Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Fleet and Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for planning, assigning, supervising, training, and assisting mechanics in the routine preventive maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of structural, mechanical, and electrical systems at Bus Transit facilities. This includes overseeing shop equipment, automated fueling systems, revenue fare collection equipment, passenger amenities, and signage.

The Chief Mechanic - Building Maintenance is a working position that combines the duties of the Mechanic - Building Maintenance classification with skilled supervisory responsibilities. These include supervising work crews, scheduling tasks, managing projects, and providing training and mentorship to subordinate employees. Additionally, the position is accountable for generating detailed written and electronic reports on facility and equipment conditions, documenting maintenance and repairs performed, and outlining ongoing maintenance needs.

Essential Responsibilities

• Plans, supervises and participates in work assignments for all employees supervised
• Evaluates job performance and knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) of all employees being supervised.
• Provides training, mentoring and feedback to personnel
• Issues 2nd level of progressive discipline, counseling, and written letters of reprimand to employees supervised. This position will not be responsible for administering discipline at subsequent levels.
• Interprets and enforces District rules, regulations, and policies
• Assures proper completion of job assignments with minimum expense and maximum productivity 
• Certifies records of work in progress and completed, including timecards, material requisitions, maintenance records and equipment counts when required.
• Collaborates closely with supervisors of oncoming and off going shifts to assure maximum daily productivity and continuity of work

• Coordinates with stores personnel to ensure adequate materials and supplies are available to complete ongoing and scheduled work
• Responsible for cleaning and safe housekeeping in work areas
• Ensures that occupational health and safety practices and procedures are strictly followed
• Refers any problems to Fleet and Facilities Manager, recommending action required
• Opens and closes work orders in Maximo and enters all pertinent information
• Performs other computerized recordkeeping as required

The Position

The Veterinary Technician will assist in the care of animal patients at the City’s animal shelter. San Mateo County Health’s Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division (BHRS) is excited to launch a new and innovative role supporting individuals newly eligible for services under Senate Bill (SB) 43.  This position is part of a brand-new team created specifically to serve a historically underserved population, expanding access to care for individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) and/or severe substance use disordered (SUD). 

This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape how SB43 is implemented locally, from building systems and partnerships to developing policies, procedures and outcome measures that will define success for this pilot program and beyond. 

The SB43 Program Specialist will work collaboratively with the Facilities Utilization Management, Collaborative Care teams and partners across San Mateo County Health, including Aging and Disability Services, San Mateo Medical Center and regional hospitals and licensed facilities. This position requires strong clinical judgement, systems thinking and the ability to build trust across disciplines and organizations.

There is currently one vacancy for this program.  The position is based in San Mateo, with travel throughout the county and greater Bay Area as needed.

About SB43

Senate Bill (SB) 43 expands the definition of Grave Disability, one of the criteria used to place individuals on involuntary holds. 

Under SB43:

• Severe substance use disorder is added as a qualifying condition.
• Inability to provide for personal safety or necessary medical care is included as a criterion.

• Individuals may be considered gravely disabled when a mental health disorder and/or severe substance use disorder prevents them from meeting basic survival needs, such as maintaining housing or adequate nutrition. 

This legislation enables earlier intervention and expanded pathways to care for individuals who previously fell outside the system, requiring counties to build new processes, partnerships and clinical approaches to serve this population effectively and compassionately. 

Key Responsibilities 

The SB43 Program Specialist may be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: 

Clinical Care & Coordination

• Conduct regular visits to in-county and out-of-county (OOC) facilities to review cases and assess appropriate Level of Care (LOC)
• Meet with facility staff and clients to support engagement, transitions and treatment planning
• Participate in treatment reviews and provide clinical recommendations, including individualized behavior plans
• Initiate and coordinate case conferences for high-utilizing clients complex needs

Serve as a clinical resource related to substance use disorder and severe mental illness 

Systems Building and Collaboration

• Build and maintain strong relationships with hospitals, licensed facilities and contracted providers within and outside San Mateo County
• Act as primary liaison between BHRS, San Mateo Medical Center, Aging and Disability Services and partner hospitals
• with the SMMC, BHRS and AAS to facilitate and coordinate appropriate level of care and placement
• Participate regularly in multidisciplinary team meetings, hospital coordination meetings and SB43 meetings
• Facilitate planning groups to address SB43 implementation priorities and emerging system needs

Program Development and Oversight

• Contribute to the development, refinement and implementation of SB43 policies and procedures
• Identify Service gaps, system challenges and operational shortfalls, and support solutions in collaboration with partners

• Assist with monitoring and consulting with in-county and OOC contract providers
• Train facilities on new SB43 placement criteria and compliance requirements
• Develop, update and maintain an electronic facility database to support data tracking and outcomes analysis

Leadership and Support

• Participating in required leadership meetings
• Providing coverage and support for other supervisors as needed
• Provide clinical supervision and training to interdisciplinary staff as needed
• Apply basic knowledge of Listen, Empathize, Agree, and Partner (LEAP) Methodology and other engagement strategies to support client-centered care

The Position

The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for Per-Diem Public Safety Dispatchers. The San Bruno Police Department has a long-standing tradition of small-town service with big-city dedication to public safety. Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This is a per-diem position. Shifts are offered based on staffing needs, and per-diem employees may choose the open shifts that are available. Available shifts may include day, swing, or graveyard hours, including weekends, and holidays. Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions. This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.

In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes. Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

The San Mateo Police Department is accepting applications for Police Officer Trainee

Equivalent to completion of an Associate's degree from an accredited college

License and Certificates:

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Possession of a POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) written examination certificate with a preferred T-Score of 52 or above and a passing score for the WSTB physical agility examination. Or possession of a National Testing Network Law Enforcement written examination certificate with a preferred score in the 90th percentile and a passing score for the WSTB physical agility examination.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Free of any felony convictions.

Effective January 1, 2023, peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. There are no specific citizenship requirements per Senate Bill 2. California Government Code Section 1031(h) limits employment authorization documents to those consistent with Section 274a.2 of Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Specific documentation requirements can be found on the I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification form issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Government Code section 1031(g) permits departments to adopt additional and/or higher standards.

Age not less than 21-years-old at time of appointment to the rank of police officer.

Vision in each eye, correctable to at least 20/30.

The Position:

This is a non-sworn classification structured for incumbents hired for the purpose of becoming a sworn police officer.  Police Officer Trainees are hired into this civilian position for the period prior and during the time they are assigned to a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Upon successful completion of training at the academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees are sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer.  Police Officer Trainee benefits are limited to those of a civilian employee.

The Department:

Consists of a diverse and outstanding group of men and women who have dedicated themselves to public service. Our staff, which consists of 113 sworn police officers and 40 civilian positions, is devoted to protecting and serving the citizens of San Mateo professionally, while providing outstanding customer service.

This recruitment will remain open until filled. This recruitment is running concurrently with HR26-04 and may be used to fill one position at either classification, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
