The Intern performs routine and/or general assistance tasks with variable difficulty. Depending on the project, the incumbent could work within the City Manager’s Office, Administration, Finance, Community Development, and Public Works departments. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to network with professionals in local government, and to observe firsthand the efforts of the City to resolve complex issues of policy and governance.

The City is currently accepting applications to fill two positions in the Landscape Division at the City’s Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks.
 

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties
• Perform heavy manual labor in the care and maintenance of trees and in performing grounds maintenance
• Install, repair, and program irrigation systems and controllers
• Perform graffiti removal
• Perform routine and emergency work from an aerial lift bucket
• Assist in overseeing the work of contractors
• Assist with the cleanup of encampment and abandon property cleanup efforts 
• Support police personnel in non-enforcement and enforcement situations involving unhoused individuals, including posting, documentation, and storing private property 

Note: Work Schedule – 4/40 (Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Position involves performing after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis.

Join the City of Thousand Oaks as a Plant & Equipment Mechanic!

Are you a skilled, motivated, and technically savvy professional looking to make a difference? The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a Plant & Equipment Mechanic to become an integral part of our team at the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP). In this role, you'll perform a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks, including installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment critical to the plant’s operations. We're looking for a resourceful team player with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

• Identifies and performs a variety of maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and modifications on wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment and facilities, including but not limited to:
  • Mechanical grinders, pumps, valves, engines, blowers, motorized valves actuators, lab equipment, air compressors, etc.
  • Industrial grade machinery, boilers, digester equipment, bulk chemical storage and delivery systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices.
  • Fabricates and or modifies equipment mounts, brackets, supports, utilizing welding, drilling, milling, tapping, etc. 

• Coordinates activities with operations personnel and contractors to ensure efficient and streamlined operations
• Completes and maintains maintenance logs on the City's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Responds to night and weekend emergency calls as needed

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent opportunity for a Combination Building Inspector I/II! 

This position may be filled as Combination Building Inspector I ($36.0157 - $48.2645 per hour) or Combination Building Inspector II ($39.7935 - $53.3271 per hour), depending on candidate experience and qualifications.  

The Combination Building Inspector I/II plays a crucial role in protecting public health, safety, and welfare by reviewing construction projects to ensure compliance with minimum standards. Their inspections cover not only the structural stability of buildings but also key safety aspects such as fire protection, life-safety features, energy efficiency, and the proper functioning of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. 

The Combination Building Inspector must possess excellent customer service and communication skills, be self-motivated, exercise discretion and independent judgment, and project a very professional image through in-person, phone, and e-mail interactions at all times. Additionally, this position will plan check in specialized areas such as plumbing, mechanical and electrical.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Conducts inspection work to enforce building, fire and life safety, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, accessibility, and other related codes and regulations that govern the construction, alteration, repair, and use of buildings and structures.  

• Reads and interprets plans and specifications for inspection on commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Performs pre-construction inspections on complex permits to get familiarized with the project milestones and establish communication channels with the contractor and the design team. 

• Participates in the development of policies and procedures; recommends programs and projects to the inspector supervisor and the inspection team.  

• Ensures a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports the department and City’s mission, objectives, and values. 

• Confers and coordinates with, and provides information and assistance to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and the general public in the field and office; explains and interprets applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.

Minimum Qualifications for consideration - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or a related field. 

Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible wastewater treatment plant and collection system operations and maintenance experience including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. One year of Biological Nutrient Removal Treatment Processing is desirable.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade V certificate is highly desirable.

The Department

The Suisun City Fire Department was established in 1861. The men and women of SCFD take great pride in the customer service that they provide to all who live, work and travel through Suisun City. SCFD is a mission-driven fire agency that remains focused on customers and safety. It is our goal that all members strive to attain a synergistic balance of education, training, and experience to provide excellent emergency management on every call. SCFD is a combination agency staffed with both full-time and volunteer fire personnel. We currently operate two Type 1 Fire Engines, one Type 3 Fire Engine, Ladder Truck, three Command Vehicles, one Type 5 Fire Engine, Zodiac Rescue Boats, and one USAR Trailer. The Suisun City Fire Department is an ALS (Paramedic) level department, supported by Medic Ambulance for transport services. Station 47 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Position

The ideal candidate would know and be responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical care responsibilities, and for the protection of life and property. New incumbents may have limited related experience but are expected to learn the full range of duties and responsibilities, perform duties with minimal direct supervision, and exercise sound judgment and discretion in making decisions. Firefighters work a 48/96 work schedule, comprised of two 24-hour shifts followed by four 24-hour days off, averaging 56 hours per week.

Facility and Sports Field Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel!  This job entails setting up for events and rentals, cleaning the facility and performing light maintenance duties.  We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

We are seeking a hands-on, mechanics and electronics savvy Instrumentation Technician to join our Public Works Sanitation division. This position maintains, repairs, inspects, plans, modifies, designs, installs and calibrates instrumentation, electrical, and SCADA control systems for wastewater treatment facilities; maintains a spare parts inventory; and trains operations staff in the understanding of instrumentation and control systems related to the process operation.

Details:

• Full-time regular position, 9/80 schedule with every other Monday or Friday off.
• Salary range $35.80 to $45.70 hourly with Excellent Benefits.

Our Minimum Qualifications for consideration are:

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in electronics or a related field.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance, repair, fabrication and installation of instrumentation systems in a wastewater treatment system, water distribution, water processing, or other industrial process control environment.
