WOODLAND JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HOST SITE

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WJUSD Business Services Office and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WJUSD staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

 

This posting is for the Logistics & Inventory Systems Fellow within the Transportation Department in Business Services at WJUSD.  

 

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Service Center is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support inventory organization and management of parts and materials essential to district operations. This role provides hands-on experience in warehouse operations, inventory systems, and process improvement within a public education environment.

The Fellow will assess current storage and inventory practices and help implement a more efficient, organized system. Responsibilities may include developing labeling structures, organizing storage areas, establishing inventory tracking procedures, and improving material accessibility for staff. In collaboration with Service Center personnel, the Fellow will identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, organization, and accountability.

This fellowship offers practical experience in warehouse logistics, operational system design, and cross-functional collaboration, while building skills in organization, problem-solving, and process improvement within a public sector setting.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general directions from the designated WCC host-site employee.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated individual interested in operations, logistics, engineering, business, or public service. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and willing to take initiative to improve organization and efficiency.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn new systems, and the ability to think critically about processes. Interest in organization, data tracking, or hands-on operational work such as inventory or warehouse systems is desirable. Experience with spreadsheets or data entry is helpful but not required.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and reliability. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys solving practical challenges and contributing to systems that help organizations run effectively.

 

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of the position are to:

1. Accurately assess and document current inventory of parts and materials within the WJUSD Service Center, including storage locations, item categories, and current organizational practices.

2. Review existing storage systems to identify inefficiencies, inconsistencies, or gaps, and coordinate with Service Center, Maintenance, and Transportation staff to improve organization.

3. Develop and implement a standardized organizational structure for parts and materials, including clear storage locations, labeling practices, and logical grouping of inventory.

4. Improve inventory accessibility and efficiency by helping establish procedures that allow staff to quickly locate, store, and track commonly used materials.

5. Create simple documentation and reference materials to support consistent inventory organization practices, including basic procedures for storing and locating materials.

6. Develop a working understanding of school district operational support systems, including how the Service Center supports Maintenance, Facilities, and Transportation functions.

7. Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to improve inventory organization, storage workflows, and material tracking practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

 

SALARY RANGE

$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

THE POSITION

The City of Daly City is seeking a dynamic and experienced Economic Development Program Manager to join the Office of the City Manager. The Economic Development Program Manager plays a vital role in fostering relationships with the business community, developing and implementing economic development strategies, all while providing direct support to meet business needs. DEFINITION

Under the direction of the City Manager or their designee, the Economic Development Program Manager develops, coordinates, and implements the City’s economic development programs and related activities; works with commercial and retail businesses, developers and property owners and managers on potential opportunity sites, assists applicants and business in their dealings with the City, initiates key economic activities based on the City’s General Plan, provides economic data to inform key city policy decisions; manages Grant funding opportunities for economic development, develops and implements marketing, branding and outreach activities for attraction and retention of businesses in Daly City and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Develop and update the City’s Economic Development and Business Strategy and develop an action plan to implement the strategy and economic development programs on a citywide basis.
• Manage grant and funding opportunities to support economic initiatives; oversee administration of economic development grants and contracts.
• Develop financing sources for various programs through communication and negotiation with agencies of the State and Federal government, the private sector and nonprofit foundations.
• Facilitate the attraction, retention, growth and success of Daly City businesses through active engagement, business assistance, provision of information, marketing, and outreach.
• Conduct feasibility assessments for establishing Business Improvement District (BID)
• Oversee and coordinate Economic Development events and festivals.
• Serve as Primary Liaison to the Small Business Commission
• Administer Regulatory Business Programs
• Participate in business conferences related to Economic Development
• Be active in the real estate environment to track real estate trends and work with developers and property owners or property managers to identify and evaluate opportunity sites that are vacant or likely to change hands
• Continuously valuate and review economic development program goals, objectives, and strategies and recommend changes to programs, policies or procedures that will facilitate ongoing success to attract and recruit new businesses to activate and fill vacant commercial spaces.
• Identify, develop and analyze data to assess trends, issues and opportunities affecting businesses and the City in order to effectively support local businesses.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce and effectively maintain the relationship between the Daly City/Colma Chamber of Commerce, and other private and public organizations related to business and economic development.
• Create and foster effective business relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate business attraction and retention that will support the economic development and growth of the City.
• Identify and recommend revisions to ordinances and policies that may hinder business operations to improve economic conditions, functionality and aesthetics.
• Assist applicants, business representatives and developers in dealings with the City on the entitlement and building permit approval process and other needs.
• May assist in the recommendation of policies and programs pertaining to the fiscal and economic development of the City.
• Prepare reports and make presentations to business and community groups, City Commissions and Boards, City Council and the public.
• May prepare and administer the budget for Economic Development Program.
• Supervise and train one Economic Development Program Specialist
• Professionally and effectively represent the City of Daly City in developing relationships between the City and representatives of private sector development opportunities, business community and city staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principals, issues and practices of economic and commercial development, redevelopment, land use planning and permitting, business retention, public policy and business development including best practices, marketing/marketing research; statistical analysis and research methods and the sources of information and data pertaining to economic development, business retention; evaluation and analysis of pro formas; the State of California Redevelopment Law; private sector development techniques; Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning economic development activity in urban areas, real estate, public land acquisition, redevelopment and land use; Federal and State Grants regulations, Grant writing and grant administration oversight and implementation experience; Effective methods of gaining consensus and building support for objectives; Principles and practices of organization, administration, budget and supervision.

Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Supervise, train, and evaluate one employee. Effectively prepare grants, written reports and recommendations; prepare and present reports at public meetings; deal effectively with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, City officials, local commissions; provide strong administrative, fiscal management and policy analysis skills; be professional, respond to phone and electronic correspondence in a timely manner to the public and city employees, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education: Graduation from college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Planning, Public Administration or a related field.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience and demonstrated proficiency in economic development, real estate financing, commercial real estate, redevelopment, or planning, including two years of supervisory experience. Working knowledge of California planning law and practice is desirable.

License: Possession of a valid California Class C California Drivers License.

This may include reviewing recycling programs, observing waste management practices at school sites, and identifying opportunities to improve sustainability efforts. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities staff, the Fellow will help research best practices and develop practical recommendations to improve environmental outcomes and operational efficiency.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting for non-sworn Police Officer Trainee candidates. This is for individuals that have no prior law enforcement experience and have not received POST certified police academy training. Trainees are paid while attending a POST-certified Police Academy. The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Parks Division is in charge of planning and maintaining the city’s parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and other landscaping. There are approximately 25 parks and play lots, including Sign Hill Park, which has 60 acres of open space, and Centennial Way Linear Park, a 3-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail. Amenities include Centennial Dog Park, bocce ball courts, an above-ground skate park, a variety of ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic shelters and group picnic areas.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION:

The ideal Park Maintenance Worker will be able to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks while working cooperatively with a variety of people, consistently ensuring excellent customer service. Capable of organizing duties, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal supervision to maintain parks and public facilities according to established standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in park and landscape maintenance, as well as an understanding of occupational hazards and related safety practices.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains all types of landscaped areas through mowing, watering, planting, trimming, weeding, and fertilizing.
• Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
• Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chippers, and related grounds and tree maintenance equipment.
• Cleans and perform minor repairs to park and recreation equipment, buildings, and related facilities; maintains and prepares athletic fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of sprinkler systems; assists in the maintenance and minor repair of power-driven equipment.
• As assigned, works extended or irregular hours.
• Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in parks and landscape maintenance work is preferred. 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

SALARY RANGE
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

 

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.

Job Description:  

The City Manager’s Office has a full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry-level professional basis.

 

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to, town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research, and govern a technology assessment. The position will serve as a regular staff member and will receive assignments and work direction from the Management Analyst and City Manager. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate with an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

The City of Menlo Park's Information Technology team is seeking a temporary IT Specialist who has a broad range of support skills to provide day to day computer/desktop support, end-point configuration and management, helpdesk support and management, and maintain and troubleshoot various systems hardware, software, peripherals, A/V, telephones and mobile devices. Support to be provided onsite throughout the City at physical workstations, as well as via phone, video, email and internet.

This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering valuable experience in information technology and public service.

About the City

The City of Half Moon Bay is a Bay Area coastal community of approximately 12,500 residents and is located 25 miles south of San Francisco. The City is governed by a five-member elected City Council and utilizes the council-manager form of government. The City Council appoints a City Manager who is responsible for the oversight of daily operations and provides leadership for the City’s programs. The City currently employs 40 full-time employees in the following departments: City Manager’s Office, Administrative Services and Finance, Community Development, Public Works, and Communications/ City Clerk. About the Position

The Public Works Department is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern with an interest in engineering, project management, and public service. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in local government operations and civil engineering under general supervision and mentorship from professional staff.

The selected intern will assist with a variety of projects and ongoing assignments, which may include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects, including design and construction

• Supporting engineering project managers with clerical, administrative, and technical tasks

• Researching and analyzing programs and initiatives

• Updating internal procedures and policies

• Creating and editing CAD maps, designs, and standards (AutoCAD)

• Participating in field data collection, investigations, and analysis

• Researching development, zoning, and land use-related issues

• Performing engineering support services

• Drafting and editing reports

• Providing customer service

• Attending departmental and community meetings

• Opportunity to present a report to the City Council

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education & Experience

• Some completed coursework toward an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is desired but not required.

Knowledge of:

• Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

• Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop)

• AutoCAD

• Local government operations (preferred)
