grade program attendees on-site at the school. You will be responsible for organizing and implementing daily projects and activities, overseeing staff, and communicating with parents. This position requires a commitment to 2025-2026 school year. Program hours are M, T, Th, F from 2:20pm – 5:30pm and Wed. From 1:30pm – 5:30pm Approximately 20-25 hours a week.

Under direct supervision, the Police Academy Recruit attends a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for the performance of Police Officer duties.  This position requires a thorough background investigation, psychological assessment, and a medical exam prior to appointment. This is the non-sworn, entry-level classification in the Police Officer series. Incumbents in this classification receive training in a controlled classroom environment.  Advancement to the sworn Police Officer position is based on meeting minimum qualification standards and satisfactory performance in the academy.
