The Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Child Custody Recommending Counselor.
 
The Child Custody Recommending Counselor will provide mediation services and child custody recommending counseling as required by California Family Code section 3160 et seq, and will conduct investigations and prepare reports as provided in California Family Code section 3110 et seq and Family Code section 7851 and 9001.  The candidate hired for the position will work in any court department and must be able to travel to any court location in the county.

Qualifications

Experience and Education: As required by the Family Code and the California Rules of Court, applicants for positions in this classification must have the following minimum qualifications:

• Experience: Two years of experience in counseling or psychotherapy, or both, preferably in a setting related to the areas of responsibility of the family conciliation court and with the diverse population to be served.
• Education: A master's degree in psychology, social work, marriage, family, and child counseling, or other behavioral sciences substantially related to marriage and family interpersonal relationships.

Knowledge of: 

• Adult Psychopathology, family psychology, child development, child abuse, the effects of divorce on children, the effects of domestic violence on children, child custody research, and clinical issues relating to children.
• Domestic violence issues as described in Family Code Section 1816.
• Principles and techniques of family mediation.
• Crisis intervention techniques.
• Cultural diversity issues.
• Community resources for client referral.
• Laws, rules, regulations, policies, and legislation related to Court operations and functions, particularly those related to family law and court mediation.
• Ethical standards which promote fairness and encourage trust in the mediation process.

Skill/ Ability to:

• Prepare well written, thorough reports, which include information regarding a family from various professional sources.
• Assess the mental health needs of children.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties, including fellow employees, members of the judiciary, behavioral specialists, service providers, and the public.
• Learn the Federal, State, and local regulations and guidelines related to assigned duties.
• Perform the full range of the assigned duties with minimal supervision.

San Mateo County Public Safety Communications (PSC) is San Mateo County’s largest dispatch center and the only Tri-Community (Police, Fire, Medical) Center in the County. Our state-of-the-art dispatch facility, located in Redwood City, provides all the tools and infrastructure for the organization to be successful.

 

The Position:

• Lead the design, implementation, and support of departmental information systems and applications within the Public Safety Communications environment, including NG9-1-1 systems and CAD.
• Analyze end-user needs and develop specifications for software enhancements or new applications with emphasis on AI-driven analytics and automation.
• Oversee deployment and support of server infrastructure (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), and hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure).

Technology Support Duties:

Due to variances in departmental size and staffing structures, incumbents in this classification may also perform technical support activities that include, but are not limited to, the following:

• May monitor database system performance and resource consumption for capacity and budget planning purposes; provide technical information, advisory assistance, and troubleshooting resources.
• May design and deploy system utilities and monitoring software to configure hosts/servers and develop and/or modify native operating system scripts to ensure robust system and application performance.
• May evaluate and test system upgrades, install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade department software applications and troubleshoot hardware and software-related problems.
• May evaluate new hardware and software products for use by department staff, and provide expert advice to users on software applications.

The Position

In June 2025, the County’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to reestablish a countywide human trafficking prevention pilot program in the District Attorney’s Office. The pilot program is an investment in technology and expertise to provide education and outreach, protect victims, prevent exploitation, identify traffickers, and bring perpetrators to justice.

 

Working under the direction of and closely with the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations, the Human Trafficking Prevention Analyst (Prevention Analyst) will help conduct research and track and collect data regarding human trafficking crime activity, as well as targeted prevention efforts, to guide the county’s efforts to combat human trafficking and support the victim/survivors. 

 

The Prevention Analyst will work closely with partner agencies – including community-based organizations, law enforcement agencies, agencies providing victim services, local cities, and school districts to track the scope of human trafficking in San Mateo County.  In addition, the Prevention Analyst may attend daytime and evening meetings with community-based and other organizations, representing the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations.  

 

Using the research findings and the collected data, the Prevention Analyst will draft high-level reports to inform policymakers, including the Board of Supervisors, of the progress of the human trafficking prevention initiative.  

 

Expertise in research and data extraction, management, and reporting are essential to success in this position. Additionally, strong verbal and written communication skills are required to prepare analyses, reports, and presentations.  Versatility and flexibility will also be important in this position.

• Conduct independent research.
• Collect, aggregate, and analyze data.
• Create representational (dashboards, graphs, charts, etc.) and written reports based on research and collected data.

• Associate Management Analyst is the first level classification in the Management Analyst series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic professional administrative education and/or experience perform analytical and technical work. The impact of decisions is moderate, and the work is typically one of interpreting, explaining, or gathering information. The annual salary range for an Associate Management Analyst is: $104,811 – $130,998.
   
• Management Analyst is the fully experienced level classification in the Management Analyst series. Incumbents support the work of departmental management staff by conducting day-to-day administrative support activities and acting as a professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational analyses and studies. The work has technical and programmatic aspects requiring the interpretation and application of policies, procedures, and regulations. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The annual salary range for a Management Analyst is: $121,264 – $151,611.
     

Limited Term Position

Funding for this pilot program has been approved through December 2026, so this position is being filled as a Limited-Term position.  Limited-term positions are full-time, fully benefited, temporary positions.   Limited Term employees receive medical and dental benefits, like regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan (401-A).  Depending on need, the position could become a regular position, but there is no guarantee of this.

For current and regular County of San Mateo employees, this position could be a work-out-of-class or a development opportunity.   Employees who are interested in this assignment must submit application materials and compete in the selection process.

Experience with data analytics is required.

Because of the sensitive and difficult information this position will encounter previous experience or education in criminal justice, social work, social services, and/or psychology might be helpful.

Qualifications:

Experience and Education: As required by the Family Code and the California Rules of Court, applicants for positions in this classification must have the following minimum qualifications:

• Experience: Two years of experience in counseling or psychotherapy, or both, preferably in a setting related to the areas of responsibility of the family conciliation court and with the diverse population to be served.
• Education: A master's degree in psychology, social work, marriage, family, and child counseling, or other behavioral sciences substantially related to marriage and family interpersonal relationships.

Knowledge of:

• Adult Psychopathology, family psychology, child development, child abuse, the effects of divorce on children, the effects of domestic violence on children, child custody research, and clinical issues relating to children.
• Domestic violence issues as described in Family Code Section 1816.

• Community resources for client referral.
• Laws, rules, regulations, policies, and legislation related to Court operations and functions, particularly those related to family law and court mediation.
• Ethical standards which promote fairness and encourage trust in the mediation process.

Skill/ Ability to:

• Prepare well written, thorough reports, which include information regarding a family from various professional sources.
• Assess the mental health needs of children.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties, including fellow employees, members of the judiciary, behavioral specialists, service providers, and the public.
• Learn the Federal, State, and local regulations and guidelines related to assigned duties. 
• Perform the full range of the assigned duties with minimal supervision.

The Town of Woodside is seeking a Director of Public Works/Town Engineer to join the Public Works and Building Department under the direction of the Town Manager. Woodside is a rural residential community of approximately 5,300 residents located on the San Francisco Peninsula in San Mateo County. The Director of Public Works/Town Engineer will provide seasoned leadership to advance progressive Town initiatives. The Director of Public Works/Town Engineer will plan, organize, and provide administrative direction and oversight for all public works functions and activities, including infrastructure engineering, design and construction, streets and traffic control, engineering plan checking, permit approval, facility, parks and infrastructure maintenance.

The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assume full management responsibility for all department services and activities including engineering, capital improvements, streets, sewer, storm drain systems, building permitting, and vehicle and equipment maintenance; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
• Manage the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned service area.
• Establish, within Town policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; allocate resources accordingly.
• Plan, direct and coordinate the Public Works Department's work plan; assign projects and program areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures; meet with key staff to identify and resolve problems.

• Provide for the selection, training, professional development, and work evaluation of department staff, authorize discipline as required; provide policy guidance and interpretation to staff.
• Oversee the development and ensure proper implementation and progress of capital improvement projects.
• Review, edit and sign off on reports to the Town Manager regarding capital improvement projects for submission to the Town Council.
• Develop and maintain familiarity with Federal, State, County and regional funding programs and maximize grant acquisition for capital projects.
• Supervise long-term and complex assignments with responsibility for project development, establishing priorities, developing timelines, evaluating work assigned to staff and assuring quality and accuracy of departmental output.
• Review and analyze claims and potential liability matters and provide professional assistance to the Town Manager, Town Attorney, Town Council and insurance claims adjusters.
• Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the department budget; approve the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; timely approval of expenditures; annual review of capital assets; implement budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.
• Prepare and administer operating and capital improvements program budget.
• Explain, justify and defend department programs, policies and activities; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
• Represent the Public Works Department to other departments, Town Council and outside agencies; coordinate assigned activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations.

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The Opportunity:

To perform technical inspection and investigative work in enforcing compliance with laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the prevention and control of fires; and do related work as required. The Fire Prevention Inspector I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience.

 

This is the entry level class in the Fire Prevention Inspection series. This class is distinguished from the Fire Prevention Inspector II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including weed abatement and smoke detector inspections, which do not require prior specialized experience. What You’ll Do:

POSITION OVERVIEW 

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assistant Planner to join our team in Millbrae, San Mateo County.  

 

The Community Development Department is comprised of five divisions and functional areas: Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, Housing, and Economic Development. This position will be the primary planner assigned to staff the public service counter, and would be assigned to process planning applications, zoning clearances, business license applications, and building, sign, and wireless permits. There would be a focus on processing design review planning applications and conditional use permits for single family dwelling units and other smaller scale residential and commercial projects.  This position may also work on other duties as needed by the Planning Division.
