The City of Belmont is seeking an Information Technology Intern for approximately 20 hours a week at Belmont City Hall. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position. The intern position is an in-person opportunity, with flexible hours within the Monday to Friday – 8:00am to 5pm window. This internship is open for applications to current undergraduate students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months).

The Position

The IT Intern will be exposed to government information technology and will receive on-going support and training while working collaboratively with City staff. They will gain applicable experience and the communication skills to prepare them for an IT Technician job. This intern will also participate in a new website project, cybersecurity initiatives, application administration, and provide hands-on help desk support.

 

Typical Duties (may include, but are not limited to the following):

• Responding to daily IT help-desk requests
• Engaging in proactive problem solving and repairing of IT related equipment and systems
• Assisting in modifying and maintaining existing applications such as but not limited to Windows 10/11 and Office365 applications
• Supporting, performing research, and executing IT projects as assigned
• Providing user support for software applications and technical expertise to City Staff

Foster City is looking for a fast learner with some planning or building experience to fill the position of Building Permit Technician. This is an entry-level position that can serve as the first step in establishing a career in Planning or Building services. Foster City offers a unique experience to utilize customer service and people skills while deepening your technical knowledge in the building permit process. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or completion of technical courses in building codes or inspection principles or techniques is desirable. ICBO Permit Technician Certification is highly desirable.

Experience: Two (2) years experience working in a building or planning department, with six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in computerized building permit applications processing. 

Licenses and Certifications

• ICBO Permit Technician Certification is required within the first full year of employment with the City in this position

Selection Process

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Plan Checker.  This position is to assist in the review of building plans and specifications for compliance with city, state and model code requirements; provide advice and interpretations to clients; and process building permit applications. It is under general supervision of Chief Building Official.

The Judicial Council of California is accepting applications for the position of Engineer for the Facilities Services office.

The Engineer will perform engineering design review, and options analysis in the areas of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for judicial branch facilities. Incumbent will assist facility management staff in the more complex facility maintenance engineering activities including1) development and control of operating and maintenance procedures, 2) analysis of design maintainability and operability, and 3) other related technical support.

Incumbent will work directly with regulatory agencies such as Division of the State Architect (DSA), Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), Division of Occupational Health and Safety (Cal/OSHA), and local city and county Departments of Public Works (DPW) to explain the Judicial Council’s approach to code compliance in designs for new capital projects, facility modification projects, and correction of code violations in existing court facilities. The mechanical professional engineer (PE) license in the state of California is required to provide credible authority as the incumbent negotiates with the regulatory agencies and to validate incumbent’s decisions that may affect the safety of court facility occupants.

May oversee contractors and subcontractors during design and construction and may perform evaluations of “as built” conditions to assure compliance with plans, specifications, regulations, and applicable standards.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Community Development Department (CD) is seeking a value-driven team player to fill the position of Planning Intern. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic college level student seeking broad experience within a dynamic City Planning Division. The Planning Division of the Community Development Department administers City Council policies contained in the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and other plans and ordinances. In addition, the Division establishes new and amended rules governing land use and urban design for adoption by City Council from the platform of the General Plan. The Division provides staff, professional service, and administrative support relating to the development, improvement, and preservation of affordable housing opportunities.

The Planning Intern will assist with a number of projects and efforts throughout the Division, which may include:

• Review of minor planning applications and building permits for compliance with required standards
• Prepare approval letters, staff reports, and presentations to the Zoning Administrator
• Shadowing and assisting Planning staff during public counter hours
• Conducting research for various strategic planning studies that could include Redwood City Greater Downtown Area Plan, Historic Preservation Ordinance updates.
• Preparing updates to forms, handouts, and other materials.

Special Requirements:

Must be willing to work at City Hall for a minimum of three business days from Monday- Thursday per week. Of the three workdays, one day must be Tuesday.

The City of Foster City is seeking a dedicated Code Enforcement Officer I with strong interpersonal skills. The Code Enforcement Officer will perform routine and standardized tasks and duties like conducting field checks to uncover possible violations of a variety of City codes and ordinances including zoning, nuisance, property maintenance, and housing. This position will analyze and make recommendations on policy development and investigate possible violations, contact responsible individuals in person and in writing and perform follow-up investigations to see that remedial action has been taken. 

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: AA degree from an accredited college; BA degree desirable.

Experience: One year of experience in public contact work involving investigation or inspection skills.

• Review, update, and oversee public services standards and associated staff training materials.
• Assist with the inventory, management, and coordination of emergency equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate safety and security protocols, including incident reporting guidelines, tracking systems, and follow-up procedures.
• Work closely with the Training & Development Coordinator to develop and deliver training programs to ensure excellent customer service delivery and response to patron incidents.
