The Position 
As a Public Safety Dispatcher II, this non-sworn classification dispatches public safety, fire, and emergency medical services out into the community. The successful incumbent will be responsible for receiving incoming calls for police, fire, or medical assistance and dispatch necessary units. This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher I by a broader range of responsibility due to a higher level of experience and training.  

Candidates must attain a passing score on each phase of the examination process to qualify for the Eligible List. A department interview will be required prior to appointment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the non-sworn flexibility staffed Public Safety Dispatcher I/II series. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the class of Public Safety Dispatcher I in that the latter is the entry level class where incumbents are trained on full range of dispatch functions under immediate supervision. This class is distinguished from the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher in that the latter has full responsibility for supervising a shift of Public Safety Dispatchers I/II.

 

 

Typical Duties

 

Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be performed.

• Operates base radio console equipment, transmitting and receiving routine and emergency messages
• Receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines
• Dispatches appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel in response to those requests, in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Coordinates emergency operations between various departmental personnel and equipment
• Operates data terminals for information pertaining to daily public safety operations, and general emergency services
• Maintains written logs, files, and computer information in the prescribed manner
• Updates computer files and performs other clerical functions and tasks as directed
• Performs other related duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of a valid California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate and a valid Medical Priorities Dispatching System (MPDS) Certificate are required prior to the completion of the probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment. All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

The Town of Los Gatos is seeking an exceptional, highly skilled Executive Assistant to provide advanced administrative, project, and analytical support to the Town Manager and Town Council. About the Position: Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking three interns in the Natural Resources Department: one Water Resources Intern and two Conservation Biology Interns.  Under the guidance of our professional biological staff, these subject-matter focused internships will provide training in a broad range of common natural resource management techniques and environmental analyses.  Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months).  The expected start date for these positions is in April 2026. 

Water Resources Intern 

• The responsibilities of the intern will focus on a long-term aquatic habitat assessment and restoration project. Additional smaller projects may be assigned in other natural resource subject areas. Responsibilities will include scientific literature reviews, GIS mapping and modeling, data analysis, organizing and performing field work, writing reports, and science communication.  Successful candidates will have an understanding of the hydrologic or ecological principles of wetlands and streams, experience with ArcGIS Pro, the ability to collect, organize, and interpret data, and written communication skills.  Experience with data analysis in R, Python, or Microsoft Excel is preferred, and supplemental training time will be available. Experience with field work in remote areas is desirable.

Conservation Biology Intern (2 positions)

• The responsibilities of the intern include identifying plants in the field following plant survey and collection protocols; providing biological monitoring during construction and other ground-disturbing activities; GIS mapping, researching and preparing written summaries of local species, and collecting and organizing data in spreadsheets and databases. Requires the ability to identify plants and common wildlife of California as well as the skill of interpreting scientific reports and writing summaries. 

Basic Requirements: Current enrollment in a post-secondary education (e.g., associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree) program in a relevant field or a recent graduate. Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in biology, botany, ecology, geology, environmental studies or another related field; and some experience with field survey techniques. Experience with ArcGIS software and mapping natural resources with GPS equipment are a plus. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required. Working Conditions/Schedule: This position will be divided between remote office work, on-site office work and field visits to survey, map, and collect field data. This position will operate in the Natural Resources Department at Midpen offices in Los Altos, California. Fieldwork is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone in wildland areas and traversing rough, difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak, ticks and dense vegetation. Work may take place during inclement weather conditions. The selected individual will be required to work a minimum of three days on-site per week, and work may vary between field and office work. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period (school schedules can be accommodated within regular business days/hours). The Position: 

This is a professional position in the classified service assigned to the City of Santa Clara’s Electric Utility Department, Silicon Valley Power (SVP). This position works directly for SVP’s Systems Support Group (SSG) which is the technology backbone of SVP.  SSG is a growing division, we directly support a large range of technology projects and modernization efforts within SVP, including activities in support of the unprecedented load growth of the Utility. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Administrator to design, implement, and support both enterprise and utility-specific network infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Cisco technologies. The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of the organization’s overall network environment, including SVP’s utility communication and control systems.

In this role, the Network Administrator is responsible for administering and monitoring network services, managing a variety of advanced network and security products—including Cisco firewalls and intrusion prevention systems- and maintaining compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements as well as applicable state and local mandates. This position involves supporting and maintaining complex infrastructure components such as enterprise-grade Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, wireless controllers, such as HP Aruba switches, and RSA Authentication Manager, while also managing secure VPN access and routing protocols and future state zero trust network access initiatives.

The incumbent will oversee DNS infrastructure, support VoIP systems to ensure call quality and reliability, and proactively monitor network performance to detect and resolve issues related to

connectivity, latency, or system failures. The role also requires accurate documentation of network configurations and changes, collaboration with internal teams on infrastructure projects and upgrades, and participation in organizational capacity planning.

In addition, this position supports business continuity by ensuring high availability and disaster recovery capabilities across all network components, investigates and reports on security incidents in accordance with departmental policy or direction from senior management, and provides technical leadership and mentorship to others.

• Five (5) years of network operations and administration experience in Utility Operations and/or Electric Scheduling or the equivalent, including experience in utility cyber security and facility security.
• Three (3) years of the required experience must have been in a lead position; and
• Three (3) years of the required experience must include operations and maintenance level experience with Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) equipment installed in utility applications.  

Acceptable Substitution: 

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education, up to a maximum of four (4) years.

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

• A bachelor’s degree in either Computer Science or Engineering is highly desirable;
• Training in electric utility substation safety standards is highly desirable;
• Specific experience with the General Electric JungleMUX product is highly desirable;
• Experience with any of the following systems is highly desirable:

1. Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS);
2. Virtual machine VMWare environments;
3. Configuration and administration of networks, firewalls, routers, switches ACL policies;
4. Cisco Access Control Systems (ACS) 2-factor authentication; and
5. Lightweight Directory Authentication Protocol (LDAP).

Other Requirements:  

• On call for 24/7 support of all critical networking structures, perform troubleshooting and maintenance in active electric substations and taking action to insure the Electric Utility meets the CIP Reliability Standards in its communication and control systems at all times;
• Incumbents will have to pass an initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, which may include fingerprinting, to meet Federal, State and/or industry security requirements;
• Incumbents will be required to obtain and maintain any license or certification mandated by Federal or State requirements; and

DEFINITION: Under general supervision the aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 3-5 years old. About the Light Rail Maintenance Department

Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance is located at the Guadalupe Light Rail Division. LRV Maintenance is responsible for timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, repair and servicing of light rail vehicles and service equipment.

After a light rail vehicle returns from revenue service at the end of each day, Maintenance performs an interior inspection/walk-through of the vehicle, analyzes the Operator Defect Card, performs a visual inspection of the vehicle undercarriage, performs exterior and interior cleaning, cleans and repairs windows and seating, and removes and repairs graffiti and vandalism.

Way, Power & Signal Maintenance is responsible for timely and reliable maintenance, preventive maintenance, inspections, repair and servicing of the light rail right-of-way, rail system power, tracks, signals, station facilities and related equipment. Components of the Way, Power & Signal unit are:
 

• Station & Wayside Maintenance: Station & Wayside Maintenance maintains and repairs (including graffiti removal) light rail stations, terminal buildings, restrooms, park & ride lots, landscaping, fences, guardrails, and other trackside areas.

• Track Maintenance: Track Maintenance maintains (including right-of-way weed eradication, vegetation control, and graffiti removal), performs preventive maintenance, inspects, services and repairs rail, switches, ties, roadbed, and track systems.

• Power Maintenance: Power Maintenance maintains (including trackside right-of-way tree trimming), performs preventive maintenance, inspects, repairs, and services light rail electric power systems, including overhead, substations, lighting, and other electrical systems.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position classification responsible for assisting the Survey and Mapping Manager in supervising the efforts of subordinate personnel including surveyors, engineering technicians, and consultants. The Senior Land Surveyor can be assigned to any of the following areas: supervision of survey activities in the field for design and construction projects, supervision of office surveying functions such as mapping, writing legal descriptions, and production of accurate calculations used for engineering, real estate and construction activities.

This classification requires that the incumbent be licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent and possess specialized knowledge of land surveying techniques and construction surveying, with emphasis on technology such as GPS (Global Positioning System) methodology and instrumentation. This position will supervise professional and/or administrative staff, as well as identify the need for establishing and administering consultant contracts. Eligible Lists typically remain in effect for six (6) months. However, Human Resources may abolish Eligible Lists at any time during the six (6) month period. Human Resources may extend eligible Lists for up to two (2) years. Eligible Lists may be used for more than one recruitment.
