On-Call Expectations

Emergency Coordinators may be assigned on-call duties with a minimum of 7 days' advance notice, distributed equitably among qualified staff. During on-call periods, employees must remain within 30 miles of the facility and respond within 30 minutes of notification while maintaining reliable communication. Employees will be compensated for all on-call hours outside of normal working hours under applicable labor standards and collective bargaining agreements. Employees retain the right to engage in personal activities during on-call periods, cannot be assigned more than 7 consecutive days without a 48-hour break, and maintain full union representation rights and grievance procedures for any on-call related issues. All provisions comply with Fair Labor Standards Act requirements and union standards for emergency worker compensation and working conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Emergency Planning & Coordination
• Support technical tools such as SMCAlert , EOC software, GIS dashboards, and mapping platforms
• Develop visual aids and dashboards to support situational awareness

• Develop and update all-hazards emergency plans, policies, and procedures

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. A typical path includes:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, planning, GIS, or a related field

Experience: At least one year of experience supporting emergency planning, response coordination, training, or related public service activities

Preferred:

• ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications (or willingness to obtain)
• Familiarity with EOC functions and emergency notification systems

General

The Engineering Manager will report to the Director, Bus Infrastructure and Capital Projects and will be responsible for the engineering functions of the infrastructure and capital project development department for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans). 

The Bus Infrastructure and Capital Projects Department oversees the delivery of major bus fleet and facilities infrastructure projects for SamTrans. The department’s projects include design and construction of zero emission infrastructure (battery electric bus (BEB) charging infrastructure and hydrogen fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) infrastructure) for SamTrans's revenue and non­revenue fleet of nearly 400 vehicles, sea level rise and flood mitigation structures, bus administration, transportation, and maintenance buildings, and other structures at SamTrans' North Base and South Base Maintenance Facilities.

• Oversee the development of standard plans and specifications that can be used for future SamTrans infrastructure projects.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter/Engineers who are licensed paramedics. Under direction of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Engineer will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighter/Engineers also provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Two years (2) of full-time firefighting service.
2. Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter I certificate is required.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, the Maintenance Custodian serves as the worker in the duties of care and cleaning of assigned buildings and related facilities.  The incumbent will be required to travel between several City buildings during their scheduled shift. Custodial services are provided seven days a week with shifts starting at 5pm and ending at 1:30am. How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND

Experience: Four (4) years of experience managing a section with oversight of contract negotiation, administration, operation, or compliance within a large organization, all of which includes experience supervising professionals.

Substitution:

1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.
