A new handheld citations system for traffic has recently been launched. The City also implemented a citywide GIS system, document imaging system, and Intranet, which are available to all staff members. Additionally, we have placed laptops in all patrol cars in order to facilitate timely report writing and response to calls for service.

The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure and provides quality, cost-effective, timely services to the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. DPW is responsible for a wide variety of programs throughout the City which include implementation of solid waste and urban run-off pollution prevention programs, design, construction management, inspection and maintenance of City streets, bridges, storm drain systems, traffic signal systems, building facilities, fleet, street trees, landscaping and the closed landfill. The Mechanical Maintenance Position is in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Position: 

The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is a journey level technical classification. This classification operates, lubricates, cleans, adjusts, and makes repairs to heating, ventilating, refrigeration, emergency generators, solar systems, and other stationary building equipment, and installs and troubleshoots electrical systems up to 480 volts. The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is distinguished from the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman/Forewoman in that the latter is a supervisory position responsible for supervising Mechanical Maintenance Workers and Utility Workers in the maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment found in City buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, operation, installation and troubleshooting of diesel and gas engines, centralized heating, ventilation, emergency generators and air conditioning units, related mechanical equipment and electrical systems (up to 480 volts) found in heavy duty machinery or large buildings, such as manufacturing plants, office buildings, or public buildings.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
• California State issued Forklift Certification by the end of the probationary period.
• HVAC/Refrigerant certification required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience with building management systems, such as Direct Digital Control (DDC), Variable Air Volume (VAV), and other related electrical control systems is desirable.

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2026.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. The Position: Learning Facilitators will be responsible for leading high-quality and connected learning experiences with children and collaborating with the other staff in a classroom environment for the Big Lift Summer Program. Learning Facilitators will establish and maintain an environment that embraces the growth mindset, actively facilitate open-ended, child-directed projects, and look for every opportunity to embrace and incorporate youth creativity.
 
Inspiring Summers Camps: The camps serve children reading below grade level in areas where the majority of youth qualify for free or reduced lunch. Staff working intensively with enrolled youth will have the opportunity to make our community a stronger, healthier, and more equitable place. These summer learning experiences are a critical part of San Mateo County's strategy to dramatically reduce the number of youth who cannot read on grade level, a problem that disproportionately affects youth of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Help us support youth in a summer program aimed to build confident youth who will have the benefit of high-quality, cutting-edge learning experiences with caring and passionate adults.
 
Location: Big Lift Inspiring Summer Learning Facilitators will be assigned to work at one of eight camps with children who will be entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grade in the Fall. The camps are located in Daly City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Pacifica, Pescadero, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.
 
Schedule: This 6 to 7-week internship will begin with 8 days of required training and will then continue with a 4 to 5-week assignment in one of our learning camps. The camp assignment will either be part-time (20-28 hours per week, 4-5 hours per day Monday-Thursday and all day on Friday) or full-time (35-40 hours per week, 7-8 hours per day Monday-Friday).
 
MANDATORY IN-PERSON TRAINING WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, MAY 26, OR MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2025, depending on site placement.

Qualifications

These positions are designed to support college-aged students, recent graduates, and paraprofessionals working in youth education.
 
Education or Experience: Experience working with youth or a demonstrated interest in working with youth. Examples include experience coaching, tutoring, providing childcare, and taking child development coursework. Experience in theater, arts, music, youth development, early childhood, social justice, and science is also preferred.
 
Age Recruitment: must be 16 years or older. 
 
Language: Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.

Overview:

Are you an experienced Vegetation Maintenance professional with five or more years of experience and a valid Class A driver’s license? If so, we encourage you to consider this opportunity with Valley Water.

Maintenance Worker III is an advanced journey-level position responsible for operating a variety of light construction equipment in support of Valley Water’s maintenance and construction projects. This role provides agency-wide support for work on creeks, ponds, reservoirs, and other flood control facilities throughout the county.

Assigned to the Vegetation Field Operations Unit, this position performs a broad range of duties supporting Valley Water’s vegetation management programs. Responsibilities include vegetation control, integrated vegetation management, arboriculture, native plant revegetation, invasive plant management, and biotechnical erosion control on Valley Water properties.

This is primarily an outdoor position requiring work in varying and sometimes challenging environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Incumbents may also be required to respond to after-hours flood control emergencies, including nighttime callouts.

As a light equipment operator, the Maintenance Worker III must possess a valid Class A driver’s license to operate Valley Water commercial vehicles and to transport light equipment used in vegetation management and flood control projects. Daily equipment operation may include a compactor, water truck, tree truck and chipper, dump truck, and wheel loader. Equipment is used to haul vegetative debris, maintain native plant mitigation sites, support invasive plant management efforts, and assist with Valley Water’s sandbag operations.

This position also ultimately requires a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate (QAC) in Category C (Right-of-Way) and Category F (Aquatics) to mix and apply herbicides and calibrate spray equipment for vegetation control on Valley Water managed properties.

• Operate a variety of small power tools and light equipment, including spray equipment, mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, pole saw, hydro seeder, small trenchers, loader, compactors, water trucks, forklift, straw mulcher, auger, sandbag machine, and chipper; clean, adjust, and perform minor maintenance on light equipment to ensure proper operating condition. 
• Mix and apply herbicides, and calibration of spray equipment to control the growth of vegetation on and around flood control and water distribution facilities and rights of way. 
• Build or remove browse cages or other devices to keep wildlife from damaging native plant revegetation sites. 
• Build phytosanitary benches, fences, irrigation, etc. in support of native plant holding facility. 
• Participate in Valley Water’s sandbag program as needed. 
• Perform calculations of required work materials; document daily application of chemical use; photo documentation of work, complete work order dailies, best management practices checklists, surveys, forms, and time data entries. Maintain paper and electronic records of work performed.

Ideal Training and Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. 

Must have a satisfactory driving record and possess a valid California Class A driver's license with tanker endorsement at the time of hire.

Possession of a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate or Qualified Applicator License in Category C issued by the State of California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation at the time of hire.

Possession of a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate or Qualified Applicator License in Category F issued by the State of California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation within 6 months of hire.
