The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security. 

About the Sheriff’s Department :

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

About the Position: Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern in the Information Systems and Technology (IST) Department. The GIS Intern will perform GIS mapping and analysis tasks in support of land acquisition, open space planning, capital improvement, and resource management activities. Responsibilities include creating maps for District Board reports and presentations; compiling and synthesizing geographic data; developing attribute data for feature classes; performing basic geoprocessing; maintaining and updating GIS databases as new data are collected; preparing, modifying and updating District site maps and brochures; providing graphic support for other departments including the development of maps, charts, displays, presentations, graphics, brochures, and drawings; and collecting field data. The expected start date for this position is November 2025.

Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, or trade school in a relevant field. Successful candidates will have a background in geography, planning, environmental studies, landscape architecture, or another related field; demonstrated experience with ArcGIS software; and demonstrated expertise/enthusiasm in cartography and map production. This position requires great attention to detail, excellent communication and critical thinking skills, the ability to work well both in a team setting and independently, the desire to learn, and the willingness to occasionally work in rugged, remote settings. Knowledge of web GIS and experience with field data collection are a plus. Working Conditions/Schedule: This position is based primarily in-office at our Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA, as part of the IST department. While the majority of work will be performed in an office setting, there may be occasional instances of field data collection. These field activities are infrequent but may involve travel in a district vehicle and, at times, working independently in varied outdoor conditions, including remote and rugged terrain with numerous biotic and abiotic hazards during inclement weather. This is a temporary position working 24 – 32 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 7-to-9-month period. This is a non-benefited position.

The position performs highly responsible, complex general and specialized administrative and clerical duties.

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives general supervision from and reports directly to the General Manager and his/her
designated representative.

ESSENTIAL AND IMPORTANT DUTIES

• Composes correspondence independently or as directed; prepares letters, reports and other finished copy from rough draft and marginal notes; reviews, formats, and edits general correspondence for the General Manager, Finance Officer, Claims Administrator, and other personnel, ensuring proper formatting, grammar, and punctuation.
• Attends Board of Directors meetings, takes and transcribes minutes. Prepares meeting agendas and Board packets. Posts meeting notices, agendas and minutes to various locations and website.
• Coordinates and schedules a variety of meetings and other events/activities, tracks number of attendees, coordinates site locations, and arranges for necessary supplies and refreshments.
• Maintains and updates a variety of agency files, records, lists, and databases. Enters data/information into Risk Management Information System, to maintain and update data/information. Generates a variety of reports from database system(s). Scans and files documents into an electronic data warehouse.
• Receives, opens, time stamps, and distributes incoming mail.
• Receives and reviews invoices, identifies appropriate general ledger code, enters information into system, generates checks for payment of invoices, obtains necessary signatures, and mails payment to vendors.
• Answers multi-line telephone, screens callers/customers, responds to questions and provides general information regarding. Refers callers/customers to the proper individual for handling when appropriate.
• Monitors, maintains, and updates information on the Authority’s external website and intranet. Ensures that information is accurate and current and provides feedback and updated information to the webmaster.
• Gathers and compiles data and information for general purposes and/or special reports or projects such as the annual report; contacts other divisions, employees, agencies, and individuals for additional material, as necessary.
• Operates a variety of office equipment, including copiers, scanners, fax machines, computers, and printers.
• Provides administrative support to the General Manager, Finance Officer, Claims Administrator, and other staff, as necessary. Maintains calendars, schedules appointments/conference rooms, screens appointments and/or refers to appropriate sources to organize and coordinate staff appointments.
• Designs and creates a variety of brochures, flyers, newsletters, forms, and/or training materials utilizing graphics/publishing software.

About The Position:

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Deputy Sheriff’s perform a wide variety of patrol officer and related duties required to effectively respond to and resolve the normal scope of peace situations, including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, report writing, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public and perform related duties as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to a specific geographic area for patrol, investigations, crime prevention or other peace officer-related functions. 

The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II, in an effort to fill current vacancies and expand staffing levels. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department.  The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

About Detention Services & Yuba County:

Our Department believes people can change and we can be instrumental in supporting that change.  We are  a small workplace family that supports one another to accomplish our mission and allow our team members to live full lives outside the workplace. Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. Our Department is the administrative agency responsible for the management and daily operation of the facility. The shared goal of facility staff is to provide youth with support and tools that will assist them with successfully reintegrating back into the community.  Staff are provided with state mandated relevant training, which includes youth trauma; crisis management; cultural competence; mental health awareness; sexual abuse and harassment; and proper use of force.    

IMPORTANT: 

• All qualified applicants will be  required  to participate in the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), Correctional Officer & Probation Officer series exam. Additional details with specifics will follow after the  published application review date.
