The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in safety and insurance, with hands-on experience in general liability claims, workers’ compensation, and claims investigation. The candidate is comfortable taking a deep dive into safety programs. This individual is highly collaborative, able to work effectively across departments, and skilled at clearly explaining processes, requirements, and projects to both technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate is confident working directly with clients, internal staff, and executive leadership, balancing detail-oriented analysis with strong communication and relationship-building skills.

The Senior Building Inspector conducts routine and complex inspections of buildings and structures at various stages of construction, alteration, and repair to verify compliance with approved plans and applicable building, accessibility, fire, electrical, energy, mechanical, plumbing, zoning, and sign codes. This position also performs plan checks of construction documents, prepares inspection reports, and issues corrective actions when necessary, while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations on all job sites.

Under general supervision, the Senior Building Inspector provides technical assistance to the public, responds to inquiries regarding the construction process, and works collaboratively with other City departments. In addition, this role oversees inspection assignments, supervises and trains building inspectors, serves as the primary staff contact for building inspection complaints and dispute resolution, and performs related duties as assigned.

Experience and Training - Sr. Building Inspector 

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible and recent work experience in building inspection and/or construction. Public sector and lead or supervisory experience is preferred.

License and Certificate:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. 
• Possession of valid Combination Residential Inspector OR Combination Commercial Inspector, AND Plans Examiner certification from an approved agency. 

Special Requirements:

Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments and construction projects. While performing the outdoor duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts around high- voltage energized electrical equipment, climbs scaffolding and ladders, works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and /or humid conditions.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walls; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and /or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

This position performs a variety of work in the monitoring of county, state and federal detainees and maintains the security and safety of inmates and staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Performs booking procedures, including receiving, booking and assigning prisoners to cells; performing body searches; fingerprinting, and photographing prisoners, etc.
• Maintains custody of prisoners’ private property.
• Maintains the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility; monitors security cameras and door warning lights; screens and monitors visitors. Inspects all of inmates’ incoming and outgoing mail and telegrams.
• Inspects facilities regularly.
• Monitors the condition and activities of prisoners.
• Prepares prisoners for court appearances; provides transportation as necessary.
• Administers First Aid in emergency situations.
• Performs general office work, including but not limited to entering computer data, copying and filing documents, etc.
• Prepares and submits required records and reports.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

The Recreation Specialist is a unique position that is primarily responsible for specific projects or long term projects requiring relevant knowledge and expertise.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Coordinate all aspects of a project
• Set up and maintain project files or computer databases as required
• Provide regular project updates including written reports to project leader in a timely manner
• May work independently or in a team environment depending on project requirements
• Provide expertise and support to project leader
• Enforce City policies and procedures
• May be required variable hours including evenings and weekends
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Recreation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Relevant technical skill, education, experience or expertise
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude toward others
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Excellent organizational and supervisory skills, be resourceful, flexible and able to work both alone or as a team member
• Must be reliable and be able to provide transportation

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established. DEFINITION:

The City of Union City’s Community and Recreation Services Department is seeking passionate, motivated, and certified fitness professionals to join the Mark Green Sports Center (MGSC) team as Group Exercise Instructors and/or Personal Trainers. Instead, our Fitness Coordinator assists in client promotion, class opportunities, and professional growth through internal referrals and member engagement. Group Exercise Instructors may join our substitute roster and may be assigned to teach classes aligned with their certification and experience as openings arise.

The Music Instructor is responsible for providing quality music instruction to participants of varying skill levels in a positive and engaging environment. This position requires strong knowledge of music techniques and the ability to plan and deliver lessons that meet individual participants’ needs. The instructor will plan, prepare, and implement music lessons tailored to each participant’s abilities and goals, teaching music theory, aural skills, and practical techniques to individuals and groups. They will also prepare participants for performances or showcases as part of the program, select and acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources, and motivate participants to achieve continuous progress. In addition, the Music Instructor will communicate effectively with recreation staff and parents/caregivers regarding schedules, progress, and participant needs, assess participants’ abilities, provide constructive feedback, and maintain progress records. The Deputy Probation Officer I/II/III position in the Probation Department will investigate cases of juvenile delinquency or dependency and adult applicants for probation; supervise and counsel juveniles and adults on probation; prepares reports and recommendations for court. Provides professional casework services to adult and juvenile offenders involving the referral, supervision and rehabilitation of juveniles and adults on probation; and provides advocacy and related services to victims of crimes. The Deputy Probation Officer III is the advanced journey level position in the class. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

• Prepares and presents reports and recommendations regarding juveniles and adults for the Superior Court.
• Investigates violations of the law by juveniles and adults, and prepares a variety of reports to the court on individuals under the jurisdiction of the court.
• Analyzes and uses information gathered by interviewing the accused and others involved in a case to assess client needs; develops a supervision plan designed to achieve desired behavioral changes; prepares progress reports.
• Arrests juvenile/adult probationers, or makes arrangements through law enforcement agencies for the arrest of juvenile/adult probationers who violate the law or terms of probation; physically restrains juvenile/adult probationers when necessary.
• Makes financial arrangements for the collection and distribution of fines, restitution and other payments.
