THE POSITION  Police Officer Trainees will be registered to attend a Basic Police Academy course to meet the minimum required training mandates governed by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for entry level Law Enforcement.  Upon successful completion of the Basic Police Academy, Police Officer Trainees are transitioned to a Police Officer safety position, and enter the Field Training Program for Police Officers.    The Redwood City Police Department offers many opportunities for learning and long-term career growth in a city comprised of diverse residential and business communities. Minimum Qualifications:  

·   Age not less than 21-years-old at time of appointment to the rang of police officer

·   Equivalent to completion of an Associate's degree from an accredited college

·   Effective January 1, 2023, peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.  There are no specific citizenship requirements per Senate Bill 2. California Government Code Section 1031(h) limits employment authorization documents to those consistent with Section 274a.2 of Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations.  Specific documentation requirements can be found on the I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Government Code section 1031(g) permits departments to adopt additional and/or higher standards.

· Free of any felony convictions

· Vision in each eye, correctable to at least 20/30

License or Certificate:

·   Possession of a valid California driver’s license and appropriate license classification as required.

In addition to the minimum qualifications:  The Academy Graduate must have a California POST approved Basic Academy certificate with a preferred T-Score of 52 or above and at least 800 hours issued within 3 years of the date of application.  A copy of your certificate is required with your application in order for you to continue in the process.
