The Senior Engineer, Railroad Structures reports to the Manager, Engineering Structures and Facilities, and is responsible for Caltrain corridor engineering, construction support of capital improvement projects, engineering design and maintenance support of facilities, including maintenance facilities and historical stations, project planning support, and design studies support for railroad structures including railroad stations, and railroad facilities for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).

Essential Functions & Duties

Examples of Essential Functions:

• · Provide engineering architectural and design support related to design review, renovations, structural improvements and repairs for Rail Operations, Capital Projects, Construction Management, and other Caltrain departments.

• · Works closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to maintain railroad facilities, structures, tracks, tunnels and bridges (civil/structural).

• · Review and perform capacity calculations on railway structures, design reviews and capital improvement projects to protect the integrity of the railroad structures, including historical preservation and to ensure technical requirements are met.

• · Oversee projects to be performed by outside agencies (3rd party projects) working on Caltrain property.

• · Participate in capital project development studies including consultant negotiations, estimating, and scheduling.

• · Identify root causes of engineering structural issues and present appropriate solutions.

Examples of Essential Duties:

• · Review engineering design project documents including plans, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, project schedules, and constructability review reports.

• · Review project design documents, interface with Caltrain Operations, monitor construction progress, and inspect construction fieldwork.

• · Assist in monitoring and directing the railroad maintenance contractor for Caltrain structures.

• · Perform on-site and routine inspection required by FRA, provide analysis and condition assessment of existing railroad structures.

• · Monitor third party vendors on capital projects to protect the Agency’s infrastructure and operational interests.

• · Provide responsible and professional staff assistance to higher level management on projects and related matters.

• · Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.

• · Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• · Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering, or another related field.

• · Four (4) years of progressively increasing responsibility in structural engineering.

About The Position:

General

The Deputy Director, Traction Power and OCS, reports to the Director, Engineering, and is responsible for the development and management of Engineering systems and lead projects and programs related to 25kV AC Traction Power, Overhead Contact System, Grounding and Bonding and EMC for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).

Essential Functions & Duties

• Serve as an agency subject matter expert for all 2X25kV AC railway Traction power and OCS related issues to provide expert recommendations and assistance to executive leadership on Traction Power, OCS, grounding and Bonding, EMC and safety standards for Caltrain railroad network.

• Responsible for establishing and implementing the engineering processes for all traction power-related systems, including developing and maintaining 2x25kV AC Electrification Standards.

• Provide management and oversight of Traction Power related activities related to Engineering.

• Lead the development of performance indicators for Caltrain and the actions needed to improve or correct performance and the capture and analysis of Traction Power and OCS data, to include Electrical Traction power concerns, accident/incident data, and trends.

• Drive innovations and improvements to increase the reliability, availability, effectiveness and efficiency of the Traction Power/OCS assets and maintenance programs. 

• Assure compliance with the Agency’s Transit Asset Management Program for traction power and OCS systems.

• Provide technical guidance for the work performed by the railroad contract operator to maintain traction power and OCS systems.

• Provide engineering leadership to the Contract Operator’s Maintenance Department to resolve and repair failed traction power equipment.

• Responsible for the development of maintenance requirements for traction power and OCS assets.

• Lead all initiatives related to process improvements and change management. Ensures Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are communicated and followed.

• Serve as a liaison and a lead contact person with utilities and regulatory agencies to ensure regulatory compliance for all Traction Power related positions.

• Liaison with internal and external stakeholders on Caltrain commuter rail operations and maintenance, planning, and safety departments for any traction power related issues.

• Provide technical input to the Planning department to develop project scopes.

• Make recommendations to contractors, project managers and lead engineers in the areas of Traction Power performance in accordance with the contract.

• Develop, implement, and maintain budgeting of the projects and programs related to traction power Engineering and monitor their financial health.

• Develop and maintain budgetary requirements for engineering projects. 

• Supervise staff. Hire, mentor, and take appropriate corrective and/or disciplinary action. Ensure EEO policies and procedures are followed. Participate in selection of staff. Coordinate staff training and professional development. Establish performance objectives. Monitor and evaluate employee performance.

Examples of Essential Duties:

• Identify Traction Power infrastructure quality concerns and propose solutions.  

• Develop cost estimates for Traction Power and OCS projects

• Lead engineering design reviews for capital projects, ensuring compliance with Caltrain standards, codes and regulations, and industry guidelines.

• Represent Caltrain with the Federal Railroad Administration, California Public Utilities Commission, and other government regulatory agencies, as well as the public and transit/funding agencies.

• Plan and develop the implementation of operating rules and policies for the Traction Power and OCS System.  

• Lead and assess all reports related to Traction Power equipment failures, underperformance, and safety violations.  

• Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.  

• Lead the audit process, certification inspections, and regulatory requirements following alterations or improvements to the Traction Power and OCS system.  

• Establish predictive Traction Power and OCS maintenance programs for critical infrastructure assets to increase availability, resiliency, reduce repairs and service interruptions, and improve maintenance efficiency.  

• Identify Traction Power infrastructure quality concerns and propose solutions.  

• Develop cost estimates for Traction Power and OCS projects. 

• Responsible for training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and communicating policy changes and updates.

• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.

Minimum Qualifications

There is one (1) Full Time, Regular Hire position in the Building & Safety Division.

This position provides non-engineering review of construction and alteration plans for residential, commercial and industrial structures; critically evaluates technical data to detect deviations from legal requirements; supports building permit applicants and design professionals either in person at the counter or via phone or email by answering building code related questions; works with building technicians by answering building code questions and helps move applicants through the permit process; investigates complaints of Building Code or Municipal Code violations and can guide applicants through the permit process and requirements; performs related duties and special assignments that may include sensitive site investigations and report generation related to accessibility compliance or code enforcement, preparation of requested compliance forms, handouts and procedural manuals.

Hybrid schedule: 
The Community Development Agency has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. During the initial probationary period, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.

Minimum Qualifications:
Equivalent to completion of two years of college or technical school training with major course work related to the plan checking, the construction trades or a field related to the work and two years of experience in either reviewing plans for compliance with codes and ordinances or in inspecting a variety of structures for such compliance and conformance to plans and specifications. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

Certificates and Licenses:
Consistent with California State law, certification by the International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent in plans examination, accessibility, or green building must be obtained within two years. Failure to obtain certification within two years may result in release from employment. Certification must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
 
Additional Requirements: Must complete a minimum of 45 hours of qualified continuing education in every three-year period with at least 8 hours regarding disability access requirements.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City’s Library Department – Downtown Library; Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library – is looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with customers of all ages in a challenging and fun environment, and who are interested in working 10-15 hours per week including day, evening and weekend hours.

DEFINITION

Responsible for the day-to-day responsibilities related to municipal traffic operations within the Town of Danville. Perform a variety of professional and technical level traffic and transportation engineering tasks, including traffic system planning, design and operation, and traffic control systems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Transportation Manager.  May exercise supervision over additional professional, technical and/or support staff as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct technical and administrative work in the functional areas of traffic operations, Downtown area, residential parking, and transportation planning and design.
• Manage the Town’s traffic signal and traffic control devices network in conjunction with the Transportation Manager.
• Serve as the public interface for matters related to traffic safety and circulation; develop and implement solutions with creative and professional use of acceptable traffic engineering standards. 
• Prepare traffic studies related to local traffic circulation and review traffic studies generated through the development review process, as directed. 
• Review collision reports and prepare and maintain collision diagrams.
• Conduct and maintain Traffic and Engineering Surveys.
• Review and comment on traffic signal plans and assist with oversight of traffic signal construction and modifications, as directed.
• Work in collaboration with traffic signal maintenance personnel to manage and troubleshoot issues related to traffic signal operations/equipment and electronic traffic control devices.
• Monitor traffic signal network operations through the Town’s centralized traffic signal monitoring system.
• Serve as project manager for transportation-related Capital Improvement Projects and studies, as directed.
• Conduct special research projects, including compiling and analyzing information; develop recommendations on courses of action; deliver concise, effective presentations to the Town Council, Town Commissions and members of the public.
• Coordinate with Police Department personnel to respond to public concerns related to traffic safety and circulation and parking.
• Provide staff support to other departments, boards, and commissions as directed.
• Maintain current program content om Town websites.
• Prepare and manage professional services contracts.
• Research and stay current on traffic engineering and transportation planning regulations, practices and technology.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Fundamentals of traffic engineering inclusive of multi-modal transportation applications and practices.
• Signs and pavement markings standards; intersection and roadway capacity practices; intersection design; residential street design and traffic control.
• Transportation impact study elements and preparation processes; traffic signal operations; on‑ and off‑street parking standards; traffic control devices; and pavement management.
• GIS, AutoCAD, and general software applications.
• Traffic engineering-related software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, and Crossroads is preferred.

Ability to:

• Interpret plans and specifications; some GIS knowledge.
• Research and stay current on traffic engineering and transportation planning regulations, practices and technology.
• Prepare clear and concise written reports and correspondence, deliver presentations before the Town Council and members of the public, and facilitate meetings.
• Design and review traffic control plans.
• Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with fellow employees and outside agencies in a team approach and the public.
• Work a varied schedule, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible full-time experience or eight (8) years of part-time experience in traffic engineering, or closely related field, including drafting, surveying, and other specialized traffic training, licensure, etc. Background in transportation, planning, transportation engineering, or public administration in a community development environment is desirable. Public sector experience preferred. 

Education:

An Associate degree in transportation, planning, transportation engineering, or closely related field. 

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire. Professional Engineer, Professional Traffic Operations Engineer, or California Traffic Engineers license is preferred. Valid Construction Zone Safety Certification. Valid Signs and Markings Certification.

We are seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the City of Live Oak as a Part-Time Recreation Leader. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities for community members of all ages. About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff. Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Requirements: Must have the ability to  learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations ; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (Thursdays/Fridays off).  Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.
