ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic people to work within our After School Sports and Mobile Recreation programs operated out of Red Morton Community Center. The hours of this position could be Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-8:30pm during the school year, but nighttime and weekend hours will be mandatory depending on special events and program needs. During the spring and summer, duties will include, but are not limited to, serving as an assistant coach within our Junior Dribblers basketball program and assisting with mobile recreation activities at various parks and school sites. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball, or basketball official. On game days, youth referees will be partnered with experienced officials that will provide training and mentorship. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm.

Official’s shirt, whistle, and training resources are provided. All training is provided by the Silicon Valley Sports Officials Association. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction.

Flag Football and Volleyball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY AUGUST 1

• Training - Mid-August – September
• League games begin the last week of September – second week of November

The General Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in keeping our communities and centers clean, safe, and visually appealing. This position focuses on a specific set of tasks tailored to meet the needs of the Recreation & Community Services Department, differing from the broader responsibilities of a full General Maintenance Worker under the Public Works Department. The Recreation Coordinator or Recreation and Community Services Supervisor is the key point of contact for this position, providing general direction and/or supervision.

1. Field Preparation: Assist t with basic field preparation for baseball and softball, including tasks like dragging the infield play area, marking chalk lines, and other essential setup activities.
2. Groundskeeping: Support keeping the exterior areas of community centers clean and presentable by removing trash and maintaining general tidiness. Assist with watering and care of indoor plants within recreation centers as needed.
3. Facility Cleaning: Perform light janitorial duties, including cleaning restrooms, fitness centers, and lobbies.
4. Events & Equipment Support: Assist with event setup and teardown once events are completed. Maintain special event equipment, furniture and supplies and promptly report any damaged or broken items to a supervisor for replacement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.  This provision may be waived for applicants 15 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

ABOUT THE POSITION: Office Assistant I will receive immediate direction from the Senior Administrative Assistant, with additional direction given by the Business Services Supervisor.
