The City of Foster City is actively seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a Building Services Assistant. In this role, you will provide physical set-up arrangements for classes, meetings, activities for public and private functions in the community buildings; assure security of buildings; and providing public information about recreation activities. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: 

• Education: Completion of the tenth grade or equivalent.
• Experience: Providing public services, information or directions; or performing group function arrangements or coordination is desirable.

Special Requirements
Ability to lift and move chairs, tables and equipment up to 40 lbs.; work under minimal direct supervision; work flexible hours; remain calm and use good judgement in difficult and emergency situations; provide courteous public service; drive a car/van to other city facilities.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training, and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview.

Under general supervision, the Plan Checker performs professional work in checking plans, calculations, specifications, technical reports, and other submittal documents for compliance with state and local building codes, ordinances, regulations and energy standards; receives and checks plans and designs new and remodeled commercial, industrial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance; assists inspectors, contractors, design professionals, and the public regarding construction requirements; performs related work as required.

 

Examples of typical job functions:

• Checks for compliance with requirements of applicable state and local codes and ordinances relating to architecture, and plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and energy systems.
• Uses digital plan review or other prescribed method to assist in the review of building plans and specifications and permit tracking software during the building permit process.
• Drafts plan review comments relative to code requirements in a matter that is technically sufficient for the professional and fundamentally understandable by the owner or builder.
• Provides expedited plan check services at the customer counter.
• Assists with and participates in the meetings between design professional, owners, builders, and others to explain, clarify and/or discuss comments on the submitted projects.
• Works with other state and county departments to ensure a complete and accurate plan review.
• Identifies project data necessary for permit processing such as project valuations type of construction, use, quantity, building size and provides that information in an easily understandable format to permit processing staff.
• Communicates with field inspectors, permit technicians and other departments to gain additional knowledge on projects that might affect the permit process to coordinate project if needed.
• Prepares plan review reports, comment sheets, and correspondence noting plan deficiencies and building code enforcement issues; maintains records of plan checking activities.
• Refers to a variety of manuals, documents and books including California Building Standards Code and reference documents and ICC Research Reports.
• Responds to public inquiries over the telephone, email or at the counter concerning questions regarding permit processing, building, or other construction-related questions; assists applicants in achieving compliance with various codes and regulations.
• Attends meetings to review and discuss plans, documents, and code requirements; performs field reviews as necessary.
• Conduct plan checks on commercial and residential projects.
• Maintains accurate records, reports, and tracks ongoing activities and outcomes.

POSITION

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of one year of dispatch work; two years general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills. 

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

This is a one-year, limited-term assignment, with the possibility of extension based on budget, departmental needs and approval. The position will require a minimum of 24.5 hours and up to a maximum of 39.5 hours per week. The work schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift schedules are reviewed every four months and are subject to change.

SELECTION PROCESS

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.

THE POSITION:

This is a division head management position at the Hayward Executive Airport, reporting to the Airport Manager. The incumbent is responsible for the management of the business and accounting functions at the airport and provides second-line supervision and direction of staff within the Airport Division. This position is distinguished from the Airport Operations Supervisor classification which is responsible for the direct supervision of staff performance of Airside and Landside operations and maintenance tasks at the airport. Under general direction, the Airport Business Supervisor, oversees the airport business function including budget preparation, the real property program, tenant compliance with contract provisions, collections, preparation of grant applications, and other administrative duties.

What you will do:

Assist the Airport Manager with the negotiation of commercial lease agreements.

Prepare draft leases at the request of the Airport Manager.

Monitor account receivables and collect past due amounts.
 
Prepare annual business permits and monitor tenant compliance.

Prepare Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Caltrans grant applications and related documents.
 
Monitor and submit required FAA reports for the DBE program.
 
Performs related work as necessary.

Receive immediate supervision from higher level supervisory or management staff and from training staff at a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

             

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Attend a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system including knowledge of laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid and physical fitness.

What You’ll Do

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Mechanic I/II performs semi‑skilled and skilled work in the installation and repair of pumps, motors, chain drives, valves and related equipment and to do related work as required.  The WWTP Mechanic I is the entry level class in the Plant Mechanic series.  Positions in this class normally perform beginning level mechanical repair and maintenance work on a wide variety of wastewater quality control plant systems and equipment. Under this class series concept, positions assigned to the class of Plant Mechanic II may reasonably be filled at the Plant Mechanic I level.  The WWTP Mechanic II is the journey level class in the Plant Mechanic series. Positions assigned to this class are flexibly staffed and are expected to perform the most skilled repair and maintenance work and have a thorough knowledge of the operational characteristics, maintenance and repair methods and techniques and most typical system difficulties for the full range of equipment and operational systems in the plant. All positions assigned to this class require the ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative. Plant Mechanics II may also be expected to assist in the supervision of less experienced personnel.

 

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Operate machines and tools in repairing defective parts of pumps, compressors, generators, motors, lift stations, boilers and related mechanical equipment.

• Maintain accurate mechanical maintenance records.

• Install, repair, replace, and modify pumps, controllers, bearings, seals, hydraulic pipes, timing devices and assist in installing telemetering electrical equipment.

• Use a variety of power hand tools, cutting and welding equipment and electrical test equipment. Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with work flow processes.

• Perform preventive maintenance on wastewater treatment plant mechanical and electrical equipment. Evaluate equipment performance and identify problem areas.

• Maintain stock inventory and adequate supply of replacement parts.

• Plant mechanics may be required to respond to emergency situations after normal working hours and be subject to serve on emergency stand-by alert and call out status on a rotational basis, including participation in rotating stand-by duties.

• Analyze or create documents, such as blueprints, markings, surveys, etc. to problem solve the most effective approach to a task.

• Verify the work of others for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance.

• Formulate solutions to problems with equipment or operations, including logistics, operations, and processes.

• Draft operating procedures.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic I/II receives supervision from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Superintendent or Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic III as directed technical or functional supervision may be provided by higher level treatment plant maintenance personnel.  Assignments may require indirect supervision of less experienced plant maintenance personnel.

THE DEPARTMENT 

The Colma Police Department is made up of 28 employees who take great pride in providing excellent police service to the community. Among police, dispatch and detective duties, the department also has an Executive Assistant, Motorcycle Officer, Bicycle Patrol Officers, members attached to the Daly City/North County SWAT team, Tactical Dispatchers, Community Service Officer and a Reserve Police Officer Program.

THE POSITION

The current opening is for a per diem position and is under the direction of the Police Dispatcher/Records Supervisor.  The Police Dispatcher/Clerk is a non-sworn technical and complex clerical support classification associated with law enforcement support services assigned in the Town Police Department.  Police Dispatcher/Clerks learn and perform a variety of responsible records management, communications and dispatching duties for emergency and non-emergency calls for service. 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Dispatches police officers to calls for service
• Provides assistance, information and directions to non-emergency callers including but not limited to police, fire, paramedic, animal control and public utilities calls for service, forwards non-emergency calls to proper personnel or departments
• Maintains awareness of field unit activities; communicates with field units through radio in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations; maintains status and location of units on patrol
• Retrieves information from State and National computer networks regarding wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other related information
• Enters call information into computer systems; logs and completes call forms, maintains records of calls for service and self-initiated officer activities
• Assists the public at the front counter; provides information and responds to general inquiries
• Performs other related duties as assigned
