The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department seeks qualified individuals with the passion and desire to work with youth campers as a summer Camp Counselor (Recreation Leader) in the Parks and Recreation Department.   This position takes direction from the Camp Director and Camp Coordinator (Recreation Program Specialist) and reports to the City's full-time Recreation Coordinator.

INTERVIEWS:  In-person group interviews will occur on Monday, April 13 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm OR Wednesday, April 15 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.  Please be prepared to attend one of these pre-set interview times.

MANDATORY TRAINING:  Must be available for paid training on Saturday, May 30, 2026

SUMMER CAMP SEASON:  Must be available for summer camp season June 1 - August 7, 2026

WORK HOURS:  Work hours vary depending on the number of staff and youth participants.  Approximate work hours are Monday through Friday 8:45 am to 4:00 pm and Extended Care from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Incumbents of the position will provide their own transportation to program site(s). 

Essential Duties:

Camp Counselors (Recreation Leaders) are assigned to the summer day camp programs working with children ages 3 1/2 to 12 years old.  They assist, plan, organize and lead the physical, recreational and social activities of assigned recreation programs under direction of the Camp Director (Recreation Program Specialist) and the Recreation Coordinator.  

• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the camp environment every day.
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers at all times.
• Plan and lead arts, crafts, games and sports according to the theme of the week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers by modeling positive behavior at all times.
• Use positive discipline with campers and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Effectively collaborate with fellow camp staffers and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

All City of Orinda employees are expected to uphold and exhibit the City’s core values including serving the public, being respectful and accountable, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating responsibility.

Education: Must have completed at least ninth (9) grade by the start of camp.  Coursework in recreation, sports, administration, human development, education or related field is preferred.  

Experience: Recreation, athletics and/or education experience is desirable.  Experience teaching and/or working with children and youth age twelve (12) and under is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED training and/or certification are required prior to the first day of camp.  There will be a CPR, First Aid and AED training on the May 30, 2026 Training Day.

Special Requirements:    Appointments to this position are contingent upon:

• A valid work permit issued from school (if under age 18 and have not graduated from high school or received a State Certificate of Proficiency).
• A post offer, pre-employment live scan criminal history check (over 18 years), drug screen, physical and TB Test required.  Please note that if under 18 some processes may require legal guardian consent.

The City of Newark is seeking an energetic and committed Associate Civil Engineer to perform professional civil engineering work related to the planning, review, design, construction, inspection, and coordination of a variety of public works projects. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Meet and confer with developers, contractors, engineers and the general public relative to city policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Attend Development Review Committee meetings on designated entitlement projects and present and coordinate Engineering issues with other City departments.
• Recommend and prepare conditions of approval for Planning entitlement projects.
• Review private and public development improvement plans and subdivision maps for compliance with state and local codes, regulations and standards, and compliance with the requirements of project approval.
• Review development encroachment permits, building permits, grading and sitework permits and other permit applications, including technical reports and documents such as hydrology and hydraulic reports, stormwater management reports, and geotechnical reports.
• Review legal property descriptions, ordinances, assessment plans and other written materials.

• Makes engineering calculations, completes design drawings, makes and revises maps, charts and diagrams.

• Assist Public Works Inspectors in resolving construction issues.

• Perform field inspections of various municipal construction projects, in progress and upon completion.

• Respond to applicants, contractors, consulting engineers regarding technical information and project related issues; assist and coordinate project resolutions with applicant’s team and City team.
• Coordinate projects with various agencies, such as Caltrans, Union Sanitary District (USD), Alameda County Water District (ACWD), and Alameda County Flood Control District (ACFCD)

• Perform work in accordance with local, State, and Federal standards and regulations

• Attend Alameda County Cleanwater Program committee meetings.

• Schedule and track progress of land development projects.

• Prepare staff reports, as well as presentations for City Council, and other legislative bodies; respond to the public and other inquiries orally and in writing.

• Develop Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and participate with other department staff in the selection of consulting engineers.

• Serve as Project Engineer on Public Works capital improvement projects and transportation engineering tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. 
• Three (3) years of civil engineering experience, including one year of lead responsibility. 
• Registered as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills. 

Salary & Benefits

• Salary: $6,681 - $8,612 per month.
• Health/Medical Benefit: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure and provides quality, cost-effective, timely services to the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. DPW is responsible for a wide variety of programs throughout the City which include implementation of solid waste and urban run-off pollution prevention programs, design, construction management, inspection and maintenance of City streets, bridges, storm drain systems, traffic signal systems, building facilities, fleet, street trees, landscaping and the closed landfill. The Mechanical Maintenance Position is in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Position: 

The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is a journey level technical classification. This classification operates, lubricates, cleans, adjusts, and makes repairs to heating, ventilating, refrigeration, emergency generators, solar systems, and other stationary building equipment, and installs and troubleshoots electrical systems up to 480 volts. The Mechanical Maintenance Worker is distinguished from the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman/Forewoman in that the latter is a supervisory position responsible for supervising Mechanical Maintenance Workers and Utility Workers in the maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment found in City buildings.

The Asset Management Specialist performs a variety of specialized technical work in support of the Housing Authority’s asset management and property operations functions. Conducts operational monitoring and asset management analysis by supporting portfolio performance tracking, capital project planning, compliance reporting, and financial review. Experience with LIHTC or HUD compliance, property management accounting and/or asset management, and Yardi software are desirable.
