THE POSITIONS

The following positions are flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II or Lead Librarian level, depending on the candidate’s experience. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

• Youth Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: A dynamic, energetic, team-oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to coordinate the library’s outreach and deliver innovative programs and services for children and families at the Downtown Library and throughout the community.
• Teen Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: A dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to deliver innovative programs and services for teens with diverse backgrounds and abilities and to coordinate the library’s outreach to middle/high schools and throughout the community. 
• Adult Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: Seeking full-time Librarians (38-hours per week) with expertise in cataloging, collection development, programming for adults, outreach and exceptional customer service.

• Neighborhood Services  - Librarian I/II:  This position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II level, depending on the candidate’s experience.  A dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian I/II to deliver innovative services and programs for children, families and teens, at the family friendly Redwood  Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library. 

These positions will require work during the day, evenings and weekends. Example of Job Duties

• Advise and assist library customers; demonstrate the use of library catalogs and other library resources; refer customers to other appropriate agencies as needed.
• Provide customer service experience that strives for the highest level of satisfaction, by applying and using the Redwood City Public Library Active Customer Service Model.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services in such areas as youth, adult, and others; recommend program and procedure changes.
• Participate in library publicity and public relations activities; prepare exhibits for publicity.
• Guide customers to books or other Library materials to further their reading interest.
• Organize and maintain a variety of library materials.
• Classify and catalog library materials.
• Maintain and update library databases.
• Review appropriate sources and select materials for acquisition and/or deselection, as appropriate.

The Position:

The Senior Inspector is a supervisory classification responsible for performing the more complex building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections and supervising and coordinating the work of less experienced inspectors and support staff. Depending on the area of expertise, each Senior Inspector may be assigned to one or more of the following Programs or specialties: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Permit Center, and Code Enforcement. An incumbent in this classification is expected to perform as an expert and exercises considerable independent judgment in the performance of duties. This classification is distinguished from the Inspection Manager in that the latter is a management classification responsible for planning, directing, coordinating field inspections and technology projects of the Building Inspection Division in the Planning and Inspection.

• Certified Access Specialist (CASp) certification is desirable.
• Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience that includes supervising building inspectors.

Licenses/Certificates

The Department

The City of Sunnyvale is looking for an Applications Analyst II to join the Information Technology Department (ITD). DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification provides support to the City’s diverse range of recreation and community service programs.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is a full supervisory classification that has broader responsibility for a wider range of programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and oversees assigned staff, contractors, and volunteers.

• Plans, coordinates, evaluates, organizes, and implements diversified recreation services and special events of assigned area(s).

Experience:

One year of experience in recreation and community services.

Experience coordinating and facilitating programs and special events is desirable.

Training:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, human services or a closely related field.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Must possess American Red Cross First Aid certificate and CPR Adult, Child, and Infant CPR within six months of appointment.

When assigned to Aquatics, must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid and CPR at time of appointment. Title 22 Certification required within one year of appointment.

Department

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into several divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Read Santa Clara, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

Position

Read Santa Clara, the adult and family literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library, has offered English as a Second Language (ESL) services since 2023, as part of a state grant project. The ESL Program Assistant provides 1:1 and small group tutoring for limited English-speaking adults to strengthen their basic English speaking and listening skills and help achieve their goals. This position works with and reports to the ESL Program Specialist and Literacy Program Supervisor. This position is responsible for supporting literacy volunteers, assessing adult learners’ literacy needs, and documenting program data for grant reporting.  The ideal candidate has a passion for serving adults with limited English language skills from historically underserved communities.

This is a grant funded position for 15 hours a week till June 30, 2026. The position’s continuation beyond this date is subject to the availability of grant funds.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is recruiting a Deputy Fire Chief. This position performs responsible management, technical, personnel, budget and administrative work. Typical duties will include planning, directing, supervising and participating in the activities of one or more major divisions in the Fire Department. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, this position will directly supervise all Battalion Chiefs, Fire Marshal, Emergency Preparedness Outreach Coordinator and fire prevention personnel including sworn and non-sworn professional, technical and support personnel. The Deputy Chief may represent the San Carlos Fire Department as the primary liaison, under direction of the Fire Chief. The Deputy Chief will take command of the Departments in the absence of the Fire Chief, and performs related work as required.

The Public Works Department is responsible for operating, maintaining, and improving the City’s public infrastructure – streets, water, storm, public buildings, the City’s fleet, trees, parks, and traffic signals. The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services.

The Position:

This is a paraprofessional supervisory position in the classified service. Positions in this class are responsible for the supervision and direction of a work unit comprised of paraprofessional, clerical and/or Library Page staff. This recruitment is to fill a position at the Northside Branch Library. The person in the position will work closely with the Northside Library Program Coordinator in maintaining and improving day to day operations, customer service, effective material circulation and distribution, scheduling staff and volunteers, and may act as the back-up person in charge.  May also develop and support branch programming with librarians. This person should have strong communication skills, a team mindset and community-based outlook.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Completion of sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units from a college or university.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years’ experience in customer or public service; paraprofessional library work; communication or digital communication; library technical services that may include ordering, procurement, cataloging, maintaining financial records and vendor engagement; community outreach or bookmobile operation. Of the required experience one (1) year shall include supervising the work of others or as a project leader AND one (1) year of experience must involve customer or public service or paraprofessional library work.

Acceptable Substitution:

• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units up to two (2) years.

• Completion of an Associate of Arts degree in Library Technology may substitute for the required education, plus one (1) year of the required experience. This experience shall not be substituted for the one (1) year of experience supervising the work of others or as a project leader OR one (1) year of experience involving customer or public service or paraprofessional library work.

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications:

Two (2) years or more of customer service or public library experience

Other Requirements: 

• Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• May be required to work evenings and weekends.
