Position Duties:

The Department is recruiting for part-time, unbenefited Lifeguard and Instructor Lifeguard positions in the Recreation Services Division (RS) for the Citywide Aquatics programming.

The Lifeguard classification is covered by the Minimum Wage Police and pay starts at $17.95 hourly.

The Instructor Lifeguard classification is covered by the Pay Floor Rate and pay starts at $29.45 hourly.

These positions may be required to work variable shifts between the hours of 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Monday – Saturday during the dates of June 16, 2025 - August 8, 2025. Additionally, a MANDATORY training for both Lifeguard and Instructor Lifeguard positions will take place starting the week of June 9, 2025 - June 13, 2025, from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. These positions are part-time, unbenefited with a limit of less than 20 hours per week or less than 1,040 hours per year. There is no guarantee of hours or longevity. All programs adhere to Santa Clara County, Public Health guidelines to ensure the health and well-being of staff. Face coverings and Personal Protective Equipment are provided. Staff may assist with daily health screenings, cleaning, and sanitization in City programs following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. 

Note: Candidates are not required to possess the Lifeguard Training certificate at the time of completing the application or to interview for the position. If selected for the position of Lifeguard, the Citywide Aquatics program will offer Lifeguard Training certification classes, if needed. If selected for the position of Instructor Lifeguard, the Citywide Aquatics program will be offering Lifeguard Training and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's (WSI) certification classes, if needed. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification age requirement is at least 15 years old and the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification age requirement is at least 16 years old. 

If selected to move forward in the conditional offer process, the Lifeguard certification pre course swimming skills test that consists of the following:

• a 300-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke.
• a 2-minute tread using legs only
• the ability to retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft deep, to the surface and swim 20 yds with the weight, using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds. 

Lifeguard:  Lifeguards supervise the conduct of swimmers to maintain safety in the swimming pool. Lifeguards also enforce swimming pool rules and may participate in swim instruction programs; observe swimmers in swimming pools; provide warnings to those who violate the safety rules of the pool and expelling them, if necessary, because of willful disobedience of the rules; rescues swimmers who are in distress; and administers artificial respiration when necessary, according to the prescribed method. Lifeguards may also train and direct the work of lower-level workers as assigned and participate in pool maintenance. Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training’s Authorization Certificate is REQUIRED for the position of Lifeguard. 

Instructor Lifeguard:  In addition to the duties identified for Lifeguards, Instructor Lifeguards also organize and conduct swimming instruction classes for beginners, intermediate, or advanced swimmers at a swimming pool. Duties will include teaching swimming to children, adult individuals, and groups. Instructor Lifeguards may officiate at competitive swim meets. Instructor Lifeguards must also be able to instruct in the techniques of swimming and lifesaving. Possession of a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor’s Authorization Certificate (WSI) is REQUIRED for the position of Instructor Lifeguard.

The Office Assistant II performs general clerical duties related to filing, reception, form processing, record maintenance, mail, typing or data entry; obtains and compares information related to department records, programs, and services; and performs related work as required at the Glenn County Health and Human Services Agency. Specific duties include collecting, sorting, scanning, posting, delivering and picking up mail, correspondence, and documents for all divisions of the agency, driving a van approximately 100 miles per day on a planned courier route within a specific time schedule. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

JOB DUTIES

• Performs routine clerical work as required, which may include copying and filing documents, indexing, processing daily in-coming and out-going mail, faxing information, assembling materials, etc.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Environmental or Civil Engineer to ensure sustainable water solutions and make a positive impact on public health and our environment. In this exciting opportunity you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and optimizing water treatment processes and help develop sustainable practices that ensure clean, safe water for our community. The Environmental/Civil Engineer is primarily assigned to the South County Regional Wastewater Authority (SCRWA) treatment plant. The SCRWA plant has won multiple awards at both the regional and state levels, and is undergoing expansion from 8.5 MGD to 11 MGD capacity. Tasks include permitting, reporting, planning, coordinating, and directing the design, investigation, development, operation, and construction of a wide variety of civil and environmental engineering wastewater projects. Assignments may also relate to wastewater collection, recycled water, and potable water. The Incumbent will need to work effectively with the Senior Environmental Engineer, staff from the cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill, Santa Clara Valley Water District, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, SCRWA legal counsel, and the general public.

Application/Examination

Open to All Candidates. This is an open recruitment welcoming external applicants. Current County of San Mateo and Superior Court employees with at least six months (1,040 hours) of continuous service will receive a five-point bonus on their final examination score. About the Position:

The County of Yuba is currently accepting applications for Building Inspector I/II/III in the Building Department of the Community Development & Services Agency. This is a multi-level class series in which incumbents may be assigned to any one of the three levels depending on organizational needs, professional experience, individual expertise and skill, proficiency gained and complexity of assignments. The Building Inspector series is flexibly staffed through level III.

Building Inspector I – Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn structural, framing, plumbing, electrical, energy consumption, disability access, zoning, and related codes and inspection techniques. As experience is gained, inspections become more complex and are performed under more general supervision. This is the entry level in the building inspection series.   

Building Inspector II – Under limited supervision, this is the journey level in this class series, fully qualified to independently perform diverse inspections. This is the journey level in the building inspection series.  

Building Inspector III – is the advanced journey/lead level in this class series. Incumbents at this level receive general supervision as new or unusual situations arise. As employees progress through these levels, they will be assigned more complex, difficult and/or contentious inspections.

Building Inspector I:

• Perform basic principles and practices of the Building Department for inspections, investigations, code interpretation, permit application intake, review and permit issuance, including record keeping and case management.  Also learns zoning, land use, fire-safe and water quality related regulations.
• Inspect new and existing residential properties, and other building and construction elements for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specifications and standards related to foundations, framing, electrical, plumbing and other structural and functional elements.
• Maintain professional development and continuing education activities, study for and pass certification exams to maintain certification requirements.

Building Inspector II:

• Learn inspection practices and procedures for non-residential commercial and industrial projects, new and existing.
• Perform inspections of new and existing buildings, building and construction elements and structures with limited supervision.
• Investigate complaints regarding existing buildings or new construction to determine if code violations or problem conditions exist; resolve problems or refer them to the supervisor for resolution.

Building Inspector III:

• Provide lead direction, training and work review to professional and technical staff; organize and assign work, set priorities and follow-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; provide input into performance evaluations.
• Perform plan reviews and field inspections of a complex and difficult nature; respond to highly sensitive, complex, or technical complaints; make on-site visits to validate the nature of the complaint and recommend solutions.
• Independently perform full range of Building Inspection duties including conducting and documenting multiple inspections; maintain accurate and separate records for each inspection.

Detective Assignment

• Serve on assigned taskforce including gang or drug taskforce; gather knowledge about individuals or groups who are involved in criminal activity in order to understand how they function, describe their current activities, forecast future action they may undertake, and provide intelligence and resources that will eradicate criminal activity; coordinate and participate in multi-jurisdictional intelligence gathering and suppression operations;
• Receive, review, and analyze reports and case information on law enforcement activities requiring special and detailed investigations;
• Coordinate and conduct complete and detailed investigations of crimes involving juveniles and adults, crimes against persons and property including child and elder abuse claims, homicides, rape and assaults with deadly weapons, and crimes involving vice, gaming, and narcotics violations; follow cases from reporting, to arrest, to prosecution;

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

PATTERN I – ACADEMY LEVEL

• Must be currently enrolled or attending POST certified basic law enforcement academy or have successfully completed a POST certified basic academy not more than three (3) years prior to the date of application.
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB 2.  Ineligibility or decertification from POST will automatically disqualify candidate from holding a peace officer classification.

PATTERN II –ENTRY/ADVANCED LEVEL

Education/Training:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional college level course work and specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field is highly desirable. An Associates degree is highly desirable.

Experience:

• Some work experience as a California peace officer or other work experience that demonstrates a general aptitude for police work.

PATTERN III –LATERAL TRANSFER

• Successfully completed (at any time) a California POST certified basic law enforcement academy: AND
• Must be currently employed in a California law enforcement agency with at least one (1) year of full-time experience as a sworn peace officer with a California law enforcement agency, and be eligible for appointment as a Peace Officer under Section 830.1 PC; AND
• Must possess a basic POST certificate issued by California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training or other documentation to substantiate your eligibility.
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB 2.  Ineligibility or decertification from POST will automatically disqualify candidate from holding a peace officer classification.

In addition to either Pattern I, II or III:

License or Certificate:

• Graduate from high school or passage of high school level General Education Development (GED) test: AND
• Possess and maintain an appropriate, valid driver’s license; AND
• Not less than 21 years of age at time of appointment; AND

• Qualify for or possess a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate upon completion of the probationary period; AND
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB2.  Ineligibility or decertification from POST will automatically disqualify a candidate from holding a peace officer classification; AND

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! 

Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures. 

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Swim Instructor training will be provided once hired.**

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings. 
• Summer Swim Lessons run on Monday-Thurday mornings (7:45 am – 12:00 pm), Monday-Thurday evenings (3:45 pm - 8:00 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 
• Off-Season Swim Lessons run on Monday/Wednesday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), Tuesday/Thursday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position provides swim instruction to adults and children and conducts related work as required
• Swim Instructors teach, supervise, and assess students of all ages and abilities
• Teach group and private swim lessons to adults and children of all abilities
• Use proper teaching tools, equipment, and techniques while teaching swim lessons
• Maintain order and prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons in the pool area.
