ABOUT THE POSITION

The Gilroy Police Department is seeking a motivated and community-minded undergraduate Police Administration Intern interested in gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic law enforcement environment. This internship offers the opportunity to work alongside sworn officers and professional staff while supporting public safety initiatives that benefit the Gilroy community.

The intern will assist multiple divisions within the department by providing clerical and administrative support related to crime analysis, youth task force and gang prevention initiatives, public safety communications, and community outreach programs. Responsibilities may also include assisting with special projects, handling confidential information, and supporting efforts that enhance departmental operations.

The intern will also participate in community outreach efforts and local events, helping strengthen connections between the department and the community.

The Police Administration Intern will work under the guidance of a Management Analyst, gaining valuable mentorship and professional experience while supporting the needs of various units within the department. This internship provides meaningful development for students interested in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or public service careers.

The Department: 

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library has recently finalized and is in the ongoing process of implementing its new Strategic and Facilities Master Plans that will support the direction of future library services.

 

The Position: 

This is an entry-level, as-needed position, requiring no previous training or experience.  After training, a Library Page is assigned routine tasks and duties, and works under direct supervision. Duties include manual work in connection with the use and maintenance of library resources such as checking in and shelving library materials and assisting with meeting room setup. This position may also assist in supporting library programs and services, as well as helping to create a welcoming environment at the library.   

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being able to work independently. Strong communication skills, a commitment to excellent customer service, comfort with basic technology, and adaptability in a fast-paced public service environment are essential. Candidate should be someone who is approachable, dependable, and open to working in varied library locations. This recruitment is to fill multiple positions at Central Park and Northside Branch libraries.

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

• Operates various equipment involved in the maintenance of golf courses.
• Operates a light tractor with gang or sickle mower attachment, small roller or comparable attachment.
• Operates light equipment such as mowers, aerators, spray rigs, utility vehicles, backhoes, front-end loaders and dump trucks.
• Prunes small trees and shrubs
• Edges ground cover.
• Repairs irrigation, installs plant material, performs landscape construction duties.

General:

• Operates various equipment involved in the maintenance of street, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water distribution system, parks, street trees, or golf course.
• Operates equipment such as air compressors, pneumatic hammers, power activated hammers, chain saws, concrete saws, pipe cutters, sprayers, compactors, forklifts, painting and spraying equipment and rollers.
• Operates power tools such as air compressors, jack hammers, wet tapping machines and painting and spraying equipment;
• Loads, unloads and operates pick-ups and trucks to transport maintenance supplies and materials.
• Places traffic control flags, signs and cones to direct traffic around work sites; may direct traffic.
• Uses general carpentry and mechanical hand tools such as brooms, rakes, shovels, ladders, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, saws, drills and wrenches.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair of hand and power tools.
• Tactfully responds to questions and comments from the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when operating assigned equipment. Acute hearing is required in both the field and the office. The ability to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 70 pounds, such as a jackhammer, is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, heat, and cold. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust chemicals, biohazard materials and air contaminants. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, work in confined spaces, drive motorized vehicles and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

The base salary for this classification includes pay for potentially hazardous duties as listed in the essential job functions.

Knowledge and Abilities

• The basic techniques, equipment and materials used in the maintenance of water systems, sewers and/or streets, as required by the program to which assigned.

• The proper use and care of common hand tools.
• Work practices governing the maintenance and construction of municipal facilities such as streets, sewers, water lines, golf courses, and landscaped areas;

THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Executive Director, the Strategic Initiatives Director plans, develops, and leads high-priority organizational initiatives that advance Tri-City’s strategic goals and system transformation efforts. The position is responsible for designing and implementing complex, cross-departmental projects that expand services, strengthen community partnerships, and secure sustainable funding opportunities. The ideal candidate for Plan Check Engineer with our Office of Building Safety will possess strong technical background in structural engineering and/or building life safety in a wide range of residential and commercial projects.  This candidate will be proactive, customer service-oriented, and a team player and demonstrates effective communication skills.  Analytical skills, initiative, independent judgment, along with strong time management and attention to detail, are key attributes for success in this role.
