The County of San Mateo Coroner's Office is seeking a dedicated and compassionate candidate to fill the role of Deputy Coroner.

The Coroner's Office promptly investigates and determines the mode, manner and cause of death of decedents under the Coroner's jurisdiction. Services are provided in an efficient and courteous manner, respecting the needs of the families involved. As of October 2025, the Coroner’s Office has moved to a brand new location consolidating all divisions and featuring state-of-the-art forensic facilities.

About the Role

Deputy Coroners are expected to provide the highest level of professional services in determining the identification of the deceased, collecting and preserving evidence, collecting records, notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal effects of decedents, and working closely with all agencies concerned with the decedent's death.

Under general supervision, the Deputy Coroner investigate circumstances pertaining to the death of a human being, determine the identification of the deceased, collect and preserve evidence, collect records, notify the next of kin, safeguard personal effects of decedents, work closely with all agencies concerned with the decedent’s death and prepare and submit reports on the death to the Coroner.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate deaths falling under the jurisdiction of the Coroner.
• Report findings to determine necessity for inquests.
• Take photographs for forensic pathologist and case file.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Lift and move bodies of the deceased.
• Take charge of bodies, evidence and property of the deceased.
• Establish identification of deceased persons; locate and notify relatives.
• Gather evidence and interview witnesses to establish circumstances of death and responsibility.
• Cooperate with law enforcement agencies to obtain evidence in violent deaths.
• Appear as a witness in court.
• Serve subpoenas, summon jurors and witnesses; notify interested parties as to time and place of inquests.
• Prepare data to assist forensic pathologist in autopsies.
• Prepare reports of medicolegal investigations and other official activities; maintain required records.
• May do inventory, assess value of, and store personal effects; prepare them for disposal by auction or bid; may assist in auction sale and distribution of personal property in accordance with court orders.
• Investigate estates of deceased persons for the purpose of inventory and protection of assets.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

About The County

The Opportunity

San Mateo County Sustainability Department is seeking a creative and highly analytical individual for the position of Administrative Services Manager I (ASM) to oversee the Department’s administrative functions. The ASM will provide fiscal, procurement and grants oversight; coordinate a variety of administrative support functions within the department; assist in the development, implementation and interpretation of administrative policies and procedures; and train and supervise assigned personnel.

This Administrative Services Manager I (ASM) is a hands-on, multi-faceted role that is broad in scope but extremely detailed and technical in nature. The ASM is a supervisory management position responsible for overseeing and coordinating all or most of the administrative support functions within the department including finance, budget, administration, personnel management, purchasing, contract administration, clerical support, management analysis, research, program evaluation and/or other related functions.

The ASM will also support the department in the development and overall management of a Grant Program for identification, pursuit, and implementation of federal, state, and philanthropic grants and funding focused on sustainability programs and projects. This includes developing and supporting systems to manage the entire grants lifecycle, managing and/or guiding analyst and program level staff in identifying opportunities, developing concept papers and proposals, submitting grant applications, project implementation, and grant closeout. The ASM will receive direction from the Executive Leadership team and exercise direct and indirect leadership over professional, technical and/or clerical team members.

The ideal candidate for this position will have or be:

• Knowledge of public financial administration, budgeting, and project accounting. Able to manage the entire budget cycle from planning and developing to monitoring, analyzing, reporting, and forecasting.
• Knowledge of and experience with the County's budget, accounting, auditing, and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of relevant climate mitigation, energy efficiency, climate resilience, stormwater management, waste reduction and management programs and initiatives.
• Possession of great leadership skills and can mentor, inspire, and motivate staff.
• Proficiency in using accounting, financial, budgeting, data, analytical, and/or project management software including Excel and other information systems (such as the County's OFAS, Sherpa, Socrata, Workday, Asana).

HR Analyst: Sarah Huynh (06102026) (D045 - Administrative Services Manager I)

Under the supervision and general direction of the District Engineer, this student engineering position  performs a variety of basic technical civil engineering duties such as mapping, data entry, review of residential and commercial developments, and supporting capital projects. Responsibilities include assisting the Associate Engineer with project management, plan review, fee calculations, permit issuance, maintaining engineering records, conducting field surveys, site inspections, and data analysis. Responsibilities also include assisting the Engineering Technician in GIS and AutoCAD related projects as needed.

Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Engineering Intern is a part-time hourly/non-exempt position that performs varied tasks and assists the Engineering Team with applied research, inspections, and administrative support functions as part of the learning experience in conjunction with educational coursework leading to an advanced degree in Engineering.

The Department of Public Works is seeking experienced individuals for the position of Road Equipment Supervisor. 

The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years' of increasing responsible experience overseeing a crew involved in the operation of heavy equipment in road construction and maintenance activities, as well as experience in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and participating in projects involving heavy equipment in construction and maintenance of roadways, bridges, channels, landscape areas, and storm drains and sewers. Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 Four years of experience in the operation of rollers, bulldozers, backhoes, mowers and graders.
 
Knowledge of:

• Supervisory principles and practices, including work planning, scheduling, employee training and evaluation.

Position Summary

Under general direction from the Director of Planning, manages projects, leads and supervises staff and performs difficult and complex transit planning studies, investigations and analyses. Supports the three elements of the department work program: Short-Range and Service Planning, Long-Range Strategic Planning, and Facilities Planning. Develops various transit and traffic analyses, plans, and projects which include complying with requirements of Title VI and ADA. Develops environmental compliance documents in support of CEQA and/or NEPA approvals. Develops, executes, analyzes and summarizes complex planning projects or manages consultant efforts to accomplish such projects. Coordinates the District’s data using sources from, Golden Gate Bridge Traffic and Toll Revenue Collection System and data from outside the District, and will plan for new data resources to be integrated into the District’s systems as they become available on-line. Provides District data regarding bridge, road and transit facilities, traffic data and performance, transit ridership and performance, and toll and parking policies to outside and partner agencies. 

Makes regular personal contact with District staff to interpret planning policy and interacts with outside public works and transit partner agency representatives to exchange planning and conceptual design information.  Regularly works with the public and other agencies to develop and implement District programs. Receives general assignments or objectives from the Director of Planning, and performs related duties as required or assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

• Develops environmental compliance documents in support of CEQA and/or NEPA approvals

• Researches, compiles, analyzes and interprets complex technical, demographic, economic, financial and other statistical data for the development of various roadway and transit facility plans and projects such as the District's transit service plan, transit capital improvement program, proposed bridge tolls  or parking facilities.
• Monitors and evaluates transit service performance, bridge traffic patterns, parking occupancy and trends, and transit service patronage, including the use of computer techniques or models where appropriate
• Prepares, or supervises preparation of, routine evaluations of the efficiency and effectiveness of bus on-street operations, major transit facilities and bus stops.  Recommends specific improvements based on these evaluations
• Assists in the preparation of the District's Short-Range Transit Plan and other federal and state required reports, including the organization of meetings between various staff providing input to these reports on an as-needed basis
• Leads teams of planning and other staff working on planning projects.  Develops project staffing requirements and timelines
• Prepares official recommendations and informational reports for consideration by the general public, the District's Board of Directors, technical staff of the District or other agencies and other groups on technical and planning subjects. Prepares or assists with verbal presentations to staff groups, public groups, and the boards of local municipalities and advises District personnel on matters related to interactions with these groups
• Supports and coordinates staff responsibilities with regard to monthly meetings of the District’s Service Review Committee and other internal and external coordination meetings as directed
• Acts, when directed, as liaison between the District and other agencies on planning matters by reviewing outside reports, attending meetings, drafting correspondence and providing technical information to public agencies and other transit groups.  Communicates with the general public on technical matters related to facility planning and District data
• Supervises or provides staff support and coordination to certain advisory groups to the District, including the District’s three Passenger Advisory Committees (Bus Passengers Advisory Committee, Ferry Passengers Advisory Committee, and Advisory Committee on Accessibility), as appropriate when specific questions related to bus, ferry, or bridge traffic operations or facilities need a response.
• Prepares scopes of work for planning projects to be undertaken by consultants; coordinates the process of consultant selection; provides technical liaison with consultants and coordinates contract administration
• May assist District Engineering Department with development of capital projects related to transportation and traffic support facilities
• Represents Director of Planning in their absence at various District meetings, meetings with other public agencies, and with the Planning Department

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Supervising Vessel Master, this position is responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel in accordance with Division policy and the requirements of law.  Responsible for the start-up and shut down of engines and generators plus the in-service care and maintenance of machinery and auxiliaries.   Supervises crew in general upkeep and cleanliness of vessel when in-service crew is aboard and performs other related duties as required by management policy.

San Mateo County Health is seeking well-qualified individual for the position of Medical Office Specialist-Behavioral Health & Recovery Services – Extra Help.

There is currently one extra help part time (20-hours per week) vacancy in the Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Division. This position is located in Belmont, CA, but may travel/drive throughout the County to perform duties of the job.

The Medical Office Specialist (MOS) will be involved in the organization and development of workflows for the Access Utilization Management (UM) Team. The Medical Office Specialist will oversee and perform a variety of complex medical office administrative tasks that correspond to the compliance mandates of Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS); perform difficult, complex, technical or specialized medical office support work, which may require the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills, and a knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and compliance standards; and may train others in work procedures or direct the work of others on a project or relief basis.

Access Utilization Management (UM) MOS Position
Support outpatient utilization management; track timelines, requests, and provide monthly reports on completed tasks; help with formatting spreadsheets, creating PDF referral forms, and completing complex spreadsheet analysis in Excel; write formal letters and input data from the electronic medical record (EMR) database; verify insurance eligibility; input demographic and insurance eligibility in EMR database, Avatar; oversee and perform a variety of complex administrative tasks that correspond to the compliance mandates of DHCS and CMS; and process in or out of county requests using knowledge of specialized out of county activities.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos and cares for carpets and rugs.
• Dusts and polishes woodwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, walls and other fixtures.
