Library Assistant I: $31.49 - $35.19 hourly

• Library Assistant II: One year of public contact and support experience in a library.

About Maple Street Correctional Center
Designed to create a better environment for incarcerated individuals and staff and to help reduce recidivism, the facility was the first correctional center built as part of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s initiative to shift nonviolent, nonsexual offenders from overcrowded state prisons to county-run facilities. The center accommodates female and lower-risk male incarcerated individuals and is composed of two separate but interconnected buildings with a central administration area.

The facility’s architecture emphasizes safety, rehabilitation, and natural light. Instead of placing cells along the exterior walls as in most jails, the design features a curved glass façade with dayrooms located along windowed areas that open to individual living units. This layout improves supervision while allowing daylight to enter the building, helping the white-painted cells feel more open and spacious.

Each floor has a central core station supporting four housing units. These areas include classrooms, a computer lab, and multipurpose rooms to support educational and rehabilitative programming. Additional design elements include natural ventilation, a large rooftop recreation yard, artwork depicting scenes from nature, and a calming natural color palette.

An attached 88-bed transitional housing facility supports alternative sentencing programs such as day reporting, weekend programs, and other supervised custody arrangements, helping prepare individuals for reentry into the community.

• 99-yard obstacle course in under 23 seconds

IMPORTANT: When you report for the test, inform The Academy that you are applying to be a Correctional Officer with San Mateo County. San Mateo County Correctional Officer applicants will not be required to participate in climbing the 6-foot chain link fence or 6-foot solid wall portion of the WSTB test.

Examples Of Duties

Sheriff's Correctional Officer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and guard inmates in the correctional facilities.  
• Take custody of inmates’ property.  
• Maintain records of bookings, releases, transfers, money and other functions of the correctional facilities.
• Prepare inmates for court and for release.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

If designated as Correctional Deputy, also perform the following:

• Transport and provide security for inmates at the hospital.
• Transport inmates between custodial facilities.
• Provide security for inmates at court.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

DEFINITION

Under the general direction of the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Specialist performs complex and responsible technical human resources functions independently with minimal supervision. • Coordinate workers' compensation claims processing and administration, including coordination with third-party administrators.
• Analyze trends in work-related injuries to identify opportunities for risk reduction and process improvements.
• Administer recruitment processes, analyze recruitment efforts, and research new recruitment opportunities to enhance staffing effectiveness.
• Manage employee benefits programs, including researching, recommending, and implementing new offerings such as flexible spending accounts and 529 college savings plans.
• Participate in the development and implementation of human resources policies related to recruitment, benefits, and employee relations.
• Coordinate employee benefits enrollments and changes and assist with open enrollment processes.
• Serve as a liaison between management and employees to ensure compliance with labor laws including ADA and EEO, maintaining accurate and confidential personnel records.
• Respond to employee inquiries and verification requests regarding benefits and HR policies.
• May provide training or coaching to employees and new hires regarding HR programs and policies.
• Review and assist in recommending improvements to Human Resources policies and procedures based on analytical findings.
• Assist in directing special projects related to human resources functions to ensure strategic goals are met.
• Provide support during labor negotiations and collective bargaining processes, including analyzing labor agreements and Memoranda of Understanding to inform negotiation strategies and ensure district compliance.
• May represent the Human Resources Director in meetings or functions and exercise limited operational command on Human Resources analytical matters during the Director’s absence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Possession of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with significant coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related fields, and three years of increasingly responsible experience in human resources or a related field; OR

Five years of increasingly responsible experience in human resources or related field with emphasis on workers' compensation administration, recruitment, or HR reporting functions.
 

Experience working in a California public agency is preferred. Additional professional certifications such as the Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) are highly desirable.

About the Position
 
The Engineering Division evaluates permit applications and reviews permit renewals for equipment and operations that emit air pollutants in the Air District’s jurisdiction. The division provides technical support to other agency programs and assists businesses, trade associations, agencies, environmental groups, and community members with issues related to permitting and compliance.
  
 Beyond specific permitting work, some of the important programs and projects in which the Engineering Division are actively engaged include but not limited to:

• Emissions modeling of toxic air contaminants including Health Risk Assessments
• Verification of emissions inventories
• Data/database development and management
